VW strut inserts 2.0
Not atll am I saying to go buy coilovers. You are correct about the handling. I simply say SLEEVE the original insert with a BODY of a strut. The way it SHOuLD be done. The actual act of cutting into/burning the oil in the strut is the issue for me really. I just don't want some kid getting this idea and burning his codswalloping face off when he reads this as "tech". And as far as sketchy goes, I have reednecked the hell out of some spoob .On Subaru's even. AND put others in danger.BUT have learned the error of my ways. I HAVE WELDED TO STRUT BODIES AND DONE IT SUCCESSFULLY. BUTTTTTT.I also did it with very little heat intrusion. With short circuit welding, on the second layer of the housing off a lip sticking out from the body of the strut. The welding he describes above my post is ridiculous. The seals inside are most likely rubber and viton, or a like derivative. The heat from the strut tube itself is what destroys those seals. Not the heat from the oil.The oil simply degrades itself, it does not melt the seals. This is simply not the proper way of doing it. AT ALL.Dangerous for you to do, for me to do, and for anyone standing around. Not to mention ridiculously stupid to get 1" of travel. Look, I know I am an antagonist.I like it that way.BUT, I don't want tech that is not tech ruining someones life because of some dumbass that is just convinced that he can engineer a strut because he THINKS he understands it. That is all....

Just taking a look. Figured that I would start cycling the front suspensio, and realized I wasna done with my rear Diff.Gotta get the rear on tires again before I am comfortable stretching her out. Sourced my bearings for the spool swap. Got the back lash set then started trying to make a pattern.Well.damnit.I can be retarded sometimes.TO much paint. DOH!!! I will go home today and clean it up, then run it and figure it out. LOL cheers

Super beetle struts?
He has a lot of assumptions......Like thinking he can tune shocks ,or thinking he can weld. These will not work worth a spoob, then he'll ask why we think it didna work... dumbass FOR ANYONE READING THIS, THIS IS NOT SAFE TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!! TUNING SHOCKS IS A FINE SCIENCE.ONE THAT OUR OP IS ASSUMING IS EASY.IT IS DANGEROUS AND STUPID .

I got pretty far today. First , I set her on her own weight. Then I put the knuckles on the axle, wheel bearings , etc. So I could hang some tires. Now that's an approach angle:) Overall, pretty solid cheers

Super beetle struts?
Yeah, In your mind. It is a sealed cartridge for a reason. It's just not that simple. The task at hand ,that is.

Super beetle struts?
I really wanted to try an help. But that is the dumbest thing you could have done. I would start over. Welding flange metal (like double layered, sticking out and away from strut body) is one thing. But directly to the strut body is foolish. Especially if you can't even control your welding heat properly. The ONLY possible way to do it safely is not do it. This is not even going to damper besides what the spring will accomplish now. You just ruint your strut. Go buy another strut ,And some tube, then cut and paste.

I also am ready to build (have materials now)a skid plate mount/t-case mount. I can get ready to fully test suspension here real soon. I have had several moments of doubt during this entire situation. However times are looking up, and I am enjoying the time I get to spend on it. I think I can get the front straightened out pretty quick here, now that the base measurements have worked out. I was slightly retarded because I forgot to put the plumb bobs down before I cut the front of the frame off.DOH!!!

Super beetle struts?
Except , the Super Beetle struts are inserts. You need the VeeWee strut body to weld to. Seriously? Did you not get the "insert" part? Once again. NO pics. How do you expect people to help you with no reference of what you are doing. The smaller struts were what was used to insert into the existing bodies. IIRC..... You are actually better off buying tube and mounting the bottoms of the struts to it. And make spring perches. And, AND, AND.,.,.,,,, THen make a collar to hold the strut in the body threaded on the top. Please don't do spoob if your gonna put others in danger.
