  1. are we using the phrasing "air flow meter" in substitute for MAF? because i had similar sounding symptoms of my 96 LS that a new MAF fixed.
  2. i havn't read all the posts and this quite possibly could be a re-post: i had the same problem. got a brake flush and bleed and all was fine. i woke up yesterday here in Pittsburgh and it was -8 and the breaks worked perfectly.... the struts however seemed frozen and the entire ride to work felt like i was in a WWII Military Jeep.
  3. i do, strictly to see people's faces and for the crowd's entertainment. my car brings quite a few comments.
  4. no one here's very sure how cold that is exactly....
  5. it sounds like this is turning into a "spend more than it's worth" scenario
  6. it is the 96 and it's the early 96 so it's non-interference. to my knowledge, the timing belt has never been replaced. i bought it from it's first owner at about 63k miles, and i know i've never done it. i did just have the thermostat replaced around 85k.
  7. so, i'm going to be getting a timing belt job. what are some other "while they're in there" things i should ask about for a 120k mile legacy ej22?
  8. my solution for all that was always to just keep track of my mileage on the trip odo then watch for the fuel light, or fill up around 240miles (300 hwy)
  9. ooo...yeah....me too
  10. no, just be careful not to let ANY opening on your intake get wet. seal it up nice and tight and you'll be good to go.
  11. ok.. this is EXACTLY what happens. If you spray water on your MAF sensor the engine shuts down. if you spray less water on it, if gets bogged down with a loss of power. there you go. your MAF got wet.
  12. yeah, it's been a while. I'm graduating in december and have been SUPER busy getting my design portfolio ready and everything...havn't had a whole lot of time for the forums. here's an update on the Green Machine: it's over 2k miles overdue for an oilchange (though i have been adding quarts as needed. If i try to put it in drive right after startup when cold it bogs down until i let off the gas. i have slow leaks in 3 of the 4 tires. My belts are shredded and starting to whine and squeal. The CEL keeps coming on with a knock sensor code, then goes away for a week or 2 then comes back on. I'm fine thanks, how are you?

when i went from 195/65r15 to 215/75r15 there was no real noticeable difference in mpg. it's a 96 legacy
  14. i've put serious concideration into king springs+outback struts, but my concern lies in the CV joints.
  15. if you look at the 2000-2004 outbacks, they're really not that high. nothing noticeable over any other wagon really. if you look at the 05-06 there is definitely a difference and it is much higher. in my 96, when i put the outback struts on, i'm up to around 9.5 (slightly lower...maybe 9.3/9.4) inches of clearance at the rear pumpkin. they probably just tried harder than they did with the 00-04. taller struts would do it no problem.
  16. struts/tires. some people say the springs are stiffer too, but i'm not sure about that. i put outback struts on my 96 legacy and have the same amount of clearance as an outback (after installing larger tires).
  17. thanks for all your help guys, you're the reason i still spend my time here.
  18. who's there? circuit 1 bank 1. HAHAHAHA GET IT???? yeah, so it's not that funny. my CEL keeps coming on about once a week after i clear the code that says that the knock sensor circuit 1 bank 1 is erring. this obviously leads me to believe that it's bad. 2 questions: Estimated cost? Is it something that i can do it in the parking lot of my apartment building with only basic tools (wrench, plyers, sockets/ratchet, various screwdrivers)? and if you don't know by now: 96 legacy 2.2 ~120k
  19. from what i can tell (and have tried) a 215/75r15 cheap tire (trail mark) will fit with acceptible rubbing, and 205/75r15 will fit with acceptible rubbing with a name brand tire (goodyear/BFG)
  20. yeah, i like my 22 too. but its sure as hell not for the mpg. 24hwy 20cty. i like the solidness of it.
  21. the only thing that i can see as better i shtat you can tach up the revs and ease it into gear to get a little more power. but other than that, you can keep an EJ auto in 1st and/or 2nd gear.. ..at least that's what i do
