redneck?
Austin - I agree, 4wheelparts.com has cheap swampers. I bought the 28's for 79 a piece. I don't think you're a redneck for soending more than what you paid for a soob in extras. Hell, I got my lifted Brat for free, so I spent more in gas getting it home than I put into buying it.

approach angle
Yeah, you'd have to move the radiator, the oil pan and sending unit, and maybe a few other things. I've been wondering about this as well, and may try having a custom oil pan made. if you found a radiator small enough that could fit in the stock location, but shorter that would work. Otherwise if you move it you'd have to get a REAL GOOD fan to cool it as it wouldn't get much from the flow of the car. Ramengines has a sweet small radiator made for subaru's but its spenday at 460$ the only other thing that could get in the way is what happened to my brat, there's a support that goes from the hood latch to a spot on the valance that isn't there anymore and now my hood doesn't close all the way cause the latch and sheetmetal around it is bent down. Could be fixed with a different support though.

lift kits
There are a few companies who make lift kits for soobs. Ozified.com has them, alliedarmament.com has them and SJRlifts.com has them. SJR has a 3 1/2" kit and the others have a 3 and 4" kits. Normally when you lift a soob and put bigger tires on, 5th gear becomes nonessential as the gearing is affected and 5th gear doesn't get much use. Look into those guys, and maybe try a search to find out what lift kits other members like.

subies fit on QUAD TRAILS!
Here it is Dave this one? You can see part of the tree on the right hand side that we had to fit between. My driver's side front tire is also about 6" from going over a burm and into nothing. This obstacle didn't help when I had no low range and no reverse either.

Relocating Oil sending unit?

Nevada - California Caravan To WCSS8
Ok so here's my plan as of right now: I'm gonna ask for the 22-29th of august off. I wanna drive up the 22 all day. Camp/stay wherever that night. That'll give me wednesday and thursday to wheel around hood river and have some fun. It'll also give me time to fix things in case of breakage. I will then show up for the weekend and then headout sunday night/monday morning and head home.

subies fit on QUAD TRAILS!
Yeah I kept the driver's side tires as much on the trail as I could leaving the passenger side tires off in the brush. More fun for the passenger.

Twin carb ea 81
I remember a board member Edrach had a problem similar at one point and I believe it was a loose nut on the coil. You *may* want to try that, but after that I don't know.

Subiesport's 1978 DL -- stranded!
Did you check the air cleaner? You'll know it's the headgaskets if ya see the milkshake, or in the oil filler there'll be white paste. Other than that I'm not too good at figuring those things out. The hazard light switch is on the steering column on the passenger side halfwat between the wheel and the dash maybe?

Doorless pic
I noticed this firsthand at WCSS7. While wheelin the trails out there, I had tree branches and blackberry bushes smack me (Those blackberries have thorns too! ) So what I did was stay to the passenger side of everything. Though that didn't make the guy sitting with me in the car happy.

5 Speed D/R into Brat Questions
I just got off the phone with Jerry, and I'm ordering a 5 speed kit. He's a great guy, he explained everything real well and went out of his way to help. Hopefully I'll have the Brat running soon.

5 Speed D/R into Brat Questions
Right. We weren't sure if you use the ea81 crossmember, or the ea82 with ea81 tranny mounts and whatnot. I just Pm'ed Jerry with some q's on that kit.

5 Speed D/R into Brat Questions
Yeah I looked theough the USRM, but wasn't quite sure. The ea81 I am using is a JDM one that WAS hooked to an AT ea81, so maybe I won't have to grind anything. I have a spare motor sitting here that I can hook the flywheel to to be sure. I'll definitely be contacting BratsRus1 on that conversion, I had forgotten he was doing that. Thanks for the help.

5 Speed D/R into Brat Questions
I picked up a flywheel today. I need it to be turned to xt6 specs right? Anyone have a link to the xt6 specs? Thanks.

5 Speed D/R into Brat Questions
Ok since Mudrat won't come through with my parts I'm gonna go ahead and install a regular 5 speed into the brat. I've got the parts I need except for the flywheel but I have a question or 2. Can someone post a pic of where I need to grind the bellhousing to make the ea82 flywheel fit? I'm sure I can figure it out, but a pic would speak a thousand words. Also, since the Brat is lifted 4/3" am I gonna need to do anything else with the tranny to get it to shift better/easier? When I talked to Mudrat, he said something about welding a triangle piece of metal into the shifter to raise it up or something??? Any info or tips would be appreciated.
