I have had sipilare problems with 11 meter(cb)radios. normal 40 ch runs on am. try the ground on your anteana, if its grounded onyou still get noise, try a filter inline of your power suplly if none of this works, try replacing ignition wires or getting a new am/fm anteanna from radio shack.

How hard was it to swap in that 100 amp gm alt?
-
How much is power does the standard produce? About 60-70amps?
-
I know its a little more than a standard alt. but don't know by how mush. I have been thinking about using an xt alt. also because of the cb radio i have uses ALOT of power
-
done that before. Is everything in the front end stright? I once dystroyed both front rims and tires because i hit a curb at 45 mph in the snow. Luckuly i hit it stright on. I hit a pole playing in the snow with the wheels tuned and trashed the strut rod and control arm once also. ooops, but i guess thats half the fun
-
Yeah, just lots of snow. I usually hade that happen if the snow was going over the hood or i was really pussing alot of snow with the bumper and grill. Nothing to worry about to much.

thats appened to my stock 91 loyale when bashing through the deep snow. I think the bely just gets wet and slips a litttle.

1983 wasn't THAT long ago
mudduck replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Speaking of local shops that deal with subarus and only subarus, if you are in Colorado, around Golden, there is a place called the mobile mechanic. This guy has been working on subys since the mid seventie's and knows his stuff!!! He is the only one any of my subys would go to if i could't fix them my self. Its to bad i am not in colorado any more. I don't think i would find a shop like that in North Carolina. I have only seen one other older subaru on the road here since i moved. -
Had an 86 brat that i overloaded all the time!! You know your overloaded whem you have to use 4wd to get going and the front wheels pick up off the ground from the smallest bumps!

91 loyale check engine light
mudduck replied to mudduck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok i oulled the air intake off the throttle body and remaved the top part pf the throttle body and sprayed the hell out of the throttle body with cleaner. I guess i will have to see if the light comes back on or not. it sure does idle smoother and responds a little better thougf. There sure was alot of gunk and goo and crap built up in there. -
83 turbo wagon radiator: recovery?
mudduck replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 86 brat had no recovery tank so i just took on old coke bottlr, drilled a hole in the cap and fed a piece of hose through that for the recovery tank. it sat perfect under the hood on the right of the radiator -
the t-case is just wound up. backing up a little should upwind it

It doesn't happen all the time, about once or twice a month but its starting to happen more often now -
Nice! Everybody likes a muddy sube!

I have a 91 Loyale wagon that the check engine light comes on every now and then. When the light comes on, the idle constantally canges, going from 800 rpm up to about 1500-2000 rpm and back down rappidly. Any ideas? Thanks

Oil & Battery recommendation..
mudduck replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I ahve alsays used quacker state 10-40 and fram filters in all the vehicles I have owned. As for a good battery, i use optimas (have three actually, one under the hood, and two in back run off an isolator to run my 1000 watt cb radio hope the nobody from the fcc reads this board!!!) The red top optimas have like 900 or so cca and seem to last forever, especially after what i have put them through. Save your money and go with the optima and you won"t be disappointed. -
Don't go with a Justy. If you want low range look for a 80 through 89 gl or dl. I have a 91 Loyale with a single range t-case and seems to do ok in the sand, though i wish i had low range. When you do find a subaru, find the widest tires you can if your going to play in the sand and air down so you don't sink. Good luck

lincoln for the road? high power hatch!
mudduck replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Damn!!! How much power is thet moter putting out? Anyway, with that much power, I would stay away from a welded rear end.....thats just asking for trouble. Slap some wide tires on it and see what happens. -
how did you got rwd? just pull the front axles and engage the t-case?
-
Had a stock 86 brat I took through a hole like that once. Well i should say over because i hit it FAST!( 3rd gear, lo range!!!) and skimmed over the top!!! Any way, cool vidios and i hope that moter lived. I have a 91 loyale now that i hope to make into a crawler. Had an 88 toyota 4x4 that i crawled with in colorado, was going to get another toy but now i think i want to build a subaru, just to be different. just wish the 91 loyale had duel range insted of the push button single speed(yuk!) t-case. Any how, have a wet one!

92' Loyale, push button 4wd hard dissengage
mudduck replied to travis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You dont have to have the same tread on your tires, i had 4 tires that were all different tread (i had no money, the tires and were free, sure handled strange with snow tires on only the back) they just have to be the same size. even if you have matching tires, they will never be exactaly the same size do to pressure, weight of the car front to rear, side to side, were, ect, ect, . Any way i just thought i would throw that in there -
92' Loyale, push button 4wd hard dissengage
mudduck replied to travis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
MY 91 does the same thing. you should be OFF the gas and have the cluch in when shifting from 4wd to 2wd or the other way around. yhe t-case just gets wound up. on ANY 4wd vehicle you MUST have the same size tires or you could cause serious driveline damage. If it has trouble going back to 2wd stop, and go in reverse to "unwind" the t-case. -
