TPS Questions for my RX
Vanislru replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you have a vac guage? a good vac on ea82t is around -20psi can't rmember what that is in Hg's. What sort of condition is your header in? They have a habit of cracking and breaking right underneath the flange the turbo sits on. Hard to listen for unless it's a compete break, but it really screws your performance off the line up to about 3-4000rpm. -
I commute with my interco Trxus tires, and 4x4 the piss out of em too. They are very quiet onroad and rule offroad. I mostly do highway commutes at 70-85mph/110-150kmh. If you were interested in SS's then these might be the ticket for you, a very capable offroad tire and good tread life onroad too.

My 86 can do better than 90mph uphill with 29's:burnout:.Nice looking car! all that snow on the background hills has me so jealous we haven't had a bad snow year like this in 15 years

Thanks for that info. I'm going to purchase some of thes cause I've striped the threads out of a few lugnuts on my 6 bolt hubs.

EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!

Sounds TPS related -
I think a 6" kit would be allrigh as mentioned tho larger than 30" tires screw gearing pretty bad. I have close to 6" of lift[ 4 inch lift kit with 2" of rubber spacers in the strut and shock springs] while I've not had issues with clearance yet more would be better. I measured a total gain of 5.125" lift in the front and 5.5" in the back, and I think the car would look good with even more clearance between the fender and the tires. I have no desire for larger tires or a tcase, with the bit of suspension lift I have clearance is awesome and 29's are plenty big wnough for me.

How wide is too wide (tire question)?
Vanislru replied to Bratenstein's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If they have close to stock backspacing then 9.5" will be tight, ideally I think you want less backspacing than stock. -
This is my second lifted ru, I had a 2" rubber puck strut/shock lift on a previous car and this one before going to 4". I'd amke the pic larger but I'm still struggling with resizing issue's.

Oh man! That is going to be sooo fast, any brake mods or suspension:brow:?

Very nice guy, looking forward to more pics and any details you want to give us. I used to have a few old westie's and 1 split window van with the reduction hub, always dreamed of a turboed watercooled VW[mostly of a bus tho].

That's an Australian site and their reg's are more stringent for modifications than the US or Canuckstan.

how much power the air conditione takes?
Vanislru replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I tore mine out cause I don't need it, and it does limit the air reaching your rad a bit. As for power I'd guess about a 1-3hp max, that's only about 2000 watts of cooling which sounds close I think. [edit] Looks like I didn't read the without it running part:o -
EA82 3AT to 5Spd D/R Qs

Keep the connector to the auto shifter linkage, alot of people short between the wires on the harness so that it thinks it's in park. This is a waste of time IMO, take apart the shifter so the electrical switch is free of it and plug it back into the connector. Tape it in the park position[check the dash display to be sure] and then tuck it under the console in front of the manual shifter and you're good to go. 5 mins tops no wire splicing metering etc. I've done three of these swaps now and this makes things quick. -
Those results aren't too bad, I'd run it till you really need a teardown. On my rallywagon[not in sig] I pulled it apart after many abusive miles to sort out a comp. prob and found the rings all gummed up, I cleaned em threw the motor back in and it still runs tight after 20k. As for the CTS make sure that the contacts in the connector are clean, most often that's the problem. If you only developed 90psi after several cranks then I'd be thinking about a ring job/reseal.

What about the offset/backspacing of your rims?

something wicked this way comes caution for dialup get a snack

That's foing to be sweet I can't wait to find out how this mod performs, I'm thinking a torque curve that starts early, climbs hard and then stays nice and progressive HHhhmmm . -
What ski season, I normally tour the interior but having a daughter this Dec messed with all that so I've mostly stayed on the Island and the mountain bike this year. Good wrenching whether not that it matters to me anymore cause I have a large shop:banana: now lol. Let us know how things go with your Sube, sounds like you have a good chance of making 500k I'm at 394k right now with gobs of power and good fuel economy whoooooot.
