Sudden Loss Of Power!!!
ccrinc replied to MyLegacyIsDoomed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt could definitely be the ignition switch. Heck, some of the electrics on these things are so weird...one example I know of is to turn on the lighted vanity mirror on passengers side and the tranny will act up...every time! The End of an era for the NY/NE area
Sympathies from all of us at CCR. As I know all too well, though the shock of sudden death hurts us a lot, watching a good friend/family member through a long illness is worse for both. Remember him as he was, and honor him in your memories. Emily

What The Heck!
Mitsu also makes practically all the internals for all the automatic transmissions out there, just different style cases. (At least for the Japanese cars). Wouldn't be surprised at how many are running around in US cars either, not counting the rebadged stuff like Dodge Neons, etc. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

ccrinc replied to Meeky Moose's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLook on top of the tranny for a sticker with a long number. Should be like TZXXXXXXXXXXX. If you email me the number, I can look it up and tell you. The only other way is to take the darn thing out and count the teeth on ring and pinion gears. ccrinc replied to Meeky Moose's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYa think? Mine is black with gray leather interior, 110K miles on the odo. A Legacy tranny won't interchange. A Legacy turbo will, unless you have the 3.545 gear ratio. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

After rebulding the tranny and a major reseal on the engine, I got new Yokohama YK420s on mine. My only gripe to date: where's the dang cup holder???? Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

removing rust from chrome trim rings
Boy, don't you guys ever scrub pots and pans? Scotchbrite has several no-scratch fake steel wool pads that will do the trick and won't scratch the metal much, if at all. You can find them in grocery stores, Home Biggies, Walmart, etc. Doesn't have to be the Scotch brand: just look in the home stuff section for non-scratch pads. Incidentally, we use them at the shop for taking the final little bit of sealer off aluminum mating surfaces like block halves. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

What should I do.???????
ccrinc replied to 98legacywv's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGood bet it's your power steering fluid leaking. Especially if it was filled recently. Smells just like oil burning when it drips on the exhaust manifold. And if it is, just let it run a bit low and don't worry about it. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Matching Cars! NEW SVX. Wooohooooo!!!
I bought me a beautiful '92 SVX, black with grey leather interior. A perfect match for my '92 Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon LE (also black). Sweeet!! Of course, I now also own the two most difficult, hair tearing, ratchet throwing, sailor swearing cars to work on. Good thing my other half is the Subaru Genius, eh? As of today, the SVX came in to not only get the transmission rebuilt (shift kid modification, of course) but a complete engine rebuild too! Why not? It needs a tuneup, and a rebuild isn't that much more trouble. So, watch out there guys! I'm on a roll!! Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Info On Misfire Codes
Just heard about this recently, and from the amount of misfire problems I'm seeing here, want to pass it on. Seems there is a "phantom" problem with the later model EJ25 ECUs. Most consistent symptom is an engine which runs perfectly, but will throw a cylinder 3 or 4 misfire code every couple of weeks, usually right after doing 65-70mph and letting off gas. Disconnect battery, reset ECU, runs fine for couple of weeks and poof! suddenly you have a misfire code and a flashing CEL. Here's what I've been told by one of the best diagnostic/electronic guys in the business, Greg at Strictly Automotive in Denver, CO. Nobody, especially Subaru, knows why this is happening. The only permanent cure he knows of is to have the ECU reprogrammed. I understand that there is a company or 2 in California that do this, but I have no idea who they are. The other possibly less expensive and maybe easier cure would be to find a used ECU with the same part number. The only problem is: how do you know that the "new" doesn't have the same "phantom"? You can throw money at it, try to diagnose it, but if you've addressed the obvious problems and it's still happening, then you have the "phantom gremlin" in your ECU. Not sure if this is a help or another monkey wrench to throw into you guys who are having this problem. :-\ Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

New motor in and running, in a crappy way
Joel, We'll be back Monday and we'll be in touch to figure out what's going on here. Is it still idling rough? Or is the lifter ticking the only problem now? Sometimes a lifter will not want to pump up. If that's the problem, driving it is the best thing for it. Either way, we'll contact you. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

New motor in and running, in a crappy way
OK, first, by your description of how you set up timing, you're one tooth off on the distributor (practically guaranteed). Second, drain out that synthetic immediately and replace with regular oil! (I thought we discussed that). The engine parts will NOT seat properly and your lifters will not pump up using synthetic oil. Wait until you have about 10,000 miles on it before going back to synthetic. I know the stuff is expensive, but you're hurting the engine by using it at this point. (Didn't read your break in tips, did you? ) Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Outback Viscous coupling

Are you pointless and stupid?? Sorry man...couldn't resist. It's been one of those days. People who badmouth aren't worth paying attention to. Besides, they can only make you feel like that if you let them. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Tool set recomendations
ccrinc replied to Tom Dunn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHome Depot also has some decent, reasonably priced sets.
