Removing and replacing thread stripped bolts
MorganM replied to dbasch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If possible it would be much easier to just use a slightly longer bolt, a nut and lock washer on the other end and just clamp it down good. Otherwise yo uare going to need to drill it out to the diamiter you want, buy a dap/die tool set, tap threads into your hole and then you can thread in a bolt. -
Doesnt sound too unresonable to me. Road around with a kid in an EA82 GL sedan with a 3AT. Seemed to do about the same. Also seemed like a really really crappy transmission It worked fine but it was loud, overworked, and extra slow. You only have 3 'gears' so its going to wind that last one up till you redline Peace

I like Seafoam. Nothing fancy or Mysteriouse about it. It's just Isopropol Alcohol. Works good in your cars orfaces !_!

Pretty sick man, I like it. How do you pronounce... UTES ? YOU-tees ? OO-tees ? YOUts ? -
VERY resionably priced! I was jus talking to a guy on base the other day. He has a Geo Tracker with 6" lift. He was talking about how CHEAP this Tracker is and how CHEAP stuff for it was. So I asked how much it was to get a 1990 or 91 Tracker and he said about $1500 then I asked how much the lift kit was and he said that was $1000 right there. I KNOW how much his tires were... they were 32" by 11" or 12" TSL Super Swampers which are over $130 each new. So we are talking about $3000 for a tracker, lift and tires. This was not including the custom work he had done also. Sounds like that 'cheap' Tracker really adds up in the end! But comparing to what he spent on his 'real lifted rig at home' I'm sure he thinks it really is cheap Ozified BYB lift is definatly a good bang for your bucks!

I got mine shipped to me. They came stock on most old Subarus over seas Not just the turbo models either.

Worth a shot; what are you gonna do, breakt it more? lol

Send your son to the junkyard to PULL the replacment engine. Then I'd make him help reseal it / fix anything obviously wrong, install and get it running! Maybe he'll understand how important oil is then I agree with whats said above. If it's truelly siezed you might as well just junk it and start with something a little LESS FUBAR

Valve cover gaskets longevity
MorganM replied to SubaRube's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Talking about the little rubber gaskets between the front and rear covers right? They might be leaking becuase the plastic is deformed over the years. Those things will melt and deform from heat Are any of the bolt threads stripped out not allowing you to torque them all down evenly? That would cuase some gaps in the seal also. This is why I threw mine away Mine had stirpped out threads and were all deformed. -
300 miles on fact. new eng., broke down
MorganM replied to Singlecoil's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Stop scaring the newbs Miles Sounds like someone did all the work for you. If so make them stand by their workmanship, figure out whats wrong and fix it. I'm sure it's something silly. Timing belt as suggested, intake manifold gasket, big vacume leak, or some other stilly thing. Good luck -
anyone run without Tbelt covers? ea82T
MorganM replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have the fronts off and the rears on. Gonna take them all off next time I'm in there Offroad it quite a bit and they stay very clean. Stuff just flings off of them !_! As noted above stuff tends to just collect up in the rear covvers if you dont have all covers on and FULLY secured. -
Major Bummer, lost oil pressure.
MorganM replied to spanky_pete's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You might get away with minimal damage on this yet Maybe in that mud whole you overheated as GD suggests. Also you might have been wiggeling loose the wire to your oil pump sennding unit which would make your oil pressure guage drop. Check her over real good and good luck !_! -
morganm says, "I like mud!_!"
MorganM replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
mud:1 morganm:2 GG !_! I'm still wining Made it through a couple other mud spots but that one just swalloed me up! Big old hole in there I fell into. Felt it drop right in, bottom out and almost made it but slipped back in. Those AT's just turned to slicks in that stuff. note: if you dont make it in 1st low; you will NOT make it out in reverse low! the stupidest part was me trying to back out HAHAHA Learned that lesson hard I spose. Arch might have had a chance pulling me if I was that extra few feet forward as you can see by my tracks in front. I USED to like mud !_! -

MorganM replied to spanky_pete's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Drain the oil and see if any fun supprises come out That will be a good indicator of any severe internall damage. Change the oil and the filter ASAP. Seems to me if you totaly locked the engine that you would hear some funny knocking and clacking when you started her back up again. How did she sound and perform when you got her back running? -
FLOW: What is that funny little vacume canister behind tehf an relay? Nice to know finally what that fuse and relay there is fore! Now I just wanna know what the heck that funny little canister behind it is. I wired my fan up just like that diagram from Skip. I eventually just threw the relay in the garbage and wired it up directly to the switch. That got rid of A LOT of extra wires. I figure if the system surges the switch will go out; no big deal =P just get another cheap switch. Havent had a problem yet powred directly from the battery to switch to fan. If the alternator voltage regulator goes bad I might have a toasted switch on my hands tho! lol

Changing the tranny will change the drivetrain to whatever tranny you put in. Put in a Dual Range and you will loose Full Time and gain Dual Range 4WD. PUt in a pushbutton and you will have Single Range 4WD when you push the botton. I have seen a couple other GL turbos with out GL10 packages. Seen a few GL10's with out turbos too. Go figure !_!

EA82 Wagon Rust - Fenders And Behind Rear Wheels
MorganM replied to the_bard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is why all newer subarus had mudflaps! From what I've seen they made the mistake of only putting them on the 4WD models back then. Most that did have flaps were missing one or more. People tended to not replace them when they broke or fell off for whatever reason. They were import crap boxes; nobody really cared much at the time I'm sure -
I was just thinking while driving 6hours in my lifted wagon over the weekend "wish i had an ultimatesubaru.org windshield banner..." Great timing Need to get a 4WD sticker on the back too heh. I like the OEM style one there. Only problem is could I get them all white on black? I painted my wagon black so putting white stickers with black letters looks kinda funny =) I'll email you a detailed request for what I'd like. Thank you!

Hopefully they werent replaced by a previouse owner with some non-adjustab les

buahahahahahahaaaaa that's some funny stuff!

Yeah you really should be able to keep thise little buggers cool with 2 electric fans. If not then I would think there is a problem with the cooling system that needed attention. Only time I needed a clutch fan was when 2 BIG electrics wouldnt kee pa 3 row radiator cool enough for my 472ci. Clutch fan kept her nice and cool; but this was a BIG fan with large metal blades.
