I went to the exhaust shop this arvo to check out some prices for my exhaust and the guy there said "You wont gain any more power by changing the two pipes between the heads and the cat. the factory setup is as good as it can get. Your only way to gain power is to go 2" or 2.5" cat back to gain about 6% power and add a hi-flo cat to gain 10%" Is this true? ... 1... A hi-flo cat and 2" back will gain me 16% power 2... The stock 'head to Y pipes' cant be changed to equal length to gain more power. Dont your Aftermarket header pipes for the Turbo have equal length to gain more power? Thanks to anyone who can shine a little light on this subject:confused:

adding another fuel filter before the carb

Finer as in smaller holes in the filter materal and will let less dirt through. -
adding another fuel filter before the carb
ausubaru92 replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im not an expert on this but in my opinion, the second fuel filter would have to be a finer filter, its pointless filtering something twice with the same size filter and then why not just replace the factory one with a finer one -
installing aftermarket tachometer
ausubaru92 replied to avatar382's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I my Gregories manual, one of the yellow wires to the back of the instrument panel goes from the ignition coil to the tach, but thats for my wagon, it mite be different for the XT -
Why do people hate Loyales?
ausubaru92 replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What exactly is a Loyale??? In Oz we have GL, DL, and Touring Wagons (i assume is equiv to the gl10) Leones are the Sedans with ea82 I have not yet seen a Hatch here in the ea82 style -
Weathershield for me Wagon ???
ausubaru92 replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Unfortunately those cars mean nothing to me, i have never heard of them. (in Australia) Does anybody have them or have seen them? Do they have to be a special design or could ones off a car with door frames be modified to fit? Please help cos i Love the Wind in my Hair -
Is it possiable to get a weathershield to fit the L series wagons? When i drve with my window open in the rain, water is sucked into the cabin and its very annoying:banghead: I assume it would be a different design seing that the windows have no rims. I was looking along the lines of a sport type, (the slim-line ones, not the ones that cover half the window) Has anyone got them???

Please educate me on EA82 wagons.
ausubaru92 replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My wagon is a 92 and it has D/R.I love D/R on dirt roads,.. cos most of the time i cant drive more than 70km\h on them, but in low range, the gears are more useable when driving at the reduced speed:brow: -
Carb to EFI conversions

can a spfi be turbo'd??? Is the instrument cluster connections different between ones with a tach and those without? ie. DL and GL -
I am seriously considering re-fabricationg my Y pipes but would like to know what would be the best revs range to tune it to Ive been told to make the Y with sliding pipes and with the car running at a set revs setting, change the length of the pipes until the revs increase (caused by tuned scavanging of the exhaust) Would I be best off with the revs in the range of cruising at 100km/h in 5th (I dont have a Tach) or should I be in a lower gear/ higher revs? BTW, At 100km/h in 5th, what revs does your ea82 5sp d/r do??? Thanks

Another Soob Movie Star
ausubaru92 replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I saw it too, i was just about to write a post about it myself:brow: But i think i actually saw 2 soobs in the movie,.. i think the other one was when they were following his wife's car through the city, but not too sure, it was quick (unlike my wagon) -
The paint on the roof is developing white patches (my wagon is Burgandy, i think) it seems to get worse after its been in hot sun all day. i can scratch it with my fingernails and pink-ish dust comes off What causes this and how is it fixed? I also have a few small surface rust spots (from rock chips i assume) that i wanna fix before they get to drastic, whats the best way to do it? What is the name of my paint colour? how can i find it? (actual name, not number) Thanks guys

Carb to EFI conversions
ausubaru92 replied to swervey87gl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about MPFI, i assume its a whole engine swap or a least a head swap Did they have SPFI in Australia? cos on the underside of my bonnet it has a sticker for the ignition timing,.. it has carb, mpfi and mpfi turbo.... no mention of spfi???? I too are interested in the swap, and also was thinking of how easy it mite be to put the ecu under the bonnet -
Check your model years!

My rego says 93,(prob when first registered) but it was manufactured August 92 -
Have any of you Aussie fellows done this conversion, what cars are recomended for this conversion? How much is it likely to cost Are there any wrecking yards that actually let people inside to browse the cars?

FT4WD 5sp to fit ea82 wagon in Aust?
ausubaru92 posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What are the chances of finding a FT4WD 5sp in Australia (do they come in D/R?) do they exist for the ea82? What mods would i have to do to put one in a wagon? What are my optons if i want FT4WD or AWD? BTW,.. Guess what i saw yesterday.................. A Brumby with a honda sticker on the rear glass, maybe he can be forgiven cos it was a motorbike sticker -
Just curious,... if efi is more effecient,.. which means less fuel is used per Km,.. how does it yeald more power??? What is the power difference between the stock ea82 carb, and the ea82 with the SPFI mod? I am considering the SPFI,... just have to find one (preferably cheap )

I wouldn't run coolant through your aircon condenser, its not designed for water coolant. My thoughts,... remove aircon condenser (air restriction), attach extra electric fan, possiably on front of ratiator, (make sure it pushes the air the right way), and use it to pull in extra air while you are driving slow or whateva (im kinda hijacking here but...) my temp gauge never rises above 1/4 scale but engine runs at a normal hot temp is this a problem in my temp sensor or gauge?

all you ea81 guys, who think you have 150hp
ausubaru92 replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about ea82? What horsepower can an ea82 achieve from simple/cheap mods like intake & opening up the exhaust (i mean without a turbo or webber carb ect) Ignition.... i see new engines (ej22 included) have a seperate coil per cylinder? Does this achieve anything? I think the key to rams high power is tuned intake and exhaust because they utilise the benifits of sonic pulses, extraction and scavanging of the pipes We only need to know the sizes of their pipes and surely it could help us gain a little more its worth a try -
Well, another dumb question from me--the efi
ausubaru92 replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont have efi,. but i guess this is air duct DUCT TAPE FIXES EVERYTHING:brow: -
Try the Filter capacitor on the alternator itself, also make sure your grounding is very good,

Help With Charging Problem? (!!!!SOLVED!!!!)
ausubaru92 replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In an ea82 car,... the Black/White & the White wires from alternator come from alt then to the fuseable links and then to battery. The White/Red goes to fuse box then to dash for the Warning light The ea81 alt, White goes to Battery. Black & White/Black & Yellow go to regulator. and thats all i know Do u have fuseable links,. check these. IMO, The warning light should not affect charging From your alt. Thick white to battery via fuseable link (marked 1.25, i doubt this is amperage rating, prob wire gauge) Black/White from T connector to fuseable link marked 0.5 (same reason as above) then to battery. White/Red to fuse (15amp) then to Warning light... (which i assume is grounded) Hope this shines light on your problem:D -
83 dl intermittent power loss
ausubaru92 replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
By 'condenser' i assume you mean the coil (condenser is another name for capacitor) You should be able to find the coil by following the middle HT lead from the distributor. usually it is attached nearby to the frame or wheel arch -
