  1. Saw a few posts on the Foz site about similar issue but not here. My 08 Outback started suffering the wonky rear handle at the hatch where it wouldn't spring back once opened. Started squirting lithium grease at the side pivot points but then looked a little closer and noted the spring mechanism above the handle. Spraying the grease up there did the trick. I have attached a pic of mine all gooped up but another pic of someone not as lazy as myself who decided to disassemble the rear gate showing the spring mechanism.
  2. I would point you back in the direction of the store that sold you the alternator... Who tested the alternator?
  3. try swapping 1 and 3 wires to see if the fouling travels with the wire.
  4. I'm impressed if you had one of those 2005 POS combo radio/hvac units lying around. Don't forget the poor ground connection in the area behind the face plate at #3 button that causes the entire unit to go blank (no radio/no hvac). Just tap on the area or open and resolder.
  5. Not yet. I'm working on the engineering drawings to input into SOLIDWORKS to recreate the anti-splash oil drain pan. Imma gonna be rich!
  6. Yup long press on speech BUT once phones are USB connected, even that Help menu/choice is gone as Google Assistant/Android Auto takes over and doesn't give a rat's rear about Subaru. As other posters/sites have suggested, register your complaint with SOA. Incredibly, the rep I spoke to said that mine was the first such complaint he had heard of the issue. OK, sure. You are still under 3/36 warranty so make them work to explain how they "engineered" this option. Start with your dealer and then progress to SOA in NJ.
  7. Yeah, I know I could open the window and use hand signals but the car did come with that stick on the steering column with the auto blinky things. My latest was an 05 with nothing on the steering wheel but dust and food crumbs. Reaching down isn't so much an issue as looking down. I have to say I have gotten used to radio and phone volume controls etc. on the wheel without looking down. I was actually partial to the few remaining dial controls pre MY20s when they then introduced full touch controls like an iPad. Dealer checked other MY 19s on the lot and confirms. From other subie sites, it seems to work on 17s and 20-21s. Apparently 18-19 was Harmon Kardon head unit. I guess they consider it a feature to reduce functionality? BTW, any more wise cracks and I'm gonna bring yas up on charges of elder abuse OR start posting my own tips for extra long funnels or spill proof oil drain pans. Now... get off my lawn!
  8. When I press the speech icon on the steering wheel it allows me to command phone, media, fan speed and temp control. When my android phone is USB connected, I lose the fan and temp function as the Google assistant comes up instead of the on board voice recognition program. I have tried the "long press" on the speech button as there is some mention in Starlink/iphone/Siri but with my Android phone, it still opens the Google assistant. Any tips or tricks.
  9. What is a Luddite today? Neo-Luddism or new Luddism is a philosophy opposing many forms of modern technology. The term Luddite is generally used as a pejorative applied to people showing technophobic leanings. The name is based on the historical legacy of the English Luddites, who were active between 1811 and 1816.
  10. at last a professional recommendation... I will only shop "black, round tires!"
  11. I can't believe that this tire isn't listed for my 08 outback due to speed rating. Everything else specs out except the above tire is only rated for V (130mph) and SOA specifies oem at H (149mph) Um, I think I'd have other problems at 130 mph other than worrying whether the tires will stay on the rims! WOOOOOOOSH
  12. OK, the Medium Wizard of Volt then Appreciate your input. You would think SOA could at least warn about the gotcha.
  13. All "switches" are gone. Don't worry though, the rear gate has now become the battery killer switch. Posted HERE Campers and tailgaters have discovered that system readiness of the hatch motor quickly drains the battery, especially troublesome if you are camping in remote areas. https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/tailgate-open-battery-drain.517663/ There are various solutions using a caribiner to trick the lock mechanism. Seems like there should be a software upgrade but according to the Grand Wizard of Volt (member Rampage) the circuitry is fairly complicated.
  14. is that for Limited? I have a Premium. I'll have to try the "handshake" and report back.
  15. Hey Nipper. Finally figured out how to change display settings for tire pressure from metric (factory set) to standard! I was in FWD mode (Fiddling While Driving) the other day and by mistake started hitting the paddle shifter instead of the "i" selector for the display settings DOH! Note to self: the 2019 does not like first gear at 30 mph. Note to self (2): Read the friggin' manual
  16. How's this? size is right. all season. Rated for 130 mph, they also have H version (HP II) rated for 149 mph. How relevant is this? Toyo Extensa A/S II 225/55R17 107V Passenger Tire $90.35
  17. Me too. I have the 2019 Premium model. Congrats on the Limited upstep ;-) I love the fact that the cpo gives you 7 years and 100k power train from date of service instead of the 5 years 60k if purchased new. btw, cv joints are included in the drive train warranty and you bet I will have them inspected before the warranty expires. do you notice any wind noise issue at the driver window area?
  18. Never used Toyo before. Which model did you get? Are you happy with them? How did the price break down? In CT I see Town Fair mounts free but charge $25 per tire for stem and balance...
  19. All good info. The problem I see with going with Michelins at twice the price of the others is that if you have a failure with one tire and need to replace all 4 to appease the AWD gods, it's a hurting feeling. I do keep my cars garaged so UV degradation is minimized. If on average 12-13K/year drives, that's roughly 3.5 years on a 45K mile tire so even without lathering on sunscreen, it should last. Probably looking at a mid grade tire for the above reasons. Only other question I haven't been able to sort out is "road noise". I once bought Triple Tred and they were extremely loud from day 1.
  20. Need a set of all season tires for New England driving. 2008 Outback. Any suggestions for value 225 55 17 appreciated. Prices seem all over the place.
