Compression 60, 60, 100, 100 (1,3,2,4) Whats wrong?
nipper replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
have you done a wets compression test. I know alot of sites say it cant be done, but it can on a sooby. If the numbers come up you have tired rings, if they dont you have tired valves nipper -
There are entire sites devoted to putting subaru power plants, including turbos, into vanagons, synchros, westfelias ... The VW powerplants are horrible motors, and very very touchy. You think we have headgasket issues, you should hear all the complaints about the VW powerplants. Also keep in mind the VW deisel vanagon had the award for being the slowest thing accelerating 0-60, and was deemed dangerous for that reason. Makes the car down right fun to drive from what I hear. http://www.smallcar.com/convert.htm just one site nipper

OK the reason why its not a Subaru warrenty is that it sounds like this was done in house at a subaru dealer. Normally a Factory rebuily engine is what is called either a long block or a short block. If you had one of these sunaru would be more then ahppy to honor the warrenty. I would notify subaru about this dealer having sold you a "subaru rebuilt" engine, when it was not. In the meantime you are stuck with having to go back to the original dealer. nipper

As long as your not towing a boat at 75mph or have the car otherwise fully loaded you will be fine. Do you find the justy comfortable on these long high speed runs? nipper -
Did you check side clearance with a feeler gauge. There is a spec for this in the manual. Gte your habnds on a micrometer and a caliper and check the bearing and the journal, and make sure the math adds up. nipper

It all comes out as one. The only time ive seen it broken up on the car is to replace the AWD clutchpack. nipper -
odd i got 19-36 and everything in between on my 98 legacy Fuel tanks is actaully two fuel tanks wwith 50% of the volume. It holds 14.9, and when the light comes on it usuallly about 2 gallons left ion the tank. What legacies are notorous for are they fule tanks level sensors getting dirty and reading on the low side of the tank. The low fuel light is ALWAS corrrect, so go by milage and the light nipper

I would take the car to another shop, unless they are making a super sweet offer. They screwed up hence why they want to make a deal, which may be homorable on thier part, but if i wanted to keep the car (especially since you did the right thing), i'ld fight for a refund on the labor at the very least, and have someone who knows what he is doing fix ir. nipper

Search the threads here, the HVAC are easily replaceable with bulbs from radioshack, it just takes a little careful work. PRNDL light is easy, its just a matter of taking apart the console, its a standard bulb. Room light, check the door switch. There is a way to repalce the stero lights, but it may juts be easier to get yourself a new radio off ebay if you want OE or an aftermarket, which would be much better. nipper

It sounds as if you have a bad fork in the transmssion, or a bad synchro. I'm thinking a badly shot synchro. I would change the fluid and drain the fluid thry wither a paint strainer os cheese cloth and check for metal parts. Also watch the color of the fluid, if it looks goldish in color, those are brass paritcles etc nipper

its not uncommon for a new windsheild to break during installation too. It really is all about temp and applying an even pressure on the windsheild. you have to push out from the inside of the car. The safest thing to use is your feet. If the windsheild breas, your feet are better protected then your hands. This is one of the few things i gladly pay somone else to do, and i always get a new windsheild. SUcks to do all that work and the first time headlights hit the used windsheild it twinkles like a moonless night in wyomong.. nipper
