  1. Check the carrier bearing between the driveshafts. Check the universal joints. nipper
  2. STart simply. Rotate othe tires on one side of the car, frive it, then the other and see if the noise moves. Inspect the tires look for cupping or broken belts. Check them for runout. nipper
  3. Get the HG from subaru. Felpro is a trusted name, but sometimes you just need to get OE parts. nipper
  4. not only checking the heads, but re-surfacing them to the proper finish is critical. nipper
  5. Clear the codes and re read them. There is never a zero split to the rear wheels. Its anywhere from 10/90 to 50/50. nipper
  6. Dont be worried. It sounds like yours just started. YOu can have the machine shop pressure test your heads just to be on the safe side if you want. TRanny seals dont usually leak. everything else sounds good. nipper
  7. Do a search here. There is a procedure for finding out whats wrong. Its no more ambigous then a flashing CEL. This is NOT a light that you can ignore. You may have already chewed up your clutches at this point. The light flashes to tell you that something failed the last time the car was operated. There are quite a few conditions that can cause that light to fail, but my money is on your c - solenoid. nipper
  8. Put a vacume gauge on the car and tell us what the needle is doing. DO a wet/dry compression test and show us the numbers. nipper
  9. Define older vs newer. What years are we talking about. We see TB as an issue from 1995 on up. From 1995-1997 1/2 it was a design flaw by subaru. Most the time TB can be traced to people not chainging their fluid, kisktached tires, or under inflated tires. Manuals are far more succeptable to TB then automatics due to tire issues. Also sometimes things just get tired and wear out, like the solenoid or clutches. I dont know what kind of system the XT-6 had so i can't really say what the difference is. But also the newer 4eats are put in much larger and heavier cars. They have more powerful engines. You really cant compare cars that are 10 years apart in age, especially when they are so unrelated. nipper
  10. plugs can cause ping. You may be getting the knock sensor code because no matter what the knock sesnor does it cant get rid of the ping. How old are they? nipper
  11. Could it have been the bad valve? A bad tooth on the flywheel? nipper
  12. Its the begining of AWD failure. Not only are there electrical parts, but there also are mechanical parts. It sound slike the mechanical parts are sticking, and has nothing to do with the TCU. At over 200K this is not surprising. If you dont have a flashing tranny temp light on startup electriclally its fine.. If you havent done it yet, change the tranny fluid. Sometimes that will cure it. Make sure all the tires match and are equally inflated. nipper
  13. for the 100th time, it says recomended, not required. WHen it says required you MUST use that octane for best performance and to avoid engine damage. Recomended means for best performance to use X octane, but you can use anything else with out fear of damage to the engine. You may have loose some performance. Since your car is recomended to use 87, the point really is moot. nipper
  14. OMFG this is one time when i dont think there is anything salvagable i am so glad you were not in it. Truck loose control? nipper
  15. soooooooo how long before somone here asks her what she wants to do with her engine. nipper
  16. AH my mistake, i thought maybe you were going replace the engine. nipper
  17. Silly question, why not just replace the HG in this one? Obviously en tngine is fine otherwise, especially since you haven cooked it. nipper
  18. "The Cold Air Intake extends all the way down to the fender well and behind the bumper to replace hot air from the engine with cold air entering through the stock manifold system. Power normally restricted by the stock molded rubber intake system is released by allowing maximum airflow through the throttle body to increase power and throttle response. " Its it being that low that bothers me. i think ill use the other one. nipper
  19. Its not so much the intake as it is the filter. The filter doesnt look oiled, so that would be its saving grace. Besides can always get another brand filter. nipper
  20. GRR where were you when i said i was looking for an intake system :-p Looking at the two of them, i am trying to figure out the true differnce between the short one, and the "cold" air intake. The short one would probably solve my problem. The cold air intake I would be afraid of it sucking in water. nipper
  21. The shop called today. The shift cable works YAY They wont give me blu back yet. They got blu on the alignment rack, and Blu needs a camber kit. 2 degrees in the front, and 1 1/2 in the rear. Oddly the lift kit may have saved Blus life already. We had a really bad rainstorm here tuesday. Locally we got 3.5 " of rain in an hour or less (and ther tornado in brooklyn). The rental car place around the block from me lost 4 cars. My street was somplelty flooded (my house is 4 feet above the street). The shop said that the water was so high, that there was a chance if Blu was normal height i would have lost Blu. So anyone have a good source for cam kits? nipper
  22. There are EPA standards for drive by noise on cars that are being enforced (yuck). All those dangly bits, hidden boxes, big boxy things all serve this purpose. nipper
