  3. wow , that is wierd , my 81 wagon has some strange stuff going on with the electrical system too . i've melted all kinds of things - the high beams cooked the fuse box one night . she's still takeing me to work when i need her to ! good luck , i can't offer much advise other than grounds seem to very important on my wagon , i've had to clean and reattatch most of them , i've got some rust issues . murph
  4. welcome newbie , lots of nice folks in here , and some very knowledgable ones at that ! good luck on the driveing test .... do they make you take any classes , or formal instruction before you can take tha test ? be safe , have fun ! subaru's are great cars - enjoy ! happy holidays , murph

  6. welcome , lots of cool people in here - with one very cool thing in common - subarus ! good luck on your search for your new ride . the older ones are very scarse around here too , none in the junkyards ! later on , murph
  7. thanks for shareing that , very funny . ...and the blonde is pretty hot too !
  8. wow man ! great looking xt6 ....good luck with it . i'm trying like hell to make room in my garage so my 88 xt6 doesn't have to sit outside anymore . not an easy job , i'm a horrible pack rat / garbage picker / dumpster diver .
  9. a lifted xt6 ? really ? .......really ? nice car man , i love mine - but in my opinion ( i know who gives a s**t ) some vehicles are better off low or slammed . the xt6 is ( again in my opinion ) one of those vehicles ! i do really like the wheels , i would like to stuff some bigger meats under my 6 . btw i got 27 mpg on the last road trip , driveing AGRESSIVELY , mostly backroads -nice and curvey - lots of passing in the straights !
  10. 88xt6 - 153,000 , got 27 mpg going to see my daughter for thanksgiving on the other coast of florida . mostly backroads across the state and highway up the coast . got to see the space shuttle land this morning !
  11. great pictures friend , hope you don't get tired of hearing that ! i watched the entire slide show , that is some amazeing stuff . are the pictures with the vivid green in the sky " altered " ...or is that what you saw with your eyes ? love those old subies ! wish my wagon was 4wd , it would look like some of those in iceland - or washington ! stay warm buddy , thanks - murph
  12. hey general ! , you rock , just enjoyed the how -2 on clutch cable replacement , great job - wish i would have had that availible when i did mine . i'm 6'3" - yeah it's tight in there . thanks again , very informative . murph
  13. i don't think the pin is in the axle , ( unless u mean the cotter pin at the end )there is a roll pin at the transmission connection , that almost cannot be there , it may be in the axle , in which case the mechanic didn't get the axle all the way "home" before reinstalling the roll pin - i could see that happening . sloppy work by the guy with tools who worked on your car ( can't really call him a mechanic ) . good luck , hope thats all it is , get the pin out , get the axle back in place , all the way home , install the pin . keep on rock-in' ! later:headbang:
  14. I did this a few weeks ago , but just had my daughter take the pics . in the process of going all flat black
  15. not that changeing axles is terribley difficult , but i personally wouldn't do all the work to put in axles from the salvage yard - odds are you'll be changeing them again very soon . hope this doesn't sound too hack - but i have got a bunch more miles out of stuffing some grease back in there and wrapping the boots with some construction grade cellofane - zipp ties - black electric tape , all wound in forward direction . super cheap fix - only temperary of course .
  16. hey bob , welcome - is this your first subaru ? you are going to love working on that one , the designs make a lot of sense ! good luck
  17. i didn't bother to balance them , the whole thing was really an experiment - wasn't sure it was going to work . my 81 gl wagon is front wheel drive only , so i jammed some low profile 50 series meats under stock suspension . i had to cut the front wheel wells just a little so they don't rub on turns . now that i've been driveing around some and i'm confident they will work fine , i'll go and get brand new tires mounted and put them on the wagon myself . it looks really cool - sorry no pics yet - no camera :-\
  18. i never even thought to drill the hubs , i cut the center out of an old stock wheel , bolted that to the 15" wheel , lined it up on the drill press and started pokeing holes . as for the tire shop - well i got some used tires from a guy and mounted them myself - old school - crow bars . yes it sucked but i did it to aviod the "why did you drill the rim ? " question . saved a few bucks and had a pretty good work-out right in the driveway .
  19. YES , SUBARU IS NUTS ! WHO ELSE PUTS THE STARTER RIGHT ON TOP WHERE YOU CAN GET TO IT EASILY ? EVERYBODY ELSE BURIES THEM UNDERNEATH , WITH CRAP IN THE WAY ! I DRIVE MY SUBARU'S LIKE AN OLD MAN - AND I'M GETTING CLOSER ALL THE TIME - 2300 / 2500 RPM IS MY TYPICAL SHIFT POINT , GUESS I NEED TO MASH THAT PEDAL ON THE RIGHT A LITTLE MORE .
  20. Hey , i've got an 88 xt6 ,looks just like that - except for the ground clearence , has that one been lifted ? Or is that the air suspension max'd out ? My air ride was removed before i got it.
  21. Thanks for the video , moveing right along . Sounds cool ,nice exhaust work !
  22. MY 81 GL WAGON HAS HAULED A WHEEL BARROW AND SHOVELS FOR YEARS ON THE ROOF , AND ALL MY CONCRETE FINISHING TOOLS IN THE BACK . I ONCE HAULED A PORTABLE BASKETBALL GOAL ON THE ROOF , FOR A FRIEND WHO COULDN'T FIT IT IN HIS HONDA TRUCK
  23. That makes sense , thanks for clearing that up - nice self-control not fireing it up at 10:30 pm , i'm not sure if i could have waited ! I am getting older and a little wiser , i probabley wouldn't have gotten any sleep though . Good luck , your getting closer !
  24. Very cool looking brat , i had no idea that subarus could be liftedlike that . I bet it's a blast to drive off the pavement
