  1. Sounds like when I stripped out a hub. With the hood open, put it in REVERSE (for safety) and have someone look down at the driveshafts (cv's) to see if they are spinning. I used 4WD to get mine home to get the hub changed.
  2. I think a 4 speed dual range would be good since its period specific. Maybe even a 5 speed DR could be justified as its such a nice upgrade. Same with rear discs and stuff. EJ swap = too far from original 5 lug = too far from original pugs = too far from original Keep her on some factory 13's of SOME sort and I think its close enough just my opinions
  3. That is totally sweet! a gen 3 brat!
  4. That has more junk in the trunk than my Baja But not by much :-\
  5. wow it looks really good. Hurry up and finish it so we can see
  6. I am just amazed that they fit (width wise) I woulda figured you would not even be able to get the back doors to close. I guess it woulda been harder in an EA81 Makes me want to try that in a GL now
  7. if its built sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of off roading... should be a fun rig once you get some lift and tires under it
  8. keep shopping.... get one with 42K REAL miles for just a little more. http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/car/559661247.html http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/car/554543567.html you get the idea.... there are plenty for the SAME price with way less miles
  9. Some say seattle some say portland.... personally I say something like Hood River Oregon is even more concentrated with subes (% of cars, not total number). Its a mix of skiers and windsurfers. Both of which appreciate the use of a good AWD/4WD wagon
  10. i have seen an 86 recently on craigslist with like 425K or something? Saw an 84 GL a while ago with like 600K I woulda considered buying it except the owner had painted the plastic on it with silver paint all ghetto style.
  11. I found that the single color paint job helps downplay the big errrr tushie of the Baja. 2 tone kind of exaggerates how big it is.
  12. Hmmm maybe THATS where the water in my 05 baja is. I get the sloshing too and have not yet figured out where it is. The car leaves a small puddle in the garage when I park it, so it drains out slowly
  13. On something as nice/rare as a brat. I wouldnt trust Maaco. I worked with a guy with a sweet custom chevy truck and the maaco paint was flaking off bad
  14. http://www.subaru.com/sub/misc/2009/forester/index.html?cid=tr_2009_Forester_owner Hope this works, Subaru just sent this to me sometime between Sunday morning and now. More framed doors, looks a bit like a highlander if you ask me. As long as the gas mileage didnt drop with the redesign i would consider one (but of course we know I wont sell the baja)
  15. have one, great vehicle, if you have to carry more than 4 people, too bad unless you convert the rear seat to a legacy unit and add a lap belt. should last a while i have had rather minor issues with mine, but still havnt gotten around to taking it in. my rear power plug stopped working and i think i am retaining water either in the cladding or the roof rack (or both) buy it
  16. My brother wants to trade up from his 05 because he thinks he will get better mileage. (with the SI drive) I just told him to keep off the boost and he should get WAY better than the 15 he gets now
  17. I had it shortened in my 87 GL (chopped 1 inch off the rod and rethreaded it... 12mm 1.25 pitch die required if I recall) and then put on a forester leather knob which cut off another half inch from the stock knob. I kept the stock geometry so it still moved the same number of degrees, but my hand was just lower and moving a slightly shorter distance. I often would beat the tranny to the next gear as i agree that its not really designed to shift too fast. I switched to a leather shift boot as well and that made it feel lots better too. I may have some pics....... somewhere..... if I had another GL would do the swap again though.
  18. Too nice to wreck with salt. Good idea to save a cherry one. PS they all look like that on the west coast
  19. No snow.... I have to be able to make it home to portland from Coeur D'Alene on the 24th just to turn around and drive to The Dalles But merry christmas (or happy holidays if you are into something else)
  20. Broke it, the timing belt snapped like a week after I bought it :-\ Killed it... miles miles miles and revving it up to 5500 or so getting on the freeway when the engine was not fully warmed up going home from work.... something in the engine broke and it rattled like crazy.... parted it out since the suspension bushings were shot, the engine now had issues, brake fluid was disappearing, the title was salvage from being hit by someone and it kind of smelled like pizza inside
  21. They only give us 6 digits in Oregon.... otherwise I would have gone NEWBRAT
  22. Train horns: $169.99 at the Pilot on I-5 exit 99 in Tumwater/Olympia If I owned my Freightliner I would install a set
