How long are the codes stored after the ECM resets the CEL. On my $20 top o the line code reader/eraser, once I erase, it doesn't show any stored codes.

Unless there is a new "pending" code (code pending, waiting for a second hit but no CEL yet), the computer has cleared the old codes and there won't be anything stored. Props to your daughter for nosing around.

The Check Engine Light is often referred to as the "Money Light" Get the codes read not erased and then report back here where you will be charged absolutely nothing!

Likely not related to the battery change but, off topic, when replacing the battery on the MY 2017, do you need to have the computer recalibrated for the charging circuit of a "new " battery. I miss my 1984 GL...

check cv boots? splashing that grease onto exhaust is a peculiar smell. I once snagged a plastic shopping bag on the exhaust and it took a while for that to burn off and the smell to go away.

@GD. Just became the owner of a 2019 OB 2.5 that uses synthetic. What brand do you recommend? In the past, with my porous 05, I used the cheapest Dino I could find as it spent little time in the engine before fouling my driveway and undercoating the engine bay. As an aside, as I near 70 years on my personal odometer, I am thrilled that the oil filter now sits atop the engine for easy access. If only the drain plug was relocated to the front bumper...
