Do a search on HG Youll see that the people who get it done only get it done once, and the car is good for a very lobg time. It's silly to throw a car away for a HG issue if its in good shape and you know the car. Used to be that it was true, but not with the high price of new cars, or even a good used car. nipper

actually the spring has other uses hor Noise vibration and harshness. the spring rate on that spring doesnt really assist. Removing or changing that sping can cause all sorts of annoying issues, and its not recomended that its removed (yes i know somone will say that they removes it etc etc etc). BLeed the system. Inspect the hose. If after bleeding you still have a problem, you may have a tired slave cylinder and or master cylinder. nipper

They have a small car picked to come over here if they need too, but its not an easy thing to do, its japanese made for the japanes market, and gas prices coming down people have short memories. SUbaru has been going upscale, but the imprezza is the only car fully loaded with awd for under 20,000.00 us that will last in excess of 300,000 miles. nipper

ive had a 87 and a 1998 and a 1997, i like the nice with the 2.5, and found nothing different about rpms on the highway. I did find out the tires make a differnce with road noise as opposed to the 13" tires on the 87. for the billionth time, the HG issue is 10-15% of the cars. If it was around 50% everyone would be ***************ing. Any car over 120,000 miles can blow a head gasket. What you do have to watch out for is Torque bind. Drive the car in a tight circle both forwards and backwards left and right and check for shuddering. Make sure all the tires match and inspect the tranny fluid. TB is a 1000.00 repair and can be a bargining tool. i got my 1997 outback as a steal because the car was mislisted and i knew it had TB. i still came out ahead as the car was priced over one thousand dollars less then market rate (love ebay and typos). nipper

whining noise
nipper replied to focheezy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
is it a whine or a roar? nipper -
there is some black box (seat belt timer) that controls the belt warning. There is a switch in the buckle, and a sensor built into the seat. I just looked at the mother of all wiring diagramsThey als interact with the drivers door switch. The circuit is simple. The wiring diagram i uses is for a slightly newer soobie, but soobies dont change much. It also controls the key buzzer. is that working? nipper

Again and the last time im going to say it, do not do it. There are mushings and guides inside a rack the need to be inspected and checked for wear. There are special tools required. This is the one part of any car that no one rebuilds themselves, because it is labor intensive, requires a clean area (like an engine rebuild). http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/bf20340.htm http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Steering.html nipper

Paint is a very rare issue on subarus, i suspect a bad respray or paint job. On the tires go by the tire label, as newere tires tend to be higher pressure then older tires. i often leave juffy lube with 4 flats (if i forget to tell them not to check the tires) because the new tires require higher pressure then the older tires. Also you have a little leeway if you find the ride is too hard for you, just play with tire pressure evenly. nipper
