i sold it, it go bye bye probally wont do another subaru for a while, going for a cherokee so i can move my fiance this summer, need something that'll take Arizona/New Mexico/Texas summer heat (oi long drive). heres an interesting fact, insurance on a Datsun Z car is less than a turbo 90 Loyale with FT4WD

little trails of ATF
i think its ATF, short story is when the car isnt quite warmed up it leaves little trails behind. i still need to do the valve cover but i dont think it would leave little trails like that. the transmission is getting low on ATF every now and again, takes about 3k miles before any noticable level change but i cant find where its leaking any atf. the PCV system is cleared and workin right including that one vent line that goes to the top of the transmission, are there other vents though? i thought there were. ideas? 4EAT trans oh one time it burped a bit of atf in the driveway but we again still could not find where it came from

long travel subaru?
well with out changing the frame like that, which is a very holl billy thing to do here, you could probally figure out a way to swap to a solid axle with out modifying too much. since nissan/datsun share alot with subaru i'd suggest a H190 rear end or a Pathfinder rear end, both are solid, H190 is LSD out of a early 200SX, theres a LSD for the Pathfinder but i am not sure on the numbering on those

4EAT Diff Lock Switch
do you really need this though? i notice this trans seems to do pretty well at deciding where power needs to go where, when. better than most

Timing belt slip??
how the hell? those things are pretty stout, i wonder if some jack rump roast was prying them off with something from behind.
-
Which LSD to use - can they be tested?
interesting page, aparently i have part # 38420-RS650 (4-pinion) R200 in mine but i was looking and H190 was available with a 5.429!?!?! i wonder if its swapable with an R200

'90 Loyale AWD Turbo Wagon
what problems are you having with the axles? are they getting clicky? about the turbo, i wouldnt say they are problematic, they are about 20 years old, they've dont a butt load of miles generally and things cant last for ever. that being said, i have same car, same setup and my turbo isnt giving me anyy problems. there was a little bit of oil in the intake last time i had it apart but the PCV system wasnt working right so it could be from that but its possible after 188k miles that the seal in the turbo is worn. that being said i dont notice much difference in power, mabe its because its turning 4 wheels all the time but it doesent seem to have any more power than any other loyale/gl that i have driven

oil gage
just try a few pressure sending units from the junk yard. if you got a replacment pump i am guessing you got a replacment sending unit, i bet its one thats about 3 times bigger than OEM, they fail real easy. alsmot as if they get accustomed to a certian pressure and/or flow and when you do something or fix something to get better flow/pressure it cant handle it and dies

So I'm leaking fluids....
you might just do the valve cover thats leaking any way, mine had a similar problem with the bolts but its still leaking from the one side that was loose after i have tightened everything up. infact its getting worse and it makes my car look like its on fire when i am sitting at a light.

What's wrong with Fram oil filters??
hand tight? too tight, lubed gasket before installing. its basicly spun on till it meets up and tightened up by hand by about an 8th of a turn. wix are the only ones that do this, the ************ rump roast wally world filter that i got as a spare with a car didnt
-
What's wrong with Fram oil filters??
i've had a problem with wix filters out of any thing amazingly. wix filters seem to suck down and try to become a rock hard permanent part of my oil pump that wont come off having worked at a lube shop i can honestly say, it depends on the filter number when it comes to frams, some are carboard ended and others are metal ended. it could be a lot number thing too because i have seen em with higher quality parts in them

removing a turbo manifold, what am i missing?
nope all the bolts on the underside of the manifold are out and the 4 are off on the base of the turbo, heatsheilds are off. this is kinda pissing me off because when i cant get it have to put it all back again because its my main car untill my injector o-rings get here. problem is when i have the heat on it sucks alot of exhaust into the cab. the manifold isnt the problem, the engine doesent move at all for it to give me any room to get the manifold out. its like its still bolted down to the motor mounts when its not. with all the bolts out, with a jack of a crane i lift the engine, the car still comes with it.
-
removing a turbo manifold, what am i missing?
well undoing the motor mounts and pitch stop it should move right? it doesent move at all, like its still bolted down
-
EA82T lack of power and idling problem
another thing to check for would be a cracked manifold. see if theres any exhaust comming from behind the heat sheild between the turbo and the last cylinder comming into the manifold
-
removing a turbo manifold, what am i missing?
i dont get it, i've been able to pull them out of other cars but i cant seem to do it on mine. the cars in the junkyard, i undo the 2 motor mounts on the underside and i undo thepitch stop for good measure and i can uaully lift or pry the engine over enough to get the manifold out. my car i undo the 2 motor mounts on the under side and the pitch stop and it doesent budge! this is frusterating, i have a repaired manifold i would like to try so my turbo would acually spin!

Low Oil pressure
heres a benchmark: mines a 1990 turbo wagon runs always at 1/4 the way up on the temp guage except on tripple digit days where it'll run 1/3 the way up oil pressure, even on tripple digit days, runs arround half way at high way speeds, warmed up using 30 weight. i had 2 sending units go bad on mine so i junk yarded some. its not a good sign if your pressure goes down and the temp goes up though. what weight oil are you using?

gotta love the search forum
a major part of the problem is the minimum search charactr legenth.. if you search 5 lug hub its only going to search lug hub and dropps 5 because its "too short" and most people use 5 instead of five so.... its pretty lame, use the google one

Free welder!
aww suck, i wish i was near by still i'm using a wire electric only welder (cant think of the type) i hope the welds on the exhaust manifold hold
