#just run the wires.# Damn Swype.
-
Just run the woes directly to the speaker. Eliminate the possibility of a faulty wire. Or go grab a known good speaker and hook that up real quick just to see if you get any sound. Make sure the balance and fade are in their default positions. Make sure the head unit it's definitely outputting sound. Play a CD. It's either Incorrect wiring Faulty wires Completely blown speakers User error Or faulty equipment.

Corosion in cylinder
l75eya replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's an EA81? Put it back together and start it up. That'll fix it. I'm here all night! =P -
Live and learn! Stop hording all the Subarus and give me one already lol

Hey! You're not too far from me. Got a friend in Pitt. and would love to check out your BRAT one day when I'm in town. It looks great with those tires on there, also rare to see a hard-top. Most seem to be T-Tops. And, if you ever want to sell it.. =P haha Nice rig!

Here's a rough and dirty guide to the process of replacing it too, if you're interested. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/124630-oil-pump-replacement-brief-guide-just-as-brief-pictures/?do=findComment&comment=1052476

Just checked on Ebay and I don't see any kits with the seals for a reasonable price. Just gotta keep a look out. You can search for ea82 oil pump, subaru gl oil pump, and subaru loyale oil pump. Make sure you read the details, and if it has a picture the oil pump will look like the pictures in the thread I posted here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/124398-reassurance-thread-oil-pump-and-one-question/

Hood Cable Replacement and you! 56K no-no
l75eya replied to 86 Wonder Wedge's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've had two 3 feet long pieces of Romex electrical wire (black and white) tucked into the lower valence of the Loyale for 2 years now since the hood cable broke. To open the hood simply hook the wires from inside the valence with my pinky, slight tug to the right and the hood pops, and tuck the wires back in. Ordering a hood cable and installing it and what-not, that's all the ghetto way to do it. Just do it right the first time and throw some wire in there. =P Hehe, just kidding. To each their own of course! I don't mind having my hood ghetto rigged but that's not the case for all. Nice write-up!- 10 replies

Northwet, are you saying that if your speedometer is not functioning then your vehicle is also not receiving any type of VSS signal? If so, I stand corrected.
-
Actually I'd recommend just replacing the whole pump. That's what I did on mine. I found it for like 70 bucks on ebay with the seals too. Wouldn't hurt to do the water pump too, but, hey, you never know. The original one might go for another 200,000 miles.

Pretty sure the speedometer you read to gauge the speed of the vehicle, and the way the car's computer reads the speed of the vehicle are two different entities. Your speedo gauge is just a cable that runs to the transmission. There's probably a separate sensor entirely for the ECU to know vehicle speed. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure that this is how it is.

A--90's is good. You were almost there! Ran out of slope? B--I completely understand that. Acceleration difference would be pretty subtantial lol. C--A long downward slope. Probably a pretty good tail-wind too. I can't remember if I was making it scream in 3rd or winding it out in 4th, but she got up to 105. I have a picture of that somewhere. I also have a picture of my g/f's 3AT Loyale doing 100. When the car is parked and I look at it and think about how I've been inside it while it was travelling at these speeds, I remind myself of the lunatic I am. I don't think they ever intended for our vehicles to do much more than 80 lol

Welcome! Glad you found our community, really great place here. What a gem you've got there, 30k original? Wow. I picked our two up with 46k and 52k respectively. Just so you know, if it's got the push-button 4wd system, the auto tranny is a 3-speed. Don't get worried when you hop on the highway and the engine is revving at 4,000 rpms when you're doing 65. That's normal. Check all your fluids. Oil, tranny, gear, brake, coolant, etc. It may only have 30k miles on it but there's a chance some of those fluids have been in there for 25 years now. Never hurts. NGK plugs and wires are the best things you can put on that engine. Just wait till winter when you gotta get somewhere in some thick snow! -

Nearest junkyard with a 4WD GL last time I checked was 6 hours out in Pennsylvania. Also, don't have $50 to spare right now lol. I'll take another look at it and see what I can do. Thanks for all the suggestions. -

Good call on the backing plate. I should check that out. I can run the wheel with no axle stub in it? What do I do, just pop the axle nut off and take out the roll pin and tap the cup out....what keeps the bearings together and what-not? I'll take a look at it all tomorrow and see what I can do; should be warmer, not to mention I was busy running around all day today. Thanks NW! -
I had asked the same questions when the Loyale we have developed the tick. We went a good 5-6,000 miles with it ticking pretty bad, and it's when the lady was doing clinicals so she was running it on the highway every day. Changed the oil pump as soon as we could and all was well.
