Cheap paint - 2005 Baja?
brus brother replied to mtnpat's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell here in Connecticut it is illegal to sell a car that has had any work done after the factory unless the buyer is notified. This stemmed from an incident where a carrier filled with BMWs rolled over and they didn't think they needed to mention the repairs to buyers. The State Attorney General thought otherwise and the legislature passed a law. Funny from a state that is mockingly referred to as Corrupticut, huh?

A question for Brus Brother regarding transmission hesitation
brus brother replied to arbee524's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry I didn't see the message until just now. Always best to send a Private Message through the board if you want to contact a member. Look at the top right corner of your screen and see under Private Message. I've even been successful getting a moderator to contact a member when they hadn't enabled e-mail or PM contacts on their profile. Basically, the mechanic was able to diagnose it here at Dan Perkins Subaru in CT. based on symptoms. He confirmed it with a test drive and then gave the knowing look to the service manager of "yup, another one". It had to do with a seal not sealing and defective hydraulics within the trany as a result. Hopefully you are still covered under the 5yr/60K drive train warranty or can make the case that it has been going on for a while but only got so bad that you thought to complain. Send me a PM if you need further clarification. The following post might also relate to your problem. I never knew to even look for a "code". G'luck Make : SUBARU Model : LEGACY Year : 2000 Manufacturer : SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. Service Bulletin Num : 166602 Date of Bulletin: MAR 15, 2003 NHTSA Item Number: 10001352 Component: POWER TRAIN Summary: TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT (TCU) CODE 45 AND ALL-WHEEL DRIVE HARSH ENGAGEMENT. *TT

MY00 Auto stuck in 3rd ?????
brus brother replied to SKT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX"Not outa the woods quite yet" ... and isn't that the kind of driving that got you where you are today? I think Sube's are being designed now to accomodate the off-road experience only on the shoulder of the road and only as long as it takes to change a flat tire (tyre if you misspell it). G'luck

YIKES!!! now its a flame thrower!!!!
brus brother replied to jstriker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDamn... I've been following this thread and I can safely say that I would have fallen into this same booby trap. It's startling that the engine tolerance and design is so critical that a defective injector gasket could cause such damage (I'm reminded of o-rings on the ill fated space shuttle!). I may never open the hood on my car again.

Damage from dealer overfilling oil?
brus brother replied to Martinjmpr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've taken my car back for just the same problem. Check it before you leave the dealership and make them drain and refill. After a couple of times doing this to them they'll probably catch on ie wasted oil, wasted time, zero profit... even a dumb dog catches on after you kick it a few times (I've never kicked a dog but I have thought of kicking a service manager or two).

Subaru of America & warranty question!
brus brother replied to Ryan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlmost forgot, on my 2000 GT Legacy AT, SOA replaced the trany at about 31K for delayed engagement where it would hesitate going from R to D. There is a TSB about this known issue. They just gave me another reman tran at 66K (I have the 100K warranty due to initial customer satisfaction with issues the car evidenced, long story but they did the right thing). This time the trany was making a clicking sound in neutral. The dealerships don't do any trany repairs, just order up a remanufactured one from SOA and drop it in. I think you should be able to tweak them for a replacement since you have the service records and your dealer on your side as this is a "pre-existing" condition. Then you can make a nice contribution to the Board with all the money saved.

Subaru of America & warranty question!
brus brother replied to Ryan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would tell them that it started "months" ago and certainly under warranty but that the problem was intermiitent and barely noticeable and you never thought that a car as fine as a Subaru could have problems at such a young age. Not wanting to seem like a complainer, you waited until it got real bad to trouble your kindly service department. Immediately, go and rinse your mouth out for talking such s#@t but hopefully, they'll treat you right. Bottom line, this didn't develop overnight and a trained mechanic might have been able to pick it up 6003 miles ago. G'luck

Clicking sound in rear(interior) of 91 legacy
brus brother replied to coda's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/1992_FSM_(Engine_%26_Electrical)/ Check this out for wiring diagrams, courtesy Legacy777 moderator. It's too early in the morning for my eyes to work so I don't know if your solution is in this Factory Service Manual wiring for a 1992 Legacy. Have you checked all lighting including PB (Parking Brake)? I know, that would be too simple a solution but you never know. Good luck

Harsh transmission engagement,2001 Forester
brus brother replied to jnaught's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHooray for warranties. Apparently this is something new to your car, yes? In that case it is a matter of wear and the drive train is covered against these things at least until the day after the warranty expires. The dealer will probably check to make sure the tranny fluid has been changed at the proper interval (tell them you did it yourself if you haven't already, otherwise, they'll first bill you for a trany service as recommended in the manual $80?) and hope the symptoms and you go away. Then after a while, when you notice that it isn't 100% better and after some more wrangling you may need to meet with the regional rep and then they'll get you a reman transmission. Been there, done that... so much fun I even bought the t-shirt... twice on my 2000GT Legacy.

resetting CEL
brus brother replied to benking's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDid you try disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery for 15 minutes? Worked on older models, haven't tried on my 2000 but the worst thing is you need to reset clock and radio presets.

hey read this one again, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
brus brother replied to chadwick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot sure why the misunderstanding. I was writing in defense of Chadwick who was first criticized for lack of punctuation. I see no need for what I've seen here and on other occasions where people are critiqued for the use of all capital letters, no punctuation etc.. and that was my point. I was being sarcastic in my use of capital letters... get it? Read it again gents. What I did say is that despite advanced degrees and the like, it doesn't matter on this site in particular and for those local members of the site that know me, it matters little in my own life. Stick to the business at hand... grease and cars! Leave the rest to the internet grammar police. Oh, by the way, Chadwick, check your Private Message that I sent hours ago, still confirmed as unread. This should clarify what were my intentions. Sorry it wasn't understood. No good deed goes unpunished.

hey read this one again, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
brus brother replied to chadwick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXENOUGH ALREADY! While I don't expect that any of us on here have doctorate degrees (I do), this nonsense about criticizing punctuation or the ever popular, "Don't use all capital letters, it's yelling!" is absurd. As high as I turn up the volume on my speakers, I've never noticed any "loudness" from capital letters. I've received emails from Wall Street guys who type without any capital letters at all... guess they invest their "capital" in better places. I've seen contributions to this site from guys (and gals) for whom English is a second language, yet they give it their best shot. Bravo. I've gotten letters from others with professional degrees like mine who might seem dumb as dirt as evidenced in their writing, but SO WHAT???? DID YOU HEAR ME???? GET OVER IT HENRY HIGGINS!!!! This site is about sharing Subaru experiences and helping others who may not have the same education OR sensibilities as you. Let's get back to business.

Electrical problem with 90 Loyale
Is it possible that the starter unit was installed incorrectly or is interfering with or damaged the alternator. It might be a coincidence but could you easily disconnect this remote unit, check all grounds to alternator, starter and battery cable connections and see if you still have the warning light problem before reconnecting the remote starter. The relation of your remote starter installation to the light problem may just be coincidence or it mat be the root cause. Sounds like you like to detective work. Can auto stores "check" alternators? G'luck

Is my clutch failing?
brus brother replied to powderhound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAny of you clutch meisters know if a 93 Legacy has one of these adjustable mechanical linkages? I drove one recently that was occasionally slipping in 5th gear. (BTW it also has the tweet from the throwout bearing). The car has about 180,000 miles and the owner doesn't have the $ for a clutch replacement and I'd like to deliver some hope.

CD player problem.
brus brother replied to photo2001's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, if you are going to trash it anyway, here is a site that will tell you how to adjust the laser reader. It's really simple once you're in there and who knows, you may find a nest of dead ants that are the culprit to begin with. I've learned a lot in life by disassembling things that were ready to be trashed and then solved the problem, saved a few bucks and kept the landfills from filling up on my account. Check this site out and let me know how you made out. If you're not interested, mail the sucker to me (2000 Legacy - no CD Player) and I'll play with it. I like challenges. http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/3/24/45212/6874

Subaru Discount Parts
brus brother replied to Len's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDiscountparts.com (I think) 1-888-782-9493 and specify you want the "Discount Parts" pricing. It's the on-line discount version of Liberty Subaru in NJ. At least they're on the east coast. Prices comparable to the others mentioned above but a little shorter delivery time.

"carwash" wax on windsheild removal???
The simplest, cheapest, non streaking and most effective window cleaner I've ever used is white vinegar diluted 60/40 with water. Google it and you'll see all the testimonial the web has to offer.

Hi! We are new here and our wipers don't work!!
brus brother replied to ibwonderful's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHad the same problem after heavy snow. Apparently the nuts are torqued on with a mind to loosening instaed of burning out the motor if the wiper is held back by ice, snow or other obstruction. Stupid seats... smart wipers.
