I think a recirc at stock boost with an ic is a good idea, with a stock intake there's only 1 litre of air at 7-9psi to clear. No problem for the stock dashpot/throttle plate assembly to deal with, add a charge cooler and it's related hoses and you're going to have anywhere from 4 to 8 litres of air at 7-9 psi. If you don't mind a farting throttle body and a lean start to each shift for the first half second then do with out, but i personally think that from a turbo re-spooling / performance view an ic without a BOV or recirc valve is a mistake and increases strain on your turbo. I don't like how the BOV's can cause a minor stumble but maybe the slightly richer air/fuel ratio that occurs during venting helps your motor run a little cooler. Maybe. So yeah Recircs=Happy motor

What do these filters look like and where might one find them?

Congrat's. ATB with your new job.

You make sound so easy! I will try to compute this after I've gotten some sleep, the babe is feeding/crying around the clock.
-
WJM how did you do that?! The late 80's Audi's have this charge cooler up front, got mine at a wrecker for 50 CDN, and the recirc valve sits underneath out of site, plumbs into the pipe just after the maf[also hidden]. There 4+ inches of clearance under there, I might mount a fan in the summer. The takeoffs on the cooler have been moddified, but because they're composites they were easy to change. This thing sits nice I'm quite happy with it, it's still unfinished looks wise but works well. What do think of my custom scoop?
-
Yeah I know what you're sayin, I was hoping to be done installing the pipes on both cars before the babe was born and I was a tired wreck all the time. I just pulled a rag out of my intake that was making the car run alittle wierd, lol. Funny how you miss things like that when you haven't had any meaningful sleep in long while. Babies are so CUTE.

The photo's are in the photo gallery cause I still haven't figured out how to put them in a thread, but what do you think? The scoop and hood have to be painted and touched up here and there but u get the gist of it. I used another strut tower bar welded to the original for a bracket, and if I remove the two hoses I can replace the chiller setup with the stock intake in about 2 mins. I drove the snot out of her in the snow last night at 14 psi and there was no audible pinging @ 25 btdc. I don't know if the photo's show it but the chiller sits right up in the scoop completely square/symetrical. I used the stock VW/Audi recirc valve that does leak a little @ 14 psi but it'll soon be replaced with something better. I made the scoop myself with a foam mock up that I then fiberglassed, I've got a few other style of scoops on the go that will go on Subie racer #2, and 3, I will post those as the cars are nearing completion.

TWE said that they are still waiting for the group buy check to clear, American checks take a bit longer to clear, Kieth said as soon as the cheque clears they're out the door.. I ordered and paid back in Sept and will have pipes either today or tomorrow, depending on UPS. Are you MYXALPLYX and Marck part of the group buy or did you buy separately?

Help installing WRX TMIC - what do I need to buy? (lot of PICS)
Vanislru replied to avatar382's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I ran a VW/Audi fmic for a while and lag was increased, but not much. I highly reccomend not running a fmic whithout a recirc or blowoff valve, that's to much air to clear out with the dashpot. I run a tmic now due to a nasty run in with a snow bank, I have very little lag now with current setup. VW/Audi chillers have very compatible takeoffs for subaru front mounts, my fav so far. Recirc valves can be found at wreckers for less than 20. I personally don't like how the ecu deals with the blowwoff valves, it's not hard to run a 3/4" line back to the air intake, especially if you've cut up the front anyhow. Where do I find out how to post pics?:-\ -
A quick question about oil pressure
Vanislru replied to fluffy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's some good pressure, your sensor maybe of by .5, it sounds like you have good seals. After a new oil pump and reseal my sube in the sig runs within the range you describe on 30/50 synthetic + lucas additive. -

That black thing is your wiper motor and you don't want to even think about screwin with it. -
I have a new clutch assembly and it only slips noticably when my shifting is sloppy and I'm boosting about 14 psi. If I try I can make it slip, barely. I use an improved header and 2" dp with 2" back to the hot dog muffler, and a well cooled tmic. If it's a daily driver how often are you going to be going to be slammin' the gears wot?

I've got a set like Monstaru's, but I think the later ones have more offset which is what I'm looking for. Flat black makes these rims look awwesome. Any idea what the offset is on yours Bushbasher?

EA82t Metal Head Gaskets..Possible group buy
Vanislru replied to Do It Sidewayz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Put me down for 2 sets. -
If there's a group buy I'd like in, for two sets.
-
Make one the best of both, sell the 2nd. To swap things over like you said takes me about 1 full day. Island time.

do It!

Welcome to the board and good luck with your ru.

They suggest this for the older VW,s too, I did it on a couple of engines but only managed to ever find one bolt that "needed" it. I'm not sure how this poses a benefit cause aluminum expands with heat at a higher rate than steel bolts do. :-\

Might be a good time to check your springs, make sure they're square and in good shape, or better upgrade to slightly stiffer new springs.

Nice ! That's my kind of price range, finding a complete set of tires at the wreckers is proving alot harder than i thought. Sawzall's rule. Let me know how you make out with the 9.5's that's a nice width.
