interior design pet peeves

I've found one cup holder in my EA82 GL with 4WD Dual Range 20oz water bottles and most small to medium drink cups fit snug between the seat/4WD shifter/e-brake lever -
Last set I bought were made by Wells; good brand and they were the correct length. At first, as Alleyboy has noted, the boots didnt fit on that tight. Well they have since shrunk up and fit nice I might have to try those NGK ones next; they sound good. Ive used the 8mm custom cut ones noted above; worked great on my 472ci V8. Took a while to cut, boot, and crimp them all however!

I have this style on mine. I also have the described squeeking. Not really concerned about it but thought I'd mention it.

Crawl 4 The Cure; Midwest Charity Offroad Event
MorganM replied to MorganM's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
You know they will film some Subaru's out there! Also free prizes will total in multipule hundreds of dollars. Sure little of it will fit on a Subaru but there's always eBay or you could even sell it off to people there at the event. Here are two examples of big dollar prizes: Those two alone right now add up to about $940 in prizes. Expect some other smaller ticket items too. Like at the anual convention this last weekend I won a free K&N air filter; thats pretty much what I paid for in registering for that event! -
How do I defunctionalize the PCV system?
MorganM replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here's how I routed mine due to blow by. Vent tubes on each rocker cover -> hoses -> T fitting -> single hose out of T fitting to breather/filter. Tucked the breahter down low where air drafts over it. Removed PCV valve from intake manifold and replaced with properly sized and thread pitch bolt from my spare Subaru bolt box. Plugged extra holes in main SPFI snorkel with more spare bolts and tightend the seal with clamps. All hoses are fited with screw down clamps. You could also setup a water/oil seperater canister in line and leave it all hooked up like it should be. However you'll be emptying that canister often! -
When funny noises come up at specific RPMs I usually start looking for something loose. You have some good assumptions to start with there. Check them for sure.

XT turbo/mpfi setup has the injectors right at the base of the intake manifold and shoots pretty much right into the head. There is no fuel shot into the intake manifold on the MPFI engines. You still bring up a valid concern. One thing to do for checking on extreme lean conditions for individual cylinders would be to pull the spark plugs and see if some cylinders are running too lean.

195,000 miles on it 3speed auto Yes, it's going to be slow

Holy carb riser Batman! ... I was just eating my salad here and thinking... Maybe ignition timing might bring back some of that lost response? Just a thought.

Looking at your AC air pump there are two main lines on top. You will see a cap just like the one on your tire's valve stem. Unscrew it and you'll see a shreder valve again just like the one in your valve stem. Using a long screw driver simply touch that needle sticking out for a split second. Either it will let out a short HISS and tell you the system is still under pressure or it will do nothing. It's not under enough pressure to really harm you due to pressure release. The chemicals inside are hazardouse however. If the system is dead then you can just start dissasembeling it as you see fit. If it's still under pressure you would be wise to not discharge it yourself into the atmosphere with your screw driver; but rather have it professionaly discharged. Once the system is properly purged you can start tearing it apart. There's a lot of associated stuff attached to the air pump and condenser.

The engine will force the exhuast out the pipe and exhaust will just bubble upto the surface. This works fine for most of the time. Now if the engine stalls the water is going to rush up the pipe. It's going to look pretty crazy anyway when you are all done. A functional exhuast and intake snorkel wouldnt be bad. Will some assume its all show and no go? Sure... untill you hit the water!

Rusted Floors - Trials and Tribulations

I just put my floor mats over them -

I'd put on an exhuast snorkel that keeps it above the water line.

I can already tell you its not free Borrowing a truck is free if someone can kick it down to yout but a tow dolly is $35/day around here and gas isnt cheap. $150 for head gaskets; $400 for a new head if it really needs one ($160 for a remaned head). Who knows what else is wrong with it if they overheated it real bad. In for a project car?
-
Subarus sink! Start with a completly unrested one. That will help with the water sealing for sure. To your question about water fording; no you won't crack a cylinder head or block if the engine is running at normal operating temp.

Do you really need more than a body lift and bigger tires? Advantages: More suspension travel to flex over obsticles. Disadvantages: More stress on CVs and DOJs as you reach maximum up and down travel. More travel means you're going to have to cut those fenders to make room for big tires to stuff up into the fender wells. Gas milage will be negativly impacted. Bigger you go the more gas you use to move those meats.

What: Crawl 4 The Cure http://www.crawl4cure.org/ When: JUL 4 weekend Where: Iron Range Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, Gilbert MN Why: Good times and a great cause! Help fight Multpile Sclerosis by raising pledges to attend the event. Most people know someone, often family like myself and others attending the event, who has MS. Put a smile on their face and yours by being there! Cost: Only $38.50 if you play your cards right! A $50 reservation charge is needed to get you registerd and your spot reserved. A minimum of $200 in pledges from other people and companies is required to attend. If you get $250 or more in pledges your $50 reservation charge is refunded the day of the event! On the website you will find everything you need to know, pledge forms, and taxt deuction recpiets for people who pledge funds to you. There is also a $38.50 OHV registration charge to be in the park but if you get your $250 in pledges then the $50 reimbursed registration fee will cover your OHV sticker! This gets you access to all MN DNR trails in the entire state of MN for three years. Some other places this gets you into would be the Spide Lake OHVRA and hundreds of miles of state forest trails. Out of state? No problem! You can still register and attend the event. There are already several out of state people registerd and will be attending. I know it's a long drive up there but I cant convey strongly enough how worth it this is. I've been to three huge offroad parks now and this one is really top notch in both trail quality and facilities available! Iron Range OHVRA: Here's some more info on the park. National Trails Database submission: http://random.removed.us/tdb/index.php?board=4.0 MN DNR's page: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/iron_range/gilbert/index.html Map of the park: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/outdoor_activities/ohv/ironrange/gilbert/sitemap.pdf disclaimer: No purchese necessary to attend the Iron Range OHVRA on the 4th of July. It's a state ran facility and can not be reserved exclusivly for public events. You can still go there JUL 4th weekend and offroad with out registering with the C4C. However you might get some friendly ribing for not maning up!

That few hundred you mention left over will quickly get sucked up by silly little things that come as you install all those parts you have or have on the way. Stay on the path Wagon Lover! Think you'll have it up and running for the Crawl 4 The Cure event? I'll be there for sure, Archemitis said he'll come, we should have more Subarus up there on JUL 4th! Even if you dont want to raise the $250 charity donation through pledges the park is still open to the public

Single big backfire, rough/no idle
MorganM replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Shot the dips stick accross the shop! WAHOOOO! Did you both look at eachother like ? Might have screwed up that carb if the back fire came up through the intake. Maybe a carb base gasket? INtake gasket (tho you'd prolly get some coolant leakage with that also)? Possibly just cracked a vacume line that looked connected still? Dizzy still maybe a tooth off? The fact it runs okay at higher RPMs is promising Pull your spark plugs and see just how lean it's getting! Good luck Raven
