  1. I dont have it on mine currently, i left the mech fan on for reliability sake.
  2. Yes they are still avalible. I do not understand the 2 different PN's for FT and 4wd...they looks the same to me.
  3. I dont think so. I know for a fact the rear diff cannot be swapped into the front. It is possible to have custom machined a reverse set of ring/pinion....
  4. I have not had my AAV plumbed in for months. Its just sitting there blocked off. After about 1 min of babaysitting the idle in sub 30*F mornings...it idles perfectly at 900...as it warms the idle increses to 1200 where I want it. I get ~26 MPG around town and depending on traffic and weather...somewhere between 32~37 MPG in the interstate. I think you gas mileage may be affected by other things...O2 sensor? Lead foot? When i lead foot the RX the fuel goes fast...sub 20 MPG...eventhough Dragon trips (80% WOT) Ive yeilded ~22 mpg up there.
  5. No, they are all different. The JDM autos, the NICE ones have a REAL center diff that is like the DCCD units. However, none of that stuff can interchange as far as I know. All of it is different. However, aquire some and try it. I just dont know for sure....but I am betting that it wont work. Well...I have seen N/A 4wd transmissions with the 25 spline on EA82 cars. I am sure that ALL ER27's have the 25S axles...and I know that ALL EJxxx/EGxxx/EZxxx cars are 25S until they switched to stubbed axles. ALL EJ/EG/EZ AWD cars have an 'lsd' center. The EARLY 5spds should swap into our FT boxes with little modification. I know the later ones will not, I tried it. I would tend to think even the 2wd 5spd 'turbo' transmissions (ones with 25S axles) have the same diff. I need to look up the PN on those transmissions. what came with a front LSD stock? most to al of the later STi's...and most of the 'special' models that we never got. ZERO SUBARUs came with a front LSD here in the USA...except for the STi. You cannot use the 6MT front diff. It is an ENTIRELY different unit...much smaller...it 'fits' but it doenst line up to anything.
  6. Thats a good idea...but the casing would need to be redically altered to house it...AND the ATCD parts are designed to function with ATF and not gear oil...so you would need to seal off the 'DCCD' so it uses ATF...then find a way to circulate it and cool it, as the case would be very small and the ATF would heat up very fast under slip conditions. The 4wd, 4wd turbo, and 2wd turbo all use 25 spline axles and stubs.
  7. That is impossible. The new style VLSDCD will not work at all, PERIOD. However, the older style VLSDCD is *rumored* to work with minor modifications. *IF* it works using the stock stuff...then I can use it in SP....I am looking for a 1st getn VLSDCD equipped 5spd...its from MY89 to MY93.
  8. Google is your friend. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=subaru+front+lsd
  9. A 'light' clutch type. Nothing really heady duty. Something like an off the shelf Cusco or Kaaz. And yes, this is one of those things that you would not want to "try at home"....but if you are very good at mechanical stuff and have no problems learning...simply replacing the front diff is easy...but NOT for a faint of heart.
  10. Oh...I would NOT recommend taking one apart if you plan on making it work again. The S/R EJ trans seemed rather simple...the D/R with diff lock was...more complicated. All kinds of things fell out that I have no idea where they came from....however I am going to attempt to put it back together with the Helical in it and BEAT THE EVER LIVING SHIZZZZZZZZZZZZZNIT out of it to find thse transmission's TRUE limits. As for weling...I wouldnt recommend a welded front. Do a clutch type front atleast...for offroading...
  11. Dude, its easy....the same as swapping it into anyother 5spd subie transmission.
  12. Pinion is. Rings are not as long as they are the same ration. aka 3.900 ring to 3.900 ring......3.700 ring to 3.700 ring........................ IF you can find an old school pinion for the transmission thats 4.444...then you can get a new school ring thats 4.444... I know the pinion shafts *LOOK* very different and are only avalible in 3.700 and 3.900....so........... BUT...I've not fully dissasembled the old school pinion shaft section YET.
  13. as long as it is a 4WD 5spd box, yes. How? people dont think like I do. SUBARUs=Legos I do not know that. Someone will have to pull a 4spd apart and compare the diffs. The partnumber is different, and the stub spline count is different...which makes me think no...however, it very well could be the same. Clutch. Helical. SureTrac. VLSD. Open. *insert all other brand names here* You will need a FRONT LSD to be installed. ANY REAR LSD will NOT work. See my other thread about that.
  14. after researching...looks like I am going to go with a helical front. Better for tarmac. Clutch type for gravel.
  15. bah! oh well. In that case...I'll never own one.
  16. Phantomgrip=evil No PG for me. I will go quality with either a Kaaz or Cusco.
  17. I cant find anywhere that the EF10 and EF12 are made by Suzuki. I believe the statement that the engine is suzuki is...just plain wrong.
  18. ...the rear unit is physically SMALLER. Both bearings are in difffrent locations. The rings will not interchange due to different bolt pattern (8 bolts rear, 12 bolts front). I am sure the stubs will not interchange. I am sure there are more items, however, i did not go beyond comparing the units side by side.... In order to make the rear unit work in the front, EXTREME machining modifications will need to take place. [TEASE]It would be alot cheaper and easier to............................[/TEASE]
  19. 38421AA020 Application(s): DL/GL/GL10/RX/XT/XT6/Leone/Loyale 4wd and 4wd TURBO 5MT S/R+D/R(read: ALL ea82/ER27 4wd and 4wd turbo S/R+D/R transmissions) ALL Legacy 4wd 5spd to 2004MY ALL Baja N/A 5spd to 2003 MY ALL Impreza 5spd to 11/2003 production date (including ALL WRX and STi 5spd, except 6MT) ALL Forester 5spd to 2003 MY They are the SAME unit from 1984(1985 MY) to 2003(2004MY, however some are mixed with the new type stubless driff) for all 4WD 5spd transmissions. Guess what that means? We have had nearly unlimited front LSD options ever since companies started making fornt LSDs for the 5spd. OBX-R Helical for me.
  20. Why wont anyone decode and offer a flash for any subaru other than the WRX, STi, 2.5 RS? No profitable market. Although the SVX's have flashes avalible...that is a VERY niche market corner....those SVX guys are pretty far out there (those who are into modifications for them atleast) Us EA82 guys are all about the $....how much can we NOT spend and make it the best and fastest car out there. That is the main issue. On top of that there is really no one out there with enough patience to deal with us. Why do you think there are no real vendors here? On the otherhand, since the cars are not an OBD-II car, it would save alot of time, money, and head pains to get a MegaSquirt. If you want something more....real...as others have described it...find a used AEM or Hydra on ebay and wire it on up. Its not difficult.
