Gearbox?
nipper replied to 1995SubaruImpreza's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would say pinion gear or transmission input gear. If its the pinion it will get louder with road speed, if its the input shaft bearing it will change pitch with engine RPM. nipper

Kill Switch Ideas
I usually interupt the starter and the fuel pump. Key is to hide the switch someplace that seems like a natural motion in the car to flip, but is a pain to find for a thief. Sometimes you guys make me feel safe living outside NYC. nipper

Coolant boiling under T-stat? Most likely air...I know
There are a few ways this can happen. One way is to not slowly fill the cooling system while the car is running (allowing for the t-stat to open and keep filling, test dirve, repeat), or an improper T-stat. Another is air getting into the system somehow (bad rad cap, blown HG, Leak). I am fearing the middle one. Replace the cap, refill the coolant system with the engine hot and running. Good luck. nipper

How are the H6's
nipper replied to Bone Daddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI read that as you putting a switch to opne it on demand, sorry. Do what you want it's your car. And yes noise regulations have gotten very tight. I personally think there are enough distractions in cars as it is, and no one watches what they should watch. Why add a silly light?

Reusing a burned engine?
nipper replied to dave833's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the rest of the car is burned too, I wouldnt try it. Subaru engines sit very low under the hood (Pancake or suitcase take your pick). this puts it under most combustables. If the front tires are melted I would think twice about it. Upright engines (everyone else) is surrounded by combustables. If there is small scorching under the hood, I would say its ok. If the Wheel well liners are melted, I wouldnt use it. nipper

How are the H6's
nipper replied to Bone Daddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo it wouldnt. As you could get a ticket for excessive noise, may see a drop in gas mileage, and may throw a CEL. Some things should be left alone, as this is made to give you the best of both words. nipper

How are the H6's
nipper replied to Bone Daddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhen you loose some power, as that is what they are used for usually. In some cases you may never know depending upon how you drive. nipper

1987 DL damp weather power fades
1- its a thermo switch, period. 2- ALl it is isdoing is getting air from the hot exhaust pipe. It is not bypassing the air cleaner. If it is you have bigger problems or wierdness going on.

dropping resistor problems?
nipper replied to bdecriscio's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsmall nicks are ok. IM thinking the TPS has an issue that may not be reproduceable, but first just remove the connector clean it and put it back on. See what happens. Very few things will put the transmission in limp mode. One of them is a loss of both VSS sensors. Check that harness and plugs too. nipper

TOD after waterpump failure and Timing Belt change
did the engine overheat? Is it a hollow deep kind of sound? Are you sure its not a tensioner or idler for the timing belt?

dropping resistor problems?
nipper replied to bdecriscio's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMAF sensor doesnt feed back to the transmission, but the TPS does. The TPS may be dirty or have a weak spot in it. nipper
