the 185 tire will fit with no problems under the hood, You should run all your filters, extended diff breathers arn't a bad idea if you are going to frequent deep water, as far as exploring off road, have good tow points, carry at least 1 good tow strap, shovle, and a jack. A few spare parts, like belts, air filter a couple of quarts of oil, and of course a few basic tool. Hope this helps.

mudduck replied to NathanialBaker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't think anyone will come close to 1800 for a ratle canned non runner -
Yeah, btut what sucks is when you forget to add washer fluid BEFORE you go mudding

MOAB meet April 15, 16, 17.
mudduck replied to the sucker king's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
damn, if I were still in co, but moab is 2 day drive from nc. when we would go out there a bunch acouple years ago we always camped off of kane creek road. Its right along the river there are spots right across from moab rim trail or a little further up kane creek road. not to far from town, maybee 5 miles or so and pretty much right off the river (kane creek road follow the river for a few miles) I can look in the moab books I have if you would like detailed directions -
take your time! 4wd helps you to get going but really dont help you stop and it doesnt make you stick to the road(alot of soccer moms though this in co. funny it was always the newer suv to be the first ones to crash) dont mash on the gas when accelerating and dont slam the brakes when stoping the key is to the tires turning, a spinning tire isnt getting traction, nor is a locked up tire one of the best things to do is find a open snow covered parking lot(with nothing to run into) and rally around get the car to slide and see how it does in the snow. play around and get a feel for your car in the slick stuff

I had an 86 Brat that I beat the crap out of. I even got rear ended by some idiot driving 40 mph(i was sitting still) tialgate wouldnt open any more but the guy i sold it to still has it. saw it on the road last summer. wish i could have afforded to keep it and do some work to it. I love how my loyale handles. when i was in co. i would drive the sube when the snow was real bad because it did so much better than my 88 toyota 4x4. Its not the prettiest thing on the road, the front fenders are rusting away and its got a little bit of "custom" body work but gets great milage, 4wd and hasn't ever realy let me down.

I got 207,000 or so on my 91 loyale. hardly uses any oil between oil changes
-
I had 260,000 on my 88 toyota 4x4 and it still ran great, just left a nice pool of oil anywhere it was parked when i sold it
-
Check all the fluid levels and if the rear end locked up, you might want to check te tranny. even though you were on pavement the rear end should not have locked up.

Why do people hate Loyales?
mudduck replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got cought in a really bad hail stormm in colorado last summer, and people thought i was nuts going through bumper deep water that would have only been hub deep on there h2s and lexus suvs, my little loyale handles better in the ice and snow in 2 wheel drive that my 88 toyota 4x4 ever did -

I love my 91 loyale, exept how bad the rust has gotten on the front fenders, and that stupid door lock light, other that that, it gets good miiage, its 4wd, though a low range would be nice at times I got power windows and there basic, not alot to mess up. It is kind of hard to find used parts around my area though, not just for loyals ut many older roos -
In a away it would be safer to not have a cat seeeing as how hot they get. They can get hot enough to catch dry grass under the car on fire, exhaust pipes dont get nearly as hot as the cat

Best All-Round Tires for EA82
mudduck replied to 85Sub4WD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use tires that are round, have a some decent tread, and hold air. I have had a miss match of worn out snow and crappy street tires for a while but I finnaly got a set of matching tires a few months ago. I think they are coopers and the y seem decent for all around stuff -
what happens if you tow an AWD improperly?
mudduck replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
