  1. I"ve seen them made everywhere-China-OF course,Hong Kong,Brazil,Israel,Bangladesh,You get the idea! I think the Japan one"s I.E. Toy,Sub,Hon, O.E. one"s are the best... I"ve had those bad too but rare!

I know the 5spd HI-LO and the pushbutt. wiring IS different-My 90 loy.was pushbutt.and was done before I got it so I have plugs hanging... my 4x lights on dash don"t work Oh well the lever tells me where it"s at. It barely sits long enough for me to change the oil-I"m moving so the 650mi.commute from hell is almost done I rescued the car in july fixed oil leaks,windshield,muffler,time belt broke at 11pm 1night on I:70 threw a spare on to get home next morn.did belts been runnin it"s arse off back an forth to delta,Co.every 4 days:banghead:

  5. I know someone else will chime in on this too...but I think you have to change the ecu and the wire harness for the trans... Is it full time or push button? I think the axles are different too but not sure-I DO NOT like autos-I avoid them like the plague but they ALWAYS have clean bodies because they can"t go anywhere near dirt or a hill-they won"t make it!!   6. Well before you do more of this:banghead: Put thermo in a pan of water-boiling 190-195, if you have a cooking temp gauge in the kitchen-4 meat use that to make sure it works! I just put 1 in my buddies 4runner last winter- He"s really cheap too didn"t want to spring 4 the TOY 1 and he called me up complaining he didn"t have heat a month ago and I told him to go spend some $$ an buy the fac. stuff.... The cheep bas***d went thru 3 of em from auto zone:banghead: before he ponied up the $$ 4 the toy one!! Now he"s all:D:D:D now!! He spent more time an gas an being:mad: Yellin at me..I told him:horse:!!!

Alrighty now....I"ll clear this all up about years opts. so on.. 80-82 2nd gen 4x. were only 1s w/3rd eye blind light ,4xs only w/adj.susp.frt.+bk. 1980-82 inst.cluster was like that-they changed in 83. 1600s were only single range4x-NO hi-lo! 1981 up was 1800 w/HI-LO but they threw in a few sig.ranges also,I have no clue why but I"ve had a few... They made 1600s in U.S till 89 Hatch only2x. Pre 80 susp.not adjustable, You WILL kick yourself in the arse if you sell it-it"ll go where your legacy won"t unless u lift your lega. but I"d rather get a 1800 with a HILO trans and change it over-It basically bolts in!! With all you"ve done so far it should be a DD by now eh? Hell!! I drove to Bend ORG. to buy a rust free 81-4xHI-LO for $300.00 w/a bad motor+a brand new WEBER!! I took a motor w/me [in my 83 4xwgn.!] and 4hrs. later had the car running and drove it back in a blizzard 3rd eye blind and all!

  8. The turbos are ok AS long as you treat them right-I.E. If you boost them you need to let them cool down [idle] before you shut it off- cool down,the heat kills them, a intercooler helps alot but on the gl"s its a pain to put one on so if its stock you just treat them with care and they"ll be okay you can flog em!! I had a 85 gl-10 T I built that pushed 12#s of boost and still got 32mpg-that thing was a blast but it liked cv"s & tires, It was sleeper car plain jane [i took all the stickers off-white w/blu.int. BliZZaks didn"t last long on pavement but stuck good after they were bald:headbang: Chevelles didnt stand a chance!!
  9. Allrighty now AK. I do not understand why you are doing ALL this work to the car AND NOT bring IT with you if you are moving down here!! The old Subies are becoming a little sparse anymore:mad: Not to many ma&pa yards anymore, the big pull+pay yards are about turnover +$$$$ not cool cars like[subies] soooo... If I was moving like that i"d get a little trailer and load it with parts and what little clothes-house stuff you have left after the BIG MOVING sale=$$$!! Hey what more do you need 4 a roadtrip-Subie wgn.=sleep qtrs. KOA campground 4 showers,spare parts[just n case] If nothing else you sell parts on the way down from Wash.2 Kan. AND just think about that Beautiful drive down here...It is gorgeous!! I"ve done the drive to Wash-Ore 4 times In a subie wgn-exploring off road:headbang: Think about it!!
  10. I don"t know what you need down there to pass-cat? All the hose crap? Up here in denver,co. you have to pass visual and have all the crap....I can help with parts or a diagram. The thing would be to find out what you can or cannot get away with. It"ll pass with the weber if it"s set up right no problem,so I would call a friend or shop in Albq.and find out. The easy way is to register it out town with no emiss. but some people get weird about that.I have cars reg.out of town so I avoid it for the most part except my OB. Good luck Nate

  12. Hey I have to drive like I"m at the dragstrip to get that holeshot....Watch the side lights and go on green!! Can"t tell you how many people I"ve smoked like that:headbang: Stoplite to Stoplite downtown I sucker punch people all the time-they stare at the car I stare at the light- Suckers But have to watch out 4 wrx people.....Some do watch-Hey it"s a Subie too- I know they wonder-Does he have a turbo? About the oil weight I"ve come to the fact that 1-with govt. wanting more mpg car manu./govt. came up with 0-20 0-30 10-30 so forth so motors dont work so hard at pumping it =mpg On the other side of the coin I think with the way they cram everything under the hood and all the heat generated it kills the oil and the motor quicker-I remember back in the 80"s car manu. said they were building 5year cars because they were losing $$$$ from cars lasting to long! The Govt.nowadays just cares about $$$$$!! I love my ea81"s:headbang: Long live!!
  14. To check u-joints, Yes grab at the end-close to joint and see if has play. When they get BAD it"ll go clinkclinkclink w/clutch in coasting,SHOT!! Now to the noise...2 things to check and the way to check them. You said stationary or moving so 1 the throwout bearing or 2 bearings in the trans going. 1 break out the spare tire and wrenches...you need to get to the clutch cable\fork hence the tire goes out, wrench time-loosen up the adjust nut on the clutch cable and the 1 on the hill holder cable too- you need to get the fork loose so you can make sure the throwout bearing IS NOT on the press.plate. Start it up and listen to it-making sure throwout bearing is off the clutch if noisy then trans bearings if no noise put throwout bearing up against the clutch and listen again one or the other is going bad. noise or not that is the question... good luck!   17. Bummer about cts part...about the fuse thing 1 is for the a/c,now if there is 2 one is for the a/c the other for disconnecting the auto trans for towing [sub gods forbid] so trans doesnt get screwed up;)
  18. Whats this crap accelerating like a normal car...I"m offended!!! My 81 ea81 377k w/weber 2-1/2 exh. with foot in IT 35-5500 tells people to move out the way!!! With the noise the weber makes everyone is looking around for the ricer to see what it is!! They don"t look at the lifted mud covered old subie thats smokin their arse!!! Downtown is beautiful w/all the buildings [sounds great!!]
  19. Yeah I know but I was in a fix [Plates 2mos.xpire] and was in the middle of doing the 650mi comute every 2 days-moving so it was sitting except 4 bike riding,yard police saw plate complained:banghead: they need $$$$

My 90 loyale cold start does about 1400rpm but I kick it down and then it does 11to-1200,but I can drive out the gate no issue at all, but if I remember from o.p.p.[other peep problems] it seemed like the throttle body [injector] had issues with the cold start+bogging till warm up so I"d change that it seem to fix it but u have to be careful if u get one from a yard.   21. I wished I had that luck:mad: MY 98 O.B.2.5 dohc 5spd.122k was good till enviroscam FLOGGED IT 4 A 1/2 hr.it was toasted after that! It was fine till then hauling the trailer w/dirtbikes,camping,flogging GP use, I expected to make 125k at least Before they blew but enviroscam gets $25. to flog your car in case you dont do it good enough! topping it off lasted about 2mo.before it it really started to drink it-1gal.every 3days:drunk:,parked it..:lol:My spark plugs ARE so clean now!!!
  22. 1st and cheap-check u-joints-its free and easy....then change the trans oil and watch when you drain it starts out clean and goes grey-dark and has a bunch of metal on the plug then I would lean to the trans,and you said its been popping out of gear-thats a no-no......I"ve seen the 5spd"s have issues w/diff.bearings so I"d go w/a yard trans if you find 1 w/low miles I.E.my 84yr.old gramma drove it to the store after church Yea Right-I live n colo. That entails mud road+45miles
  23. : I would check the heads for cracks[a must!] sounds like it blew a head or intake gasket if the #2 was green-wet [antifreeze burning] and running ok. On the cyls. check for ring ridge after you clean the carbon off. If the ridge is very min.and the pistons look good-I.E.no scarring on the sides and not loose[in Tolerance] clean it all up and put new rings on with the fel pro gaskets No issues with them. Nate :cool: REALLY? 50mpg? My ea82 4xH/L wgn. carbed got 38 best w/wind,put weber on and 32w/cit-hwy and more nu**s! Have 91 ea82 spfi and gets 36 w/14"tires working.
  24. Well it"s been awhile since i"ve heard about oils. All this new stuff all runs on 5-30 stuff,o8 ranger 4.0 had 5-30 in it since new,I got it and put 10-40 in it [it had ticks when started cold. Put 10-40 in it and nothing since. Commute trk. now [moving so 650.mi.round trip every 2 days:banghead: talk tired... Anyway my old subs ea81 I run 20-50 sum. and when real cold -10/+30 still run 10-40. I have 81 ea81 w/377,000mi. Weber, gets Flogged, hauls dirt bikes and still holds 55-60@2-5000rpm and hot idle 900@30 with walmart oil changing 25-3000mi. Looks like I just changed it:D Did I mention flog?
