  1. You could always lift the RX. Looks like your friend does good work. I've just begun looking for somebody here to make me some armor/skid plates, as well as a real diff hanger. I need um. I'll keep draggin' the picnic-bumpers till I've got that other stuff straightened out. I really need to learn to weld. As far as the date goes, if it's pushed back a bit I can pickup my CCR motor AND see an RX on the same trip. That would be subie-tastic! Subarifc even!
  2. I don't care when it is so long as I get to see an RX. Never seen one in real life.
  3. I could be WAY off, but is the antenna 2m?
  4. I dunno, this counts as some kinda respect, even if it is 'shoped!
  5. $30 a night in April??! Must be way dirtbag! I'll be camping, and I hope others are planning to do this as well. The hotel-going folks are welcome to come stand around the fire, of course. BTW, I'd suggest anyone wanting to camp bring some firewood along. The recycle center usually has a pile of pallets for $1 a piece, but so soon after Safari they'll prolly all be gone. Otherwise, it's gonna be $4 for a dinky bundle of logs.
  6. Fruita Fat Tire Festival [mtn bike] is April 29th - May 7th. I'd like to be there, but I can see hordes of tourists on the local trails anytime. Of course, it's not just any weekend that New Belgium shows up with 30 kegs. Just throwing a date out here, how about April 15-17, Fri-Sun. Does that mean taking too much time off, Roc?

Didya listen to the Audio? In realaudio format, click on the lil speaker icon... Its Java, I can't link directly to the audio.
  8. Sounds like there's not to remove then. I've got a 3.7 LSD here, I haven't taken it apart yet though. I've got 2 3.9s to work with, so I can have a running car and take my time. I wouldn't even be trying it without your article, thanks. What about the seals, are these what I'm looking for?

http://www.npr.org/rundowns/segment.php?wfId=4250292 Zap: Move this to off-topic if that's more appropriate, but it does in fact contain Subaru Offroad content.
  10. I'm also about to do this swap. Where'd you get the seals and rings and such, is it a "dealer only" item, are there parts numbers? Till I take it apart, I can't picture exactly what I'll need. What about clutch disks? My LSD has around 150K, what's the expected life of these things. Futhermore, how much grinding needs to be done? I have no air tools, but I do have access to them. What's the suggested method?
  11. I've always wanted to see "how to fix a strut with a hi-lift handle" like was done on the Subicon. Really. Where are the pics, fellers?
  12. You're welcome down here ifin you wanna, but like I said its a bit out of the way. I take it your wagon isn't making the trip?
  13. Also, was the plan to do a tame family outing at the Grand, and a wacked-out-subie-insanity run in Moab at a different time?
  14. Moab Jeep Safari is March 19-27th. Prolly not the best time, or the week before or after. On the other hand, we could attempt a total coup d'état and actually register our rigs in the event. It's open to all makes of vehicles.
  15. Yo! Yer @#$%^# dog ate both my couches last night! Its OK, we had a long talk and she promised she wouldn't do it anymore.
  16. So, having recently shown that an ea81 will float, are you just gonna drive there? I mean, if those Cubans could drive an old dodge pickup to Florida, I think a subie can make it to Hawaii. Might have some rust issues. On second thought, I guess your previous wagon has already disproved my theory!
  17. I have nightmares about leaving the wagon in the desert overnight.... the redneck hi-skool kids here tend to find unattended vehicles AND SET FIRE TO THEM.
  18. Which one? Dave's in NH with his family, thus he hasn't been posting. Aparently, an ea82 y-pipe will bolt up, so we've got a complete non-leaky exhaust on my partswagon.
  19. Well, you were right! The whole mile or so between the big sand pits was pretty hairy. The first obstacle, "The Waterfall" was tricky cause the sun hadn't hit it yet that day and was wet and slick.... and your like a foot from that jeep sized death-hole! But there wasn't any burning clutch. Really. The wagon can lunge up the ledges well enough, and Dave just used ramming speed all day! I saw the hatch unexpectedly leave the ground a number of times! We had a mechanical leaving camp on Sandflats that morning; the wagon blew out both accesory belts, which knocked my dipstick out (found it floating around the engine bay) and pulled the wire off the oil pressure senor... No big deal. The dudes at CarQuest thought we were pretty wacky. They also thought the Hatch was a Justy. Gold Bar, Steel Bender are next on my list. Gold bar has one huge ledge that might require some rock-stacking. You say there's a big move on SB that could give us some trouble, but I can't picture it so I'm gonna pretend it's not a problem 'till I'm staring at it. Also, I dunno if you heard, but some work was done on that gas pipe on Amasa/Cliff Hanger.... They ran heavy equipment up there and cleared most of the rock and backfilled most of the ledges.... So difficulty went from 4+ to a 3 at best. Lame.
  20. In the bicycle world we would call this "cable stretch" which is really housing compression. Back the p-brake adjuster out, and cinch up those cables at the caliper arm. Also, disconnect the cable all together and move the arm by hand [well, channel locks would be better] till it stops, see if you can turn the hub. If the brake works by hand, its definetly cable tension. That's my best guess anyway.
  21. Yeah, well, from down here Alaska looks like way too much fun!
  22. The question is why hasn't there been a Subie event in Moab? What we did down there, it's not like we were setting out for the Rubicon or something. What I mean to say is all yinz lifted boys could handle it [easily] as well. Yeah there's routes like the White Rim - 110 miles of other-wordly scenery - that are perfect for a stock 4x Ru. Also many more-challenging routes that don't require a lift. Furthermore, if anybody busts up their stuff, me and Dustyrider's Backyard Subaru-Haven is a short tow away. Not that you'll need it.
  23. Sweet stuff. We never get to play in the mud down here.
  24. So this is the 15th @ Red Rocks then??? If so I'll bring the Safari Wagon.
  25. I lived down there for a year, I know the trails purdy well on two wheels.... There's a thread on a possible Southwest meet in Mobe. I've sniffed out most of the Subie-able routes, and Sweet82 has a pretty good handle on the trails as well.
