  1. and since were starting from scratch we can build it without the production compromises. I find this intriguing. the car im picturing is the typical pikes peak space frame with no bodywork, low center of gravity, super lightweight and fun. Open Wheel The traditional racecar on Pikes Peak. They're appearance ranges from an Indy Car style to a dune buggy. Open wheel cars have competed in every Pikes Peak International Hill Climb since the first race in 1916. This is a very fast division. The Open Wheel record, 10:05.85 (Robby Unser, 1994) is less than two seconds off the overall record of 10:04.06 (Rod Millen, 1994.)
  2. land cruisers around here suffered the rust death long ago. or at least the interesting ones. if the subaru powertrain is going to be used how about the other way? as in lightweight fast car? sorta like a cheap mans Aerial Atom? use the full time 4x4 transmission, and just build a performance car around it.
  3. if I was doing this and it had to be subaru powered id use a 6 cyl engine for the little extra grunt. prabably use a regular transmission with adapter instead of the subaru one for the simplicity. front axle would sit in front of the engine or at least below the front pulley. use either toyota transfer case or samauri one. front and rear axles from 79-85 toyota pickup on a 4 link.
  4. I see several things i dont like in that pic suspension travel looks VERY limited why not take advantage of the fact its tube frame and get some real off road tyres instead of those ATV things? approach angle isnt so good ground clearance doesnt look any better than a stock jeep (those low profile tyres are the culprit) that front skid plate isnt doing squat if its not protecting the underside of the engine
  5. im afraid that your paint is surely faded a bit by now and factory paint prabably wont match what you have.
  6. eh its just a 2wd car hard to get emotional over.
  7. im doing the same. so far i installed a new custom exhaust, plugs wires cap rotor, tyres, KYB struts, I bought the gasket kit so im going to fix the engine leaks (i swear EVERY damn seal leaks) waiting on warmer weather for that. timing belts are here, prabably getting it painted and a new windsheild. I had the dent guy take care of all the dents already. I restuffed the drivers seat, i used about 2 yards of batting, i should have used more i think.
  8. eh just get some tubing and a bender and make your own sheet metal intake
  9. I have this kind on my jeep and its horrid if it gets muddy I have to sit there and hose it out for it to work again. it was never the same after the first time either.
  10. i have the kyb's. the front could use a little stiffer spring, but they are great over rough terrain. sachs/boge also makes them for subarus. has anyone tried them?
  11. im lost. do you mean the wastegate have its seprate exhaust?
  12. yeah i already had the dent guy fix up my car, looks tons better without the hail damage
  13. im considering having my car painted black, no cheap maaco paint either. either that or that shade of blue that subaru rallye cars are painted. anyone have pics of black EA82 wagons?
  14. thats a good way to bend a rod. you should take the plugs out and crank the engine over to spit the water out first. water isnt compressible
  15. depends how deep the scratches are. if they are very minor then its possible to buff them out with http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/showCustom-0/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2000754/c-10101/p-2000754/Ne-600001209/N-111+600001209/tf-Browse/sct-body/s-10101/th-StoreCatalogDisplay/ss-10101
  16. once in a while ill drive it at 5000 rpm for a few miles to clean things out.
  17. best i ever had was 36 and it stayed that way for a few weeks. hot weather and all highway.
  18. for all i know the timing marks wont be there so you will need to scribe them or something.
  19. I notice less mpg over no muffler at all and its slightly louder than stock if i remember right, but by no means loud! it seemed to move the power band down a little over no muffler at all.
