  1. Thats because it is a thermistor. As long as it is cold (as in gasoline covering it) the light wont come on. When the thermistor is exposed to air, it heats up and the light comes on. thats why the light isnt a on/off thing. It slowly glows. I dont know what the calibration is for it, but i can see where in winter, if it is cold snough, the thermistor can be fooled that the tank is fuller then it really is. There is about 2 gallons of gas left when the light comes on. nipper
  2. Late 90's are getting in the 10-14 year old range, so I wouldnt be too alarmed. I have only seen a few 2000's issues. Also keep in mind the cars are getting heavier, so that will have an effect on the rack. nipper
  3. its just a "?" mark next to your name

  4. I'm slipping into a big black hole mentally so I dont know if i can come. I do have a new camera mount I would like to play with. We'll see tomorrow. How well do you know the route? nipper
  5. I had the chance to do some rough tests in a parking lot with the last blizzard. (I found if you pop the car in neutral whne the ABS kicks in (I am assuming safe distance and of course no one is overdirivng for the weather conditions) the ABS works much better. The ABS could have used another sensor or two or a software tweak. The ABS and AWD in automatics fight each other, along with the mass of the car at lower speeds. I now have much better confidence in the ABS.
  6. And it was Blu , but it was also at 230,000 miles. They do last a long time back there. I had to replace it again at 236000 miles when i smashed it wheelin. But like Gross said, the cheapest generic rear sensor works.
  7. Just replace it. Blu does this once in a while after a start and it drives me nuts since I can't test it when it fails (once out 300 starts in winter). It's one of those codes that you can trust 99% of the time. nipper
  8. Go over to the outback board. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/ There they tend to like thier cars new, here we like to wait for them to mature . I drove one I thought it was quicker off the line then my 97 was, and it feels quicker because there are no gearshifts to reference.
  9. This is the one part I would demand to customers to be new. It is just too important to take a chance on a poor rebuild. Just replace it. nipper
  10. But they aint driving though they do sound like the driveup speaker.
  11. First thing first. Chek all your grounds and connections, but I dont think that is it. You are missing the ever popular Brake light and ABS light. Check your Alr output at 1800 RPM with everything on. How old is your bettery?
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_fKxVBMR60&feature=player_embedded
  13. Check to make sure the return spring is on the pedal. Next I would question the Master Cylinder. I think the problems are related. nipper
  14. Year and mileage? Is it the orignal master cylinder and slave cylinder? What brand clutch? Did you replace the Release Bearing clips? Is the pedal actually hanging up or does it feel like the clutch?
  15. Wheel balance. Ball joint. Wheel Bearing. Tie Rod End. Inner Tie Rod End. Snow buildup on a wheel. Warped Rotor. Long shots Drive shaft issues. Is it always over 40 mph? Do you feel it in the brake pedal? Is it worse with breaking? Can you feel it in the drivers seat?
  16. Cylinder s 1-2 and 3-4 fire together. Do a test. Swap the wires around. If the problem moves from 1-2 to 3-4 I would suspect wires. If it doesnt move we can inspect the coils and the CTS. nipper
  17. No this is just plain old vehical dynamics, called oversteer. You have oversteer (rear swings out) understeer (turn the front sheels the car resist direction change) and balanced. The OP may just want to peek under his car and make sure the sway bar links arent broken. Oversterr and understeer are sometimes natures way of telling you to get better tires or to slow down. Ghost walking, if it truly does exist (there is another post on this so dont jump on it here) is something else.
  18. Pull back the boot and watch the tie rod as you shake the wheel. It doesnt take much play at the tie rod to make it feel like there is alot more play then it appears. nipper
  19. No such thing........yet. i have the feeling they are testing the CVT with a diesel. They were having problems making a torque converter small enough that could handle the torque. nipper
  20. I will remember that i have two of them as Dad's Dad was a plumber. And a bus driver And a fireman. nipper
  21. Its just where the flats line up on the tie rod. I have used colorful language on this part. It is a simple job, except for that. I have been able to hold the wheel alignment. nipper
