86 GL 3dr giving me some trouble
You going to need a tester to determine which is ground. I don't have an EA-82 car that I can go look at to help you but just a simple continuity tester would work. Anybody care to share who has an EA-82 car????? matt

subeman90 replied to Legacy777's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI was wondering...with your car tied up for a while with the swap going on what did you drive while the Legacy was apart? Inquiring minds want to know.... Good Job on the swap, BTW. Do you like the results??? Matt

86 GL 3dr giving me some trouble
I have an idea for you. May sound stupid but I did this to an XT turbo once that missfired and would act strangly. Take some heavy gauge wire and run it between the alternator and the - post of the battery. Make sure you don't put on the + side of the alternator or bad things will happen. Why did this work for me???? My alternator wasn't grounded very well (corosion???) and the wire gave it a better path to ground (duh). My problem was solved and lasted till I sold the car years later. Try it can't hurt..... Matt

Silly XT6 Turbo Idea
Totally thinking what Turbone was thinking....I think in the long run you would be happier with a custom made one from the get go (better flow etc.) As for the crack... "Whatever gets you through the night" - John Lennon Matt

SVX or Legacy Turbo?
subeman90 replied to ShawnW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthey don't all have leather....but most do. i personally would buy the svx. That being said I never had an svx though but I did have a legacy turbo once. The legacy was cool but really it is just a sedan...where an svx is a sports car. I put an svx in higher regars only because they are more rare and like I said sporty. Dogs are flexable for the most part....ususally they don't care what they ride in as long as they get to go for a car ride. If your dog likes to hang its head out the window then the svx isn't going to go too well in that dept. My vote: SVX Matt

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
subeman90 replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen my clutch went bad in my 02 it was at 20k. i told the dealer I wasn't paying for it because I do know how to drive stick... They said they wanted to pull it apart but if they found it to be my fault then I was going to have to pay for the new clutch. I told them I wasn't going to pay to tear it down and then have to pay big money for their junk parts. So Subaru paid the whole thing 100% but about 8k later this clutch got violently shakey so I traded the car and a forester we had on the 04 forester. So far so good with that.... Also, since I traded the car it is still sitting on the lot for sale. I traded it 12-23-03 and yesterday it was still sitting there.... Matt

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
subeman90 replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI honestly think the 96-99 OB is the best choice over a newer car. I had an 02 that I loved to death but the clutch judder was just too much for me to take anymore. I always thought the 96-99 was a tougher looking car....not so mom and pop looking. As for the 2.2 96's.....I found one on a lot close to me...might go look at it this weekend... and it is 5 speed. Don't give up on a 96 there out there..... Matt

Baja spare tire questions
subeman90 replied to Martinjmpr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe automatics run a 90/10 split and make adjustments as needed. if it sees a difference (slip or different size tire) it will think the worst and make traction adjustments accordingly. On an automatic you have the electronics that can be "disabled" by using the FWD fuse for only short periods of time. (per my subaru dealer) With a manual tranny you have no electronics to "disable" so you will end up driving around with the clutches trying to lock. Ever drive a 4wd PU in 4wd on a dry road? That is what it is going to feel like and drive like. Don't let anyone tell you that tire differences don't matter. Back a few years ago my mom had a 92 LS sedan (automatic) that had a bad alignment problem. The garage put 2 new tires on it to go with the 2 in the back that had 50% or better tread of the same brand and size. The car howled and drove really funny. My dad called me and asked to look at the car. I put the FWD fuse in and the howling went away. 3 days later and 2 more new tires later and all was well. Once a few years ago I had a 90 5 speed wagon that had 2 tires go bad (tread seperation) and I was broke so I bought 2 new tires... Same thing as my moms car it howled and drove funny and when I got 2 more new tires (2 weeks later) all was well Just my personal experiences... Matt

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
subeman90 replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXbesides the very good points that the others have made about the 2.5 did you ever consider just a regular legacy wagon? They didn't put 2.5's in them untill way later on and I guarantee they are going to be a cheaper alternative to the OB yet it is still basically the same car.Matt

5sp vs. AT in 96-99 Outbacks
subeman90 replied to 93legacyman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIn my opinion subaru has come a long way with their auto. trannys and I think in a newer soob you have a better chance of it lasting but my personal preference is for the stick. Hold out for a stick and if you get desperate...settle for the auto. Sticks are usually cheaper too. Matt

Baja spare tire questions
subeman90 replied to Martinjmpr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou would think so.... i wouldn't trust it. Imagine this....the baja has a limited slip center and REAR diff. If you used a "doughnut" on the back you might screw up 2 diffs. I hope you can put a real tire and wheel up under there.....I want to buy a baja in about a year or so..... Thought for the day. "just say no to temp. spares...." Matt

Baja spare tire questions
subeman90 replied to Martinjmpr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXit is a temp spare. it is locarted under the bed so you might have room to tuck a full size up in there. To lower it you take a plug out of the bed and turn a crank. I looked at a stick baja this past weekend. temp spare. my old OB that was stick. TEMP SPARE! no iffs ands or buts about it. My Forester...full size. (5 speed) my old forester...full size (auto.) Matt

86 GL 3dr giving me some trouble
Since you don't have a digi camera don't worry about the pic. it isn't that big of a deal.... When you do the filler neck you might want to plan on removing the tank. The strainer in the tank most likely has rust crap all over it and is most likely to be strangling the fuel pump which will sooner or later die. Like I said...don't worry about the pic. does that car even have any rust on the body? Wow that thing is cool. (I always had a thing for the 3dr) Matt

your car does have a hatchback but it is known as a 3 dr. a hatchback is totally different then the car you have. Just a little FYI. Also, i like the car...looks good and clean. Also since you are in BC I assume your cars speedo is in klm as opposed to mph? If so send me a pic if you can...i never saw one in metric. subeman@aol.com Welcome to the board! you will find a bunch of good stuff here and a bunch of good people out on your side of the country.
