Meet Spiffy
1982gl4 replied to 1982gl4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI love the early lego too, my favorite by far! I was thinking about swapping this one, but i just don't have the time. Plus I had and SVX that I swapped and it was never quite right. Plus these, in my opinion, are one of the best auto transmissions out there with manual mode, and POWER mode! I love it when that green light comes on! Hahaha! If this one dies I have another one with 137k I can drop in! I love parts cars!

1982gl4 replied to 1982gl4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat would work as well... I have some red ones so I will probably just paint them at the same time as the door, which looks hilarious with the black car! Fits in with all the other Vermont cars now! Hahaha!

Meet Spiffy
I just picked this 1992 Subaru Legacy LS this weekend for $650 needing an alternator and a door (both of which I had) ! It has 220k on it but runs like a champ. It was named Spiffy by the P.O. so I have decided to keep the name. So far I have swapped on forester wheels, replaced the RR door, added a new stereo, replaced the alternator, break lines, and I added a weather/compass digital readout from a rs25! So far it's been a good project! I still need to fix the rear quarter from when it got hit and paint the door, along with replace the struts and exhaust. But so far I have no more money into it than the original purchase price due to a vast amount of parts cars Here are some pics!

2nd gen legacy strut tower rust
1982gl4 replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt seems to cause rust mostly on the rear quarters because all the dirt and grim that goes up in that hole seems to settle in the rear quarters right by where the wheel well and bumper meet. However... One Impreza I had, looked good from the outside and this rust had totally ate away the rest of the towers. I only found out because a dog had chewed the rear seat belts and I had to change them. After taking all the plastic out I had discover the strut towers were ready to collapse and this was a 2000 it wasn't even old (by my standards!) So I didn't end up fixing that one :-\-SB

rim swap
1982gl4 replied to jrt2nd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had 2000 forester alloys on my 02 WRX and they worked fine. The offset is a little different, but as stated already with the correct tire size it shouldn't matter. -SB

2nd gen legacy strut tower rust
1982gl4 replied to WoodsWagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have notice this too. Imprezas do it as well :-\ It's not super structural, but it lets the salt and mud and everything into the rear quarters and rust them from the inside out, hence why the are all missing the rear quarters in NE. I grease mine all the time and don't drive it in the winter because of it -SB

Paint job?
This is my 800 dollar (including primer ect. ect.) paint job in the factory color it's pro single so no clear coat. ( I did it myself in my garage and I already own all the guns, air compressor, sanders, ect.) But in the real world as stated much more $. Chances are you will not have it come out this good if it is your first paint job. I've gotten a lot of practice, but I still messed up the hood :-\

Rear wheel wearing faster than the others
1982gl4 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsually the rear trailing arm bushings are the ones that go bad. They are the ones that the lower arms on the rear suspension mount to towards the front of the car if that makes any sense. Usually you can see some cracking, but they can be a pain to see due to the location, and you have to press them in and out when you change them (At least here we have a lot of rust). The dealer here charges outrageous amounts to do them because they must drop the rear suspension out which you don't really have to do. It makes the bushings a lot easier, but makes the time for the job go way up. This is a little different suspension setup than you have. I don't believe yours has a toe link. I work on so many of these It's hard to keep which ones have which parts strait. This is the closest/best pic I can find. The bushing is where the trailing arm (lower control arm as they call it in the pic) closest to the toe link mounts to the body. I see these wear a lot faster than most other bushings on newer Subarus. Again a little different suspension, but hopefully it gives you an idea of a probable cause or a place to look! -SB

Rear wheel wearing faster than the others
1982gl4 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIn Vt we change rear bushings in Subarus all the time. I have even been doing ones in 05-06 cars. Got to love those NE roads, I would say it's worth a look. -SB

Anyone have flared fenders?
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96298&page=3 The guy got these flares off from eBay uk I have no idea if you sill can get them or not, but they make this Brat look pretty cool and I would imagine that they would look really cool on a RX! They are like 3/4 of the way down the page. -SB
