  1. Wont know till you load test the system. Like i said it may be normal. nipper
  2. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006117/p-2006117/N-111+600010098/c-10107 21.00 plus shipping 70 amps should be fine for what your using the battery for. nipper
  3. The SS brake lines wont show any differnce today, but it will in a year or two ro longer. As normal break lines start to give a little, yours wont. nipper
  4. er um Mouse milk? First off, who would even think of milking a mouse mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosqueek? Thats a new one on me nipper
  5. I would use a dual battery isolator, This allows for curretn to be pulled from one battery, and cgarges both while running. It wont pull current from the main battery. nipper
  6. The seals are tired in that wheel. The are no longer flexable, so they cant adjust to the dimensional change caused by extreeme cold. nipper
  7. Only good way to tell is by an oil anylsis. As long as those chunks arent big and dont look like a gear or a connecting rod don't worry about it. nipper
  8. Batteries it depends on how long you plan ion keeping the car. I always buy the mid priced battery for what ever time ive decided (36/60) i have found 70 month batteries to be planning too far ahead. i avoid walmart brand anything. Sears is good, along with delco and interstate. Altenators are nonly as good as thier rebuilder. nipper
  9. i use hellas and they kick but, not only are they long throws but they are wide too. nipper
  10. same thing you should have done the first time, take it to the dealer. The car is still under warrenty, let them figure it out. You may have a lazy 02 sensor, the car may not be warming up properly to make the sensor happy. No one likes to get out of bed when its -5F including cars. nipper
  11. There is an old tool i use for that. I have a spring loaded plier, resembles a plumber tool that is great for soft nuts. Your going to have to use vice grips, some nut buster, and prbabably will have to replace that line (if your planning on keeping the car till the next break job) nipper
  12. http://www.cars101.com/impreza_archive93_96.html#1993%20impreza Rust isnt really a problem here in the north east as long as the car has seen a car wash and isnt in the rust belt. nipper
  13. Keep an ear out for the automatic chain tensioner (yes it has a timing chain). There has been some problems with these, but subaru has a fix. Beleive it or not there are over (are you sitting down) 100 bolts to get to the timing chain. So this is not something you wnat to do yourself. On the bright side the chain is supposed to last the life of the car (which i am assuming to be 200K) Nothing lasts for ever. nipper
  14. not very. Altenators can get very hot, and thats normal. Yes burning yourself can happen. This come up from time to time. Its NEVER a good ideal to touch ANY part of your engine untill the car cools down. Here is an example http://www.prestolite.com/pgs_products/products_0.php rated for 93 degrees C. remeber 100 C is 212 degrees. I thinkg you can burn yourself at anything over 120 (not sure). Cooking of flesh is not a good way to tell if something is too hot. http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1h/bl185h.htm I would look at your bettery first. A hot alt (depdning upon what hot is) means the alt is working very hard. If you have the lights on etc, i would expect it to be hot at idle. Batteries can become big resistors at times. regulators can go bad an overcharge as well as underchrage. Get the system checked. nipper
  15. Considering how trouble free the PS is normally, i would replace the pump. Sounds like something is wrong inside it nipper
  16. sounds fine to me, thats all you do to heads on a "cooked" engine is resurface them. When was the engine replaced? Resurfaced and rebuilt, hell, that can be better then new. nipper
  17. yes things like, was there a swat team involved, did anyone had to make bail, did it make the local news, and the ever popular how many firetrucks showed up. nipper
  18. My father got me started with the Audles book, even at 5 i liked the pictures. Dad was a mechanic in the navy. After that it was every shop calss i could take (except weilding for some reason). I miss that man. nipper
  19. You need an electrical relay (49.00 on subarugenuineparts). Look on the relay and see if there are any markings on it. Sometimes if its marked you can get it from another source. Also a relay is a safe itenm that does not have come from subaru.
  20. a HUGE hole. Releasing refrigerent is not a one to one, or even five to one ratio, its a exponential chain reaction. a FYI, if you see a licensed shop releasing freon into the air, its 10,000$ fine. Gets who gets the procedes of the fine? the person who reports it (or at least thats how it was) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haloalkane nipper
  21. There still are, but it requires a state permit, and i have no idea how to get one. There are spots on Jones (Beach) Island, and Robert moses, and out by montauk point. I am sure there are more. nipper
  22. have you ever tried driving a stick in bumper to bumper traffic stop and go traffic with no clutch? I did and let me tell you its not doable. I have also had a cable snap in vw during non rush hour, and that was more managable. Things dont break when its convient to you, usually when its inconvient. Better to replace them on your terms. nipper
  23. Get youtself an air compressor and reduce the tires way down to 15? psi. Also if you get stuck, slightly apply the breaks while giving the car gas. This transfers power to all four wheels at the same time. nipper
