  1. your car looks sooo good, that scoop goes well with the rx's lines, very nice.
  2. -20'ish, oh man we got a bit to go then, it's not running all that hot either, if you downshift coming into a corner hot then it's got lots of snot, but if you come into the same corner but on the brakes with no hard downshift it drives like crap with sluggish rythmic acceleration. I'm going to check the disty but I think we have vac issues somewhere else.
  3. On my one car it holds at about 18 -psi at 900rpm idle on my friends car it's about 12-13ish at the same rpms at idle, this is after we "fixed" the vac leak. The intake gasket on pas. side was toast but it seems that we still have another leak?
  4. I think this is it too. Stick with the turbo. a bit more time spent finding the root of the problem might be better than the swapping motors/trannie.
  5. 3, empty water from disty when you're trying to revive? Nice footage, please keep'em coming.
  6. Funny you said that, it's got one tire mounted right now and without the lift in it that sides so far off the ground that the doors don't want to close all that well! I'm just waiting to here back from Patrick on the shipping/ETA of the kits , the wait with the car off the road has been good it's given me time to fix all the nagging little issues and do the fender flares too.
  7. Has anyone been to Nelson BC home of Whitewater ski area, any Montana people? In this little ski town if you see a car it's mostly likely an Ea82 4x4 wagon or a 4x4 Tercel wagon. On the main strip I counted 13 on my way from the headshop to the hostel, about 4 blocks, they're everywhere! I live in the Pac. NW so I see alot of ea82 wagons but this place was unreal. Thinking maybe a JY yard run there next roadtrip might be a good idea.
  8. I'd call and confirm that the setup you're going to run will all jive, I too was looking at the garrett setup and was going to run it as well but they wanted more money for the custom pipes that were needed. Maybe they pitched it to you after I turned it down? I'm ataying with the stock turbo for lower RPM torque cause I'm running 29" tires otherwise I might have gone with a larger flow turbo for better top end.
  9. Found 5 older toy 6 bolts with 3.5" backspacing chrome steelies, I wanted alloys but had little luck. Finding the right back spacing is hard there's alot of good 6 bolt rims out there but I think anything over 4" backspacing is a no go if you are running 10.5" wide tires. Will mount and post pics tomorrow morn.
  10. My o2 sensor was grounding out right were the wire goes into it, lots of that green electrolysis stuff around it. Car runs much better meow that it's fixed.
  11. There are a few but the one I did is nothing serious and only works on the flapper maf [86 and under] cars, you pop the little black square off the top and increase the spring tension a little bit, this only helps keep things cooler when you're not boosting and it's at the cost of fuel economy and doesn't help with the underfueling at high boost issues. Best done with an EGT gauge so you can see at what point the adjustment does something. For me the loss of a bit of fuel economy is worth knowing as I cruise around things are bit cooler. End HJ
  12. Most turbo's paired up with the TWE pipes will have a wastegate on them, only the UP is set up for the TDO4's, the DP is setup for the stock turbo's. What kind of turbo are you concerned about, from what I've read most turbo's that you'd run on our cars will have an integral wastegate. With the stock turbo, TWE pipes, nice effecient IC, a little more fuel [MAF mod], cold air intake with high flow filter, good plugs/coil combo, and a proper tuning my car pulls like crazy. I can't even hit 1/2 throttle in 1,2, or 3 unless i'm in 4wd or I break loose and that's with hella sticky ice tires on dry pavement. I won't drop any WRX's but with the stock turbo lag is next to nil and the torque down low is unreal. DSCF0004.JPGDSCF0007.JPG
  13. $960 CDN for 5, that's 14.5 % taxes,$ 40 tire tax/eco fee [bS fee goes straight to general revenue] and $40 mounting/balancing included. So before taxes, fees, service charges these tires were bsically free lol. They are supposed to have excellent tread life according to coke dealin guy with the 44's. When I get the lift kit in I'll take it out on the nastiest muddy trails around here, after watching the hatch patrol vids I'd say ours are about the same it's all Pacific NW type terrain, and then into the snow, and then up some crazy volcano rock, and then on some beach in the sand, and then... Anyways I'll write these tires up for Zap's tire sticky cause I know how choked some people get with the repetitive que's and all:rolleyes:. You know when I was on the old board several years ago I never noticed the impatience that seems to be out there now. I don't get it, ah well nothing new there.
  14. Early gen 6 spoke toys, that sounds about right, 3.5" backspacing will be perfect. That means I'll have another 3 " of wheel base, yes! My brothers redneck logger friends LOVE these tires and now the subie too:rolleyes:.
  15. Once I've got a bit of time I'd like to write up what I've found out, so far it's been easy going I just didn't pay enough attention to the offset/backspacing. It sounds like the 4" lift kit is 1-2 weeks away anyhow so at least I'm not being held up, yet. These rims are off a late 90's toyota tacoma the backspacing was a 1/2" less than stock subes. Wouldn't be a problem with 9.5 " tires with a normal widewall, these tires at 10.5 with sidewall treads are just too much. I'm off to the JY tommorow morn. I know earlier toy rims are more likely to fit and might look at some chevy's too. At least now I know what doesn't work.
  16. Yeah I thought the backspacing wasn't too bad, I might have to look at some 4runner rims I think they have more offset less backspacing. Kal tire said they'd swap over the tires for cheap so it's off to the wreckers again.
  17. "shady" shops are best when removing a cat, preferably someplace out of the way and not busy. I paid $250 cdn and that included a custom 2" DP the guy made using my old flange. For a simple extension of your y pipe I would not spend anyting more than $100- 150 US muffler included[ cheap cherry bomb ]... what ever you get I highly reccomend a 3" or 4" tailpipe being tacked on the back of the muffler, the rich exhaust note the larger size pipe gives you is awesome!
  18. I have a TWE header and DP, DP is 2.5" and I ran 2.5" all the way to the back, cherry bomb with 3" inlet/outlet. Huge difference at the upper rpm range, and noticeable difference midrange, maybe a bit more power down low too. Before the TWE header/DP combo went on I had a 2" DP with 2" to the back w/ 2" cherry bomb. Much better than stock. If you aren't doing anything to the header or DP I wouldn't go spending big $ on the 3" . The header is by far the worst power robber IMHO, then the tiny DP, then the exhaust/muffler with the smaller outlet than inlet[stock turbo muffler]. This is based on the mods I've done to three turbo wagons that have all had different levels of mods done at any given time so I've been able to do alot of comparisons. No dyno's just timed runs. IMHO divorced wastegates aren't needed just a bigger DP throat at the turbo flange so flow is unrestricted. I spent 250 CDN that's on a 2" dp and 2" all the way back cherry bomb included.
  19. Ok I have my 29.5x10.5's Interco TrXus mounted to 6 bolt toys on the ru and on the back the sidewall tread rubs on a bolt on the suspension arm, not a lot but I need at least 1/4"- 1/2" clearance. I'm thinking of using longer studs with 2 1/4" spacers a rim/hub. I'm looking for the bolt on 1"-2" spacers but have not had much luck so these are what I've come up with so far. Anyone got sugestions for studs that are a 1/2" longer? How bout rim spacers for more offset? I will try to post pics, just waiting for batteries to charge... stupid digi camera grumble grumble. Why are these pics so grainy? Better ones are in the user gallery.
  20. use the old one from your coil bracket and you're good to go, I've run withou and not had any damage, but that's only for a 1000 cliks or so.
  21. Nice pics, I think I'll bring the Subie down with the bikes, always wanted to do the road trip to Moab thang.
  22. These two sites offer some good reading, I can't post links cause I don't know how but try these on, http://www.turbodriven.com and http://www.grapeaperacing.com. Some interesting bits on turbo history.
  23. I just watched the year end show for Canada's 03/04 rally season and I swear that same clip was from a race in Onterrible[ westcoast saying for Ontario] maybe Do it Sideways knows if it is? Awesome footage from the race series but they announced S.O.A. isn't going to sponsor the Canadian series anymore .
  24. Maybe we could add to/ have something similar to this? I need to get this pic posting thing hapenin.
