EGR Light came on
Alright so I braved the 20 degree morning and switched 'em blue/blue to blue/green and it went out. Final question do I just leave 'em like this or switch them back? If I switch them back the light comes back on.

XT6 questions
Great car. Just make sure everything seems to work like any other car. PS is an issue but usually is just the brushes. $15 from Anthony's Subaru in British Col. About $80 here at your dealer. Check out the XT6 org site or the yahoo group for more info. I tried to paste in the links but it wouldn't work. Oh yeah check the underside of the doors, front frame rail (right under your feet sitting in the front) and the rocker in front of the back wheel (where it is covered by the mud flap thang for rust just like any other vintage subie.

EGR Light came on
Cool, I never even thought of that. Makes sense though. I was actually amazed the light worked though. I'll check it in the am. Does the car need to be running when I do it?

EGR Light came on
Funny you should ask. It just hit 180k around when it came on (or at least when I saw it on the trip). Any idea what I need to do?

Does this mean I need a new EGR valve? Ideas on diagonosis for an 86 Brat.

I was just up at EZ Pull (New Ringgold today). It rocked!!! Still have 10 or so XTs, couple Turbos with spiders, an XT6, lots of EA-82 (1/2 turbos) including an RX that looks pretty complete and maybe 8 EA-81s. Justy's galore INCLUDING one with PERFECT FRONT SEATS!!!!! Nothing newer than a gen 1 Legacy though. I picked up an XT6 radio, the console trim (WITHOUT A CRACK IN IT), the steering column cover, another trip computer, 4 factory XT floormats and an alternator all for $30. The guy I was with picked up 4 nice 13 inch alloys for $60. Prices rock compared to Harry's as does the selection. They even have a $10 lot that you can take anything you can carry out! There is also an auction next Saturday so moosens will be leaving there in a beautiful Teal Justy with graffics on the side for $115. I'm busy until like 1 but might meet you at EZ if you go that route. MUCH BETTER THAN HARRY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can I use an H6 oil filter in the H4 ?
benebob replied to boxerhummfetish's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot sure on the 3rd Gen H6 but the first and second use virtually the same filter as the 4 cylinder. Not sure the dif for the XT6 2.7 but the SVX's is the same size and shape. The difference is there is a valve which keeps the oil from draining back so it is always full. If you go to an autoparts store though it'll list the same oil filter as the Legacy or EA82 for both the XT6 and SVX

New Outback--wait for 2005 model
benebob replied to jim martin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCouldn't have said it better Josh! Next time (if I stick with Subaru once all the old ones rust away) I'll definately check the whole thing out rather than assume that Subaru built a good one like I did when we got our Legacy. I didn't even get behind the wheel. My wife did but I know how they drive. A 3 mile loop in traffic wasn't gonna do anything for me.

New Outback--wait for 2005 model
benebob replied to jim martin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou're kidding right? Honda minimizes orange peel. Toyota does. Heck Chevy is doing a great job of minimizing it today. Wait Subaru does a great job of it too, well at least in JAPAN. Even a blind man can tell there is a difference in US and Jap made subaru quality. Color matching plastic to metal isn't rocket science and yes BMW does a great job at it. As does Toyota, Honda and Chrysler (wait they all inject their plastics with color). Just as was done 15 years ago on the SVX.

New Outback--wait for 2005 model
benebob replied to jim martin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDid I mention the orange peel paint on mine??? It really isn't that noticable since the color of the body panels beside the bumper covers isn't quite the same. I'd be happy if it was built as good as a Jap. Subie then I wouldn't get irritated about my fellow Americans every time I wash the Legacy.

New Outback--wait for 2005 model
benebob replied to jim martin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPersonally, I don't think poor fit and finish (my Brat with nearly 200k is still put together more precise) nor orange peel should be acceptable on a 10k car let alone a 26k. Subaru seems to want to go upscale with the new Legacy. It will be their downfall unless they get their act together.

New Outback--wait for 2005 model
benebob replied to jim martin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs a disappointed 03 Legacy GT owner I say forget the Legacy and get a Forester or Impreza. If Subie can't have exceptional quality on a line that hasn't had a major redesign in 8 years I would highly doubt that a brand new redesigned 05 model would even come close in the quality aspect. There is more orange peel on our Legacy then a 86 Chevy full size van, its been back to a dealer now 6 times (soon to be 7) for a bad manual tranny, a non working cd player and various other things. I never had any trouble on a Japanese made model so unless there is an 05 version made in Japan I'd shy away.

400 hp xt6 tranny?
??? The SXV and the XT6 have the same trans. Of course the SVX version has more clutch packs but in reality they come from the same family as does all Impreza and Legacy slushes in the US. In fact the Easy Street Impreza has a slushbox with SVX gears if i remember right.

XT6 Brakes
Keep turning Dave it'll go in. Its a real pain to get it in w/o tearing the boot though.

Eastern PA Yard Run/Meet before the snow??
Having been to Harry's and EZ Pull w/in the last month or so EZ Pull rocks with EA-81 and has a fair selection of EA-82s (esp turbos) and not really anything newer than 90-91 Harry's has a ton of EA-82s, sucks for EA-81s and has a fair amount of Legacy's

Hitachi rebuilding? Where to buy a kit?
No problems with it running after the rebuild. Only thing was it took some time to get the idle mixture right.

Hitachi rebuilding? Where to buy a kit?
I rebuilt mine when I bought my BRAT based totally on the directions in the Haynes book. I had no problems what-so-ever doing it even though I had never taken apart/have a clue how the carb works. Just followed the directions and put everything in baggies I numbered based on the numbers in the book. Then put it back together using the new stuff. Took me about 3-4 hours plus time to let the parts soak in carb cleaner.

JDM SVX Tranny ratio
benebob replied to Dr. RX's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDid they also tell you about the twin turbo police version in Japan? Not positive as I've never been to Japan but they are the same from every other country. Seems very wasteful and not very Japanese like for Subie to make 2000 with a different tranny. Wanna know for sure ask on http://www.subaru-svx.net.

Considering buying an Outback, need feedback
benebob replied to Mbrooks's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds like someone misses his pushrod? Good luck Paul Hogan. Just kidding man. Don't give up. My Brat has sounded like it was gonna die for 20 years now. It didn't as it is a subaru. Maybe changing your trannsmission fluid every 15k would be a recommendation I would have on any vehicle you buy. Exploders don't have that great of a rep for eating trannys. Best of luck in your search.

Thermostat postion
I just put two winter thermostats in my Brat and XT today. Followed the Clymer manual on the XT and put it with the toggle thingie on the bottom. After I put it in and sealed it went to the Brat and the toggle was on the top so I checked out my H.T.K.S.Alive book and it said to put the toggle thingie on the top. What is the difference? Anybody know what the darn thing is for anyway? Xt seems to run just fine. A good bit warmer now (had a 180 degree in there for summer and with the cold weather coming it doesn't want to stay warm).

Coolant leaking between Intake Manifold and Engine
Mike, I'm guessing it isn't overheating. How does the thermostat housing look? How about the gasket between the engine and the manifold? There is a coolant hose that runs by there on EA-82 engines but I think it is just there on carbed engines.
