P0303 is Baaaack! I swapped cylinder 1 and 3 wires a few months ago but the code doesn't follow the wires. Still showing cylinder #3. Was pretty cool and rainy around here for a few days then popped over 90 today. The garage was dripping with condensation. Ran rough until I opened the hood outdoors and let the humidity settle down. Coil? If coil it is, any opinions on decent aftermarket or any ole one'll do?

found it Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) I bought a reman unit for my 05 and all is well. I will try and find the invoice and update post. Found it: Partsgeek.com for around $250 There are always $15 coupons floating around. Let me know if you need one. They are always bombing my mailbox. 1 2005 Subaru Outback Driveshaft Brand A1 Cardone SKU 65-7001 Tracking Number 358507715197109 Shipped with FedEx on Aug 06, 2018 Re-orderReview Product Qty Ordered 1 Qty Shipped 1 Price $241.98 Core $20.00 Looks like the prices have jumped in the past 3 years YIKES its now at $338 for the same part. I would probably still go the cheapest route. They either work or not.

I bought a replacement for ~$200 for my 05 OB and may have posted the source. I'll noodle back through my history and check... stay tuned. Sold the car recently and pitched all the paperwork. It was either through RockAuto, Parts Geek or Carparts.com I likely went for the cheapest one figuring they would either work or not and the car already was approaching 200K. The local rebuilders wanted nothing to do with this shaft here in CT.

TSB 07-179-20 This bulletin announces a design change made to the PRG control module. This change is in response to a limited number of customer concerns regarding the vehicle’s battery becoming discharged after the rear gate is left open for an extended period of time. The discharge occurs because current PRG control module logic keeps CAN communication active. Logic changes have been incorporated into the new module to allow the CAN system to “go to sleep” after a period of time to prevent current draw and optimize operation of the PRG system.

Saw a few posts on the Foz site about similar issue but not here. My 08 Outback started suffering the wonky rear handle at the hatch where it wouldn't spring back once opened. Started squirting lithium grease at the side pivot points but then looked a little closer and noted the spring mechanism above the handle. Spraying the grease up there did the trick. I have attached a pic of mine all gooped up but another pic of someone not as lazy as myself who decided to disassemble the rear gate showing the spring mechanism.

I'm impressed if you had one of those 2005 POS combo radio/hvac units lying around. Don't forget the poor ground connection in the area behind the face plate at #3 button that causes the entire unit to go blank (no radio/no hvac). Just tap on the area or open and resolder. -
Yup long press on speech BUT once phones are USB connected, even that Help menu/choice is gone as Google Assistant/Android Auto takes over and doesn't give a rat's rear about Subaru. As other posters/sites have suggested, register your complaint with SOA. Incredibly, the rep I spoke to said that mine was the first such complaint he had heard of the issue. OK, sure. You are still under 3/36 warranty so make them work to explain how they "engineered" this option. Start with your dealer and then progress to SOA in NJ.
