  1. replace it before you get codes. Always easier to replace things on your terms then the cars. nipper
  2. pull the codes but a timing belt off a tooth the car wont run. nipper and welcome to the club .. if you didnt pay alot for the car you may have got a bargin
  3. nope just meant that it was adjusted wrong. It only holds one wheel, and only when the car is at an incline. The sensativity can be adjusted, and man the thing is a godsend in stop and go traffic nipper
  4. i think you have hit it right on the head. i dont remeber how they work, if its a direct lever or a short cable. But that is what the problem is. nipper
  5. autozone may know... also try the subaru dealer part department. They would love to sell you a new wheel speed sensor, and my gut is telling me thats what it is. The abs isnt all that complicated as far as trouble codes. nipper
  6. There are two temp sensors. One is for the temp gauge on the dash, the other is for the ECU. The ECU one is the one that i think may be bad. Get yourself a haynes manual when you have the codes pulled. engine you can wet down with a hose if you wanted.. but im thinking more its the temp sensor. another possability is the ignitor, but get the manual first and read it then we can try a few things nipper
  7. Is this for an airplane? go to the transplants section they may have information there. nipper
  8. Actually you are correct. The only thing you left out is that rwd is prefered for trailer towing over FWD. The sandbags really are overkill and all its going to do is kill your gas mialage. A good set of all season radials would serv e you better. The only thing you have to watch out for as in any vehical is packed snow, as that can get the drive wheels off the ground and your not going anywhere. nipper
  9. Plastic/carbon? or do you mean nylon? OK get some nut buster/liquid wrench and soak it really good and for a few hours. Then repeat and repeat. Hopefully its just frozen and not cross threaded. nipper
  10. I've been looking at the OBDII readers, and seeing the laptop versions. On ebay there is one that plugs into the OBDII port that is uglier then sin and way too much money for what it is. I know that the travel puters pull this information right off the ECU and all they are is just the display for the raw data. Has anyone ever thought of building one of these wo use as a trip puter in the car. I know form the ebay one there is a ton of info you can pul up off it in real time. Just a thought .. i may have too much time on my hands. nipper
  11. HAHAHAHAHA i forgot about that.. i think that was a chrysler product. nipper
  12. Actually you can be that lucky. Physically inspect the whell sensors. i dont remeber anyone ever really diging into the ABS trouble codes as they seem to be relativly trouble free... try doing a search here and see what comes up. nipper
  13. Hey careful with the queer remark .. i dont even think thye would do that. it is so nausating, and here we thought the subaru tribecca was odd looking ....
  14. You know that sounds reasonable. It is reading it in real time and has no buffer and no time delay. And actually at times you are getting 99mpg .. going down hill foot off the throttle. Wait to hear from someone else with a trip puter, it may just need to have the ECU flashed, as that is where it is getting the information from. My gut feeling is that it is fine. What you want to read is avg MPG not real time MPG, which is what your seeing now nipper
  15. The reason most hill holders dont work is that they need to be adjusted. Its actyally a very simple little device. I've been known to transplant them into other cars i have owned nipper
  16. Try starting off from a dead stop in third gear. If you can do it smoothly without the car stalling your clutch is slipping. nipper
  17. I have BFG on my car and am very happy with them, have had them for 4 months now. I would love the goodyears, but they are too pricey right now as i am not working. nipper
  18. How in hell did they charge 340.00 for something that even jiffy lub charges less then 100.00 for. I would go be very angry with that shop. A rebuilt engine can be had for that money. Not only would i never go to that shop again i would be filing complaints against them and demand a refund. That said head gaskets can be done for around 1100. First thing to do id make sure all the air is out of the system. Second is a hydrocarbon test or have the car run without the radiator cap on and see if there are any bubbles. Just what did they do for 300.00? nipper
  19. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44195&highlight=seat this may help nipper
  20. Assuming you have no speeds what so ever ild say the motor died. If you only have high speed its the resistor block. Test the blower motor for power on high, as high bypasses the resistor block, but hey these things dont last forever nipper
  21. That would work, just i too never heard of this before. Just watch your bel tension. Maybe a double pully is meant for this waterpump? nipper
  22. actually no grease in there, as it is jewled like a watch. i suspect the coil that makes the needle w swing is starting to go bad (and can sty like this till the wheels fall off the car). Once the coil heats up everything is fine. ONe of those learn to live with it or fix it things. nipper
  23. Keeping in mind that these are unibody cars with light weight noses and a little underpowered, may just be better off investing in a really good snow blower. Snow plow can beat the hell out of a vehical, especially a unibody, and the drive train. nipper
