Hillholder Sticking
nipper replied to Urban Coyote's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust a quick easy cable adjustment will do. It may not need more then 1 turn of the nut. Experiment till you get it where you want it. nipper

2003 Outback H6 3.0 LL Bean Edition
nipper replied to gaijinko's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubarus just reach puberty at 100K, thats when you can name them . There is an H-6 that has reached the 160K mark with no issues. I see no reason why these can't run to 200K trouble free, maybe even longer. Wind noise is fixable. nipper

Should I buy a Baja???
nipper replied to Rice Burner's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTry www.cars101.com. The only thing I would recomend doing after sitting for a year is chainging the oil, tranny and coolant and closely inspect the tires. As much as i love a deal, times are a little hard, so dont beat her down too much

Timing Belt marks- saga
nipper replied to eppoh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAre you sure they are plastic? They are usually a metal alloy that breaks easily (On purpose)

unusual head gasket failure, EA82
"I looked down at the gauge and it was on hot" thats always a good one. What caused them to look at the gauge, usually the answer is "the car was runing funny". Thats like cooking using the smoke alarm and wondering why the steak is tough. nipper

nipper replied to 86subaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHave you checked to make sure the ECU is grounding out the coils (thats part of how they make spark) and work backwards from there. Are the coils getting power? Is the ignitor good? I would look at the ignitor next. nipper

Some interesting emissions data
nipper replied to zyewdall's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://www.dieselnet.com/standards/us/ld_t2.php Diesel had has issues meeting NOx and particulate, thats why they have been off the market for a while. They are sloly coming back thanks to things like computer controls, new catalysts, pee (yes pee ) and direct injection. And if you are really bored http://www.osti.gov/bridge/purl.cover.jsp;jsessionid=C1E1DB4869827A97AB1D653A1C263589?purl=/829815-D2pRKp/native/ click on the view documnet. nipper

Some interesting emissions data
nipper replied to zyewdall's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXrear just checks the effeciency of the Cat, nothing else. Gas smell can be the evao smell can be the source of the gas, or, a leaky FI hose. You should look into that a bit more. POOF can ruin ones day. nipper

nipper replied to 86subaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX"still having problems" refresh our memories. How many miles? How old is the timing belt? Yes plugs should be replaced if old. What is it doing ? Is there spark? Check the engine temp sensor.

mazda rotery engine transplant, is it possable?
Almost any transplant from one mfg to another requires having an adapter plade made. The Rotary would be a neat fit. But rotarys are oil burners and pigs when it comes to fuel. What is redline on a rotary, that would be my one concern, if the tranny (that is elderly) can deal with that high an RPM. nipper

unusual head gasket failure, EA82
I never worked on an EA engine, so ill plead ignorance, but could have the heads being on the wrong side of the engine had anything to do with it? I cant tell if it was overtorqued since I wasnt the one to take it apart, but could you tell, or was it a case that since you werent looking for it you didnt notice. nipper

who makes the electronic swithc for drive by wire gas pedal?
nipper replied to bheinen74's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat hesitation may be a dosftware glitch or growing pains in the drive-by-wire. CTS doesnt make the gas pedal. SUbaru tends to cheap out on material waulity, not on the mechainicals or driver interfaces (fancy speak for switches and pedals). Talk to a dealer to see if there has been a software upgrade for the ECU/TCU. nipper

Heater - 1 side blowing cold
nipper replied to hockeylvr93's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOk this has me concerned. This is coming up a lot lately on the outback list as well. There have been a couple of fixes: 1- Check to make sure the doors in the HVAC system are all working. If it is actually moving air through the passenger side footwell the door is working. 2-flush the heater core. Flush it repeatedly. No need to flush the entire cooling system. 3- the nuclear option - the heater core is clogged and needs to be replaced. nipper
