  1. i am so going to visit you when my car is due for a timing belt nipper
  2. more likely they droped the back of the car carrier on it. We got more donor cars in college that way, literally cars that fell off the truck, got smashed by the overhead ramps and other nastyness. nipper
  3. a few things. The computer in the car learns how you drive, so it takes about a month of driveing to learn. Defrosters use the AC Call the area rep. nipper
  4. The theory is the same weather its one cylinder or multiple cylinders. I can steer you towards REALLY heavy engineering books if you want. The combustion porcess doesnt care if the engine is 10cc or has a displacement measured in cubic feet. Sorry (waving automotive engineering degree) the article is dead on. I posted it as I got tired of having to re hash it every time it came up. nipper
  5. what he said. unless its a give away price go over it with a fine tooth comb, and expect to replace the timing belt seals water pump etc, as they go by mileage OR calender. nipper
  6. as much as i keep out of this debate, prefering to talk religon and politics, all i have to say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA im not a big fan of switching to syn from dino oil after the car has many miles on it, but this is the silliest thing i ever heard. nipper PS even switching to synthetic you still need to change the oil filter at the recomended intervals.
  7. http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Articles/Engine/Detonation/ thought i would share this, this is a very good explination. nipper
  8. please do. i actually replaced the speakers with OE (price was great) and i needed them. i'll wait for a report nipper
  9. Or its just a 3000 lb car being driven by small engine already doing the best it can. nipper
  10. That you can do usually a screw at the door release, a screw or two in the arm rest. Start pulling at the bottom of the door slowly and it pops off. triple check all the screws are out. Disconnect switches as you go along. They may pup out, but mine seemed happier staying in the door panel. nipper
  11. er um, you dont install one. Thats a huge sore point with this car. Unless its hcanged in the last few months, the stero and hvac are all intgrated into one unit. There is no replacment face plate or kit that i know of, i can be wrong, but that was last year when i checked. nipper
  12. 30 seconds to clear codes, an hour to reste the computer, most say do it over night. I wouldnt be surprised if you need a coil. nipper
  13. with that many miles i would suspect that you have clogged radiator. That would cause the tranny to over heat and the car to run hot on hills. nipper
  14. stand my ground. From what i have read you dont have strong consumer laws like we do. Call your local area rep and ask to see the specification in wiriting from the factory service manual. Demand a new engine (Or cylinders and rings). I bet thier dealers cars or demo models dont use oil. nipper
  15. It doesnt really help gas mileage. The same parts are moving no matter what. This is not like some 4wd trucks where the front hubs unlock. On those the unlocking of the hubs disconnect the wheels from the rotational mass of the driveline (which is big and heavy and robs power). You cant remove the rotational mass on a subaru. The engine has to work just as hard to drive that mass as when it is driven. nipper
  16. a duty solenoid cycles on and off really fast to vary the torque split. the 90/50 split is varied by doing this. When the solenoid is fully off (failed) you get full awd drive at max internal pressure on the clutches. With the solenoid energized, all the pressure is dumped and you get no rear wheel drive. By pulsing the solenoid it doesnt really get hot, and it constantly varies the amount of power to the rear wheels. nipper
  17. cookie you live in SF and you drive a stick? i am impressed. i know its aprils fools right? Duty C solenoid is duty solenoid. The differnce between a duty dolenoid and a solenoid is that a duty solenoid is not desighned to deal with high heat. A regular solenoid can. The duty solenoids in the tranies are blessed in a way. They are in an area where heat is taken away from the, and a cool fluid runs through them. Theri survival depends upon the temperiture. If your driving on blacktop in Az in rush hour you may make it angry, or august in rush hour. nipper
  18. do a search on head gasket ballpark 1200-1500. At the same time have the water pump replaced, timing belt, cam seals, main seal, reseal oil pump, and check replace the tensioner and idlers Youll be good for 100,000 on those and for 200 on the HG or more. nipper
  19. didnt notice the year well it does, but not by much (you wont notice). Since you already done it isnt it a little late to ask...like OMFG DONT DO IT YOUR CAR WILL EXPLODE :-p nipper
  20. i've never seen anyone say an engine is not rebuildable, and i'm an automotive engineer, so i would notice these things. Also there have been more then a few engines here that have been rebuilt at dealers, or torn down so far (ie pistons) that its very close to a rebuild. heheh ild take more comfort if you said you sold a few a week nipper nipper
  21. it's not cheap, but once its done its done. is this a 2.5 or a 2.2 engine
  22. Take the car back you have a bad module. The disabling trick wont work. nipper
