  2. er um er um hrmm can you smell fumes coming out of the hoses? Could be clogged filter in the evap can (if they still have them). A cloged evap line? a gremlin? Loose connection? nipper

If you can get a hold of a FSM, the FSm tells you exactly how much air moves through that area (its huge) , and there is really no way to match that besides what the factory already has done, unless you squeeze in a radial fan. Also what you may do can interfer with the normal flow of air, and make things worse. Air flow is not an exact science and flow can be disturbed. nipper

  5. i had this, and beleive it or not it was a tired Radiator fan motor. The bearing was shot, so it was drawing a lot of current, and the temp increase was false. It was a voltage drop that caused the temp gauge to go up, along with a very very tired radiator. So check your cooling fans make sure then spin freely and have no play Physically remove and inspect the radiator. It may look fine from the engins side, but its possible on the other side all the cooling fins are gone. The temp going up with the AC gone is the standard sign of a clogged/decrepid radiator. If you do do an auxiliary fan, use a radial not a blower tupe motor. you need to run air over as much as possible of the radiator, not just one spot. One spot wont do a thing. nipper
  6. Before you go swapping distrubutors and faulting the sensor, chekc the distributor (or any replacement) bearings and shaft for play. You dont want to inherit the same issue from another car or wose. When i had my GL i was forced to get a rebuilt dist since i couldnt find a good used one. nipper

  8. the computer has a percent of load display, which is in essence a vacume gauge. i keep that number under 30% around town and under 50% on the highway, that has helped raise it. This computer reads almost all the aprimeters of the ECU, so you cna pick and choose our method. nipper
  9. i got it up from 19 to 21, 1lmost 22 by using a trip computer, the 27 plus came via a tuneup and replacement of the 02 sensor, before that it was 19/24 nipper

  12. It's the fact that the car is green. Green cars get better gas mileage im getting about 20-22 in urban driving and 27 on the highway. nipper

  15. He doesnt have a clue. Did they bleed the system? like i said it pushes the TO bearing, been like that since the begining of time. It could be just bad timing, but maybe you lost the seals in the slave and or master cylinder. i usually replace them both. nipper

  17. from haynes "When pressure is applied to the clutch pedal on a cable operated system, the clutch cable pulls the outer end of the release lever. When the lever pivots at it's fulccrum point on a ballstud, the inner end of the lever pushes against the release bearing, which slides forward on the input shaft against the diaphram fingers ...." a hydraulic system pushes against the clutch fork, then it works the same. it could be he was confusing the two, as cables cant push they can only pull. The cable can be adjusted to the proerp height. Now my question is did they replace the clutch cable? It sounds like to me (cable is always overloked) like the cable stretched out/borke or is going to break. nipper nipper

  19. i need to take off my front grill on the 97 OBW to install the air horns and driving lights. How does this come off, i couldnt bend that well the other day to look and poke around, i see the top clips, but there must be screws someplace also. cars almost all up to date, now i just need to get the power antenna to go all the way down, you think i need a mast? How much of a bear is this to chnage? nipper
  20. Subaru's chief designer, Andreas Zapatinas, has resigned, effective the end of last month, but it is believed he was fired. GOOD! Maybe he was the one responsible for that stupid dash desighn where you cant install an aftermarket radio. Also those dull colors on the legacy nipper
  21. spring side is always toward the engine. That is the part that reacts to the heat and opens the tstat nipper
  22. im not familiar with this, but the three gaslines are fuel from pump to engine fuel from engine to tank Vapor line If its just a fuel leak, like a rotted hose, anyone can fix it, but dont drive the car. Have all the hoses replaced balck there. There is an outside chance that it is a rotted line, but thats repairable too nipper
  23. with the timing belt you replace waterpump re seal oil pump cam seals main seal tensioner inspect idler pullies thermostat radiator cap then your good for 100,000 miles. There are a few differnt axles for the car, so get it out of the same car. Check a parts store it may be reasonable. Turboing the car. It can be done but much easier to swap in a turbo motor then convert one. You just cant throw a turbo on these things without a lot of exciting things happenening, all bad, Autos dont move fast. nipper
  24. 7-10 years is good tire life. You want to store them out of the sun, as that can be murder on rubber. i would store them laying down, and on something if on dirt. nipper
