I riced out my car.... (warning, 56K)
Skip: unless you had a turbo xt that one isn't yours. The only one I know of that you had was an XT6 that you sold to Dennis....who then put wrx rims on it and then sold it to me....who then took the wrx rims off and put them on my OBS and sold the xt6 because it was making funny motor noises (knock?) and the FT4WD didn't work at all. I hated that car..... now someone in the York PA area has it... sorry for the hijack..... matt

'04 Forester...auto or manual?
subeman90 replied to Kind Karma's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX"For the real test, compare pulling a stuck vehicle out of a snobank with a manual, then do it again with the auto ... ditto the stuck vehicle." I really do disagree but if i could I would take the challenge... Maybe since our snow here is more of a "wet" kind as opposed to the nice powder in the west that might make a difference too. I really need to see MT in the winter....sounds like fun! Matt

'04 Forester...auto or manual?
subeman90 replied to Kind Karma's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would rather drive 60 in fresh snow than 35 in the "ruts" anyday....as long as you know where the road is.... I'm sure many of our Canadian friends are used to this too! Matt

01 V6 Outback vs 02 4cyl Outback
subeman90 replied to legacy48's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXH6 is nice but requires Premium fuel. H4 is pretty good to me in power. H4 has t-belts which need peoridic maintence. H6 nope! H4 is better on gas (which is cheaper because you can use reg. unleded) Honestly it is a toss up in my book. But, since it is a subaru it is a good choice. Me: I bought an 02 back in 2002 brand new and got the H4 but that was only b/c I demanded a 5 speed. If I could have bought an H6 with a sick shift...who knows.... BTW, the engine is Horizontally opposed not a "V" hence the "H". Matt

Rear Pad Change - Legacy broken Pin
subeman90 replied to johnb102's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI did this years ago.... First and foremost the "pin" you broke is a special metric bolt that you most likely will only find at your local dealer. It is $10 If you try to get the piece out or your mechanic tries and fails or screws up the caliper bracket it will cost you like $80 or so from the dealer. Here is what you do. Try to get it out or have the mechanic try. If you fail go to a junk yard and get another bracket. Don't be surprised if you have to buy caliper and all...(I did) but it will be much cheaper.... even the subaru dealer told me to look for used parts...he said it was nuts to order and pay for the new parts. Do NOT skimp on that bolt. It is metric threaded and hardened. When reinstalling use anti sieze on it too! (because of it being hard to find on a sat. afternoon I keep 2 on standby) Do what the person said about the wood in the caliper and limp the car home of to the garage. Save the money on the tow..... Side note: a rebuilt caliper doesn't come with the bracket....atleast the ones I have bought didn't. Good luck, Matt

yeah, its stupid, but answer it anyway.

Tips for the U-Pull yard?
try and wedge something in the lugnuts to the ground. Cursing helps too.... Also, maybe you can put something on the wheel and pull both bars together at the same time. Matt

Catalytic converter and MPG
subeman90 replied to Lesbaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwanted to add to my previous note.....a bad fuel pump (or one that isn't working as well as it should be) will cause problems like this too.... Also, if you put a new "Y" pipe on (where the cat is) replace the rest of the exhaust too. A cat can disintegrate (did I spell that right) and plug up the rest of the exhaust system.... then you spent all that money and the car will still run like @#$% Matt

Catalytic converter and MPG
subeman90 replied to Lesbaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXif your cat is bad your performance will get very slugish. As for prices that sounds to me like highway robery....go to an independant pipe shop and see what it would cost to make it for you. Matt

East Coast- Pine Barrens Run ***THIS weekend***Aug. 28???
a stock loyale 4wd is not a problem. Moosens car is stock, heck most everyones cars are stock height. If everyting goes well I will end up running a stock height impreza with wrx wheels that have nearly bald tires.... As for distance....do mapquest from your location to Atsion NJ and then you will get your answer... Matt

Help me with my Legacy, so I can go faster
subeman90 replied to Hocrest's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXcould you and Keith both get more specific.....I would love to watch some of this stuff but I don't know where to go.... Dave: did you try going to an underdrive pulley set, colder thermostat, maybe swap a manual rack in there and lose the PS??? What about taking the acc. drive belts off totally when racing (my dad did this back in the day at maple grove) the only advantage you have over him is that you will still have your water pump working as opposed to him with nothing... Just tossing out ideas... Matt
