heater problem 86 spfi a/t sedan, fan does not work
WJM replied to 86subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
did you check power to and from the blower motor resitor? -
Its a good oil detergent. Keep using it until the tick stops. Dont forget to change oil/filer reguarly (2000~3000 miles) and use QUALITY oil....either MObil 1 snythetic, or the Castrol GTX.

Napa Oil pumps...would you trust em?
WJM replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Id its a Clevite or Melling oil pump, use it. If its some off brand you never seen (unless its a Japanese Co) then dont use it.... All the oil pumps I sold during my 2 years at NAPA never came back and we never had issues with them. -
Me. All the other gaskets are OK to use. DO NOT USE THE NAPA HEAD GASKETS!! Hey will not hold up in the turbo engine. I know this all too well. Please use the OE head gasket from SUBARU, PN: 11044AA013 Now back to my reguarly scheduled programming....

Lets all look at the Rotary RX...(56K die!)
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
THere are no carbs on it. -
Yeah, what problem? I must know before I get new ones.
-
All the 87+ MY and so on increased weight due to different safety requirements and so on. Bumpers are different and so on. thats the weight difference. 85 RX listed in book has PS/AC and such...LOADED its 2520...and yes that only applies to 85-86 RX sedan.

Uh, Yeah....? Uh...yeah....? that all ='s wider track y0!
-
should be. I think its more liek 4x114 or something...its the really old toyota pattern.
-
Pending arrival of my 'new' hubs...i am going look into getting re-drilled to 4x100mm or so pattern....why? I can get 13x7 rims with 0 offset. Put 235/45/13 tires on them. Pending some testing...I will run those on the street with 205/60/13's that I am now running. That will effectively widen the cars front and rear track, as well as allowing the tire to be on a properly sized rim for its width...allowing even MORE GRIP! So..i just cant wait to get the hubs in and test fit this rim I have....

Does anyone tow with a 1.8L FWD wagon?
WJM replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Umm...id say it could tow safely up to 1500 lbs...but beyond that...either the car needs alot of upgrades...or get something else. -
No. That woudl cost time and $ which i have neither of...and I'd ruin another perfectly good hood. The one on the wagon is an experimental hood...when i figure out how to mount an STi scoop on the hood and make it look IMMACUALTE...then i will start to cut up a good hood to do so....plus the IC keeps changing underhood positions...so...would not make sense to cut up hoods...jsut make one fit all until its all perminant. lol

85/86 RX sedan...2520.
-
I autox'ed it. "Wheres the damned power!??!?! " I forgot how slow a stock EA82T engine is. It handled great...but...no balls. The exh, and intake stuffs fix that. After the IC in on properly, thats the end of mods for the engine until i can get a MS+DIS unit worked out perfectly and able to tune it. The rest of the work will be on suspension/handling/brakes/tire-wheel combo.
-
Take the hood scooped wagons hood and clean all the oil from it, sand it down...paint it white, and put it on the RX, and install the WRX IC stuff on the RX if i get unlazy and the wind stops blowing outside.
-
That and service the HVLA's so they dont tick.
-
OH NO3S!!1 that means when i repaint it I willneed to get RX decals put abck on! I was going to have the car repainted...but its going to be PURE WHITE, trim and all, with only the front and read badges showing.

How rare was a "awd" ea82t wagon
WJM replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
got it and replied. -
Hmmm.......going points...I know when i dropped the wagon's rump roast about 2 inches at its last autox before the final blow up...that was good for 9 tenths.
-
Idealy, you want to take the engine out and while its out, replace every gasket on the engine. Have the heads send off ot be presure tested and machined back to trueness....and put it all back together properly, make sure the cooling system in in perfect health, and run Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 in it, and it will run forever.

Buy it. Its rare. -
Ok...back in the day...the GL-10 had the exact same suspension setup as the RX has now. RX weighs in at 2670 lbs, showroom stock. I had the GL-10 on race car scales one night, it weighed in at 2664, with junk still in the car...about 50 lbs worth of stuff...so its sitting at about 2610, +/- 10 lbs or so on autox day... The RX handles better with the same suspension than the wagon. Why? I dont get it. Did the engineers at SUBARU of the time make the 56B chassis better than the rest? Is the Coupe chassis more structually sound than the sedan/wagon? Even w/out the PS rack bushing kit installed and the solid control arm bushings...the RX has better handling/turn in/response than the wagon. the RX feels like a freaking WRX car. Definatly feels better than the WRX's Ive driven...and the stock STi....the only STi that beats it is Midnight_Gold's STi. so what makes the RX better? (note the wagon was basically an RX *has D/R, LSD, custom suspension, EVERYTHING*...only lacked the actual 56B chassis)

When i looked at the rad, they looked like old 1950's radiators. OLD, rusty, and probably done for on the inside. I think one well built AL rad woudl do fine up front. -
wanna see another WRX powered brat?
WJM replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That looks like that brat that was in the car & driver article online that went up against the Porsche 996...and won...until 4th gear hit.
