  1. Its an 83. It used to be an ea81T wagon but I converted it. Theres a code in memory but not actively turning the ECS light on (check engine light).
  2. My 83 wagon with EJ22 swap does this: Code 31 in memory, and is the only code. When you drive the car it idles BEAUTIFULLY. When you put a load on it while driving it will lurch, want to die and occasionally stall if you aren't careful. It doesnt seem to want to be pushed hard in acceleration either, it will rev to like 3250 or so and then past that it runs weird as well, almost acting like it isn't getting fuel. I have yet to be able to rev it under load to 5000 RPM....And I would like to! LOL. I do have the really rare throttle body with the adjustment screw on it...for idle I think so I think it probably idles well because that screw overrides the TPS?
  3. That doesnt make the displacement 23.5 its still a 2.5. The real hybrid build is done by stroking the engine. Its a nifty combo of crank and rods along with different pistons (move wrist pin up on the piston position accordingly).
  4. Right on the wiring wrong on the interference. 96 is the change year to interference. All Subaru engines except the EG33(SVX) are starting with that year.
  5. Damn cool I was wondering about this myself. On my ea81T (originally--conv to EJ22) wagon my stock fuel pump has what looks like a regulator right next to the fuel pump. It has a bolt that looks adjustable on it. Tonight I removed that part and put 5/8 EFI rated hose between the pump outlet and the metal line running up to the engine. My battery on the car is dead (currently charging) but as soon as I can get the car to start and drive I will let you know. The pumps I just got at the junkyard from 85-92 MPFI and turbo cars did not have this part on them. The 86 one had the bigger pump like my ea81T had and the 93 had a smaller pump but again no (regulators) on either one.
  6. Having issues with it dying under load. Acts like the fuel pump isn't pumping enough. Gotta test it and get a few miles under the belt. 90 miles logged so far. Pics to come.
  7. Much thanks to KBD for all the great pics and Video of Adam's hatch. Glad somebody brought a camera cuz my weaksauce ____ forgot to.
  8. Finally drove it up and down the street tonight. Temp tags, ins, and alignment tomorrow if I can pull it off I will take it for the snow run this weekend. Purchased 1 day after WCSS3 in 2001. EA81T---->Ej22 3AT 4wd--->4spd D/R--->3.7 RX FT4wd trans 3" PK/BYB---->4" frame lift kit Drum-->Disc brakes rear 1 pc driveshaft Heat baked torn up stock seats--->Saturn front seats Pushbutton AM/FM---->Pioneer CD player No power windows to power to not powered again. Has been worked on in WA, 3 places in Iowa, 2 places in Colorado...towed approx 5K miles. Still to go: Dual range lever diff lock switch tidy up wiring rats nest under dash EMISSIONS "sad panda"
  9. Bellhousings arent 100% swappable so make sure you have one that fits the trans type on the car you are dumping it into. I think its a good swap. Not a fast one but a reliable one.
  10. The DL 2wd's dont fit the others. THe disc is smaller and the input shaft is sometimes as well. All the 4wd's are the same 85-94. The XT6 is slightly different. Make sure you don't get one for an ea81 as the throwout bearing and pressure plate dont work with the fork and flywheel right.
  11. Sounds good and kindof similar to my project wagon. Lotsa stuff to do and it gets to a snag and you switch to another part and ponder the snag while you do...hit another snag, repeat... Take it from me focus on completing one little phase at a time and it goes alot faster.
  12. I like the PDF alot. I have to comment on the flex hose thing though. Napa sells 2 kinds of flex hose. One has coiled wire inside the center of the hose and regular rubber hose on the ends. THe other kind they sell is an RV/boat type hose that I think is suited for submersion or something special but its an absolute &$^%@ to work with. The writeup indicates that the flex hose is not flexible enough for a lifted rig but that'd only be true on the 2nd type of hose im talking about. The ones that are PERFECT are the ones that are flex in the middle only and are all different lengths and they have some with different size ends.
  13. All are welcome. Its deep but its travelled and won't be a problem for you.
  14. Sounds like Sunday works. Big announcer voice: "Sunday SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!! The fastastar liftedestar most Subiest ar Subaru's EXPLODE on your screen!!!!" Stock rigs will be fine for any of this but any additional mods can be utilized along the way at various points. Get your snow tires out lets do it up right. Slightly different route than previous snow trips but same destination at Caribou ok with everybody? Meet at 7/11 on Highway 93 that is just north of Highway 6/93 intersection at 9:45AM, leaving by 10AM? Nederland for Pizza at Noon, return via Boulder whenever you wish to leave Caribou.
  15. Do these dates work for anybody? My coworker Adam and I finished a project of his and we want to take it up to play. Car is 84 GL hatch with 93 Legacy Ej22 engine and transmission.
  16. Ive seen 3 very early ea81 ("gen2") cars that had the deeper glovebox. They were all models that did not have the emblem on the climate controls indicating they were equipped for addition of A/C. I tried to install the deeper glovebox and it wouldnt work in my a/c optional car...it was HUGE too would have really been nice to have.
  17. I rebuild these things for a living and the ej22 cranks and engines are one of the toughest in the Subaru lineup. You are hereby officially warned. Get some first hand facts, read Genuine Subaru manuals, talk to Subaru technicians....SOMETHING!!! Guit guessing, speculating or otherwise imagining facts about things you have no first hand knowledge about. And please quit whining about users picking on you...they are doing so because you make stuff up! Have you even driven one of these cars!?!? They make the Loyale seem like a brick on wheels handling and power wise. The timing belt design is superior, the cams being...uhm...built into the heads instead of in a CAM TOWER, are much nicer design....you are making my brain hurt with these posts. The Turbo BLOCK is amazing. Its impossible to argue with closed deck, oil squirters and the 2.2L displacement. But the hoses, plastic pieces, coolant fill tank and 4eat transmission that needs a rebuild every 100-135K miles (in a turbo car), and lack of stock intercooler on the ej22 turbo cars are an absolute pain in the butt at this age in the vehicles' life. They did a much better job on the WRX engine layout and its obvious when you pop the hood on both cars.
  18. Probably going to try to do something every month, to the point that maybe people could request time off a few weeks in advance, or plan on it better too. DrKrazy would you be able to come on a Saturday if you knew about it a month ahead of time? Every meet we have somebody asks me where Keith is..is why I ask.
  19. Surprised nobody has suggested a Miles Fox edition set.
  20. I like that it doesnt show me stuck and a micrometer from a Toyota.
