Time for a NorNV/NorCal meet!
Jibs replied to subieman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah we can meet at my place, Brian has to drop some stuff off and I need to show everyone whats been going on there and everything else. -
Most of the Brat kits fits a wagon, the rear shock extensions are different. They bolt differently to the wheel wells between the 2 cars.

West Coast Subaru Show 9 is set!!
Jibs replied to West Coast Subaru Show's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Would anyone want to pick me up at the Olympia airport on their way through? The reason why I don't know if I can make this one and ESPECIALLY why I can't bring a car to this years show is that I leave for China on July 3rd, and I wouldn't have much time to drive back, get the rest of my stuff packed and take off from there. I'd like to make it, but would have to fly into and out of Olympia. If anyone can help out, PM me. -
Things haven't worked out for most of us. I am still owed the full amount I paid. (A LOT)

Will Gen 2 Brat seats fit Gen 1?
Jibs replied to Leeroy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I don't think they do. The Gen 2's are wider. Even 80 Brat seats are tricky to fit in an 81, I got 3 of the bolts to line up. -

I don't think I'm makin this one. The dates are conflicting with my OTHER vacation. -
A lot of people are gonna tell you not to do it because of the weight issue, but Sweet82's done it. I know there's a couple of atv rims that are close to our bolt pattern. (I heard like 4 x 139.7mm or something close.) Check around, some of the atv tires nowadays are getting to handle more and more loads.

EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
Jibs replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
It seems like I need a special tool to get EJ heads off? It looks like a torxx socket, 15mm right? I tried to get a pair of heads off at the yard today and couldn't. Are there any other specialty tools I will need to work on an EJ? -
So wait. You want the 82 manual and your son wants the 83? why don't you just swap motors? Give him the 83 and you keep the 82?
-
I'll thro a vote for MWE axles. I've had mine for a couple of years and they are AWEOSME. I have TRIED to break them a few times (cough Air time at wcss cough) but yeah they seem to be real good as well.

EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
Jibs replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Which starter do you use with the swap? Ea82, xt6, or EJ? I'd be guessing ea82 as I'm using the ea5-speed. Would I need to use the lockwashers as spacers as I do for the ea81? -
Anyone try this yet? I'm lookin into clutches now for the swap, and was wondering if the wrx disc is a go? Also anyone know offhand if the xt6 clutch and the wrx clutch disc can be had in the dual friction tyoe? I'll have a look-see to be sure, but was just wondering if anyone had any quick info.

Building up a 2.2
Jibs replied to Jibs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Well, money IS an issue, but I want to make sure to do it right the first time. I want to make sure I can do what can be done the first time rather than do it once, have something happen to it and do it again, ya know? -

Dang. You never cease to amaze. Nice job. When are you going to do any of this kinda stuff to a Brat? -

So I looked for some pistons for the 2.2 but couldn't find too much. I heard that rallitek made some, but couldn't find them, ramengines makes some but I don't know how much. Where else? Would getting higher comp pistons AND getting the heads decked be the best thing I could do? -
Looks good. The one I paid Mudrat for was supposed to look just like it. I think I'm still gonna get one like that though.

It didn't for a sec, but hit refresh or something. I see it now. -
I have toyota 6 lug rims on the Brat. 14x6 inch rim with 3.75 inches of backspacing. I am running 28x8.5 swampers and They don't stock out too far. Here's a pic.

About power steering on with the conversion. If I don't have power steering on the Brat, but the ej does, is that going to be a problem? Is the PS unit easy to swap over? Or should I not worry about it? I don't care too much for power steering and if it's too big a hassle I'd just as much not deal with it. I don't know if not hooking the EJ PS unit up is going to affect anything at all though. -

There were pics of a rockcrawling buggy around here somewhere running a 2.5 or something. I'll look for it. Also, up here in Reno a guy has a professional rockcrawler using a 2.5 that I could take some pics of. EDIT: Killed 2 birds with 1 stone: I haven't seen this in person yet, but this is the one built by the guy who lives up here in Reno. -
I had the same issue, it was the shifter bushings. Oddly, when I swapped in the 5speed with Jerry's kit, I wasn't able to use the plastic console piece that holds the 4wd lever boot. I never figured that one out, seemed the 4wd shifter was too low.
