MOAB meet April 15, 16, 17.
mudduck replied to the sucker king's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Golden spike is probley doable in a lifted subaru, but a welded rear would be a huge help. Gemini Bridges is fun Hells revenge, fins and porcipine should be doable -
por 15! thats the name of that stuff!! It wotks pretty good as far as stoping the rust. Some of that around the windshield frame should take care of the rust peoblems, then seal the hell oput of the windsheild and the leaks should be gone

I ussualy just set my drinks betwween the hand break and the driver seat. seems to work ok. just got to remamber there is a drink there if you slam the breaks
-
A strip of duct tape will at least slow down the leak for ya :-\ I had a toyota truck that did the same thing, and the duct tape fix kept all the water out till I git it fixed I'll try to remember the stuff you are talkikng about and post the name if I can remember it

Rear Tires Not Riding Straight
mudduck replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It sounds to me like you might have tweeked somthing. Get underneath the car(if you have access to a lift even better)and compare how everthing looks from the right side and the left side. If any thing is tweeked it should be obvious, from your discription, it is quiet noticable just by loooking at the rear tires. -
mY bumpers are black, and black is a color
-
lol That would be one fast vehicle!!! I don't know if a sube tranny could hold that kind of power, but sounds like an interesring swap

I change the oil when I feel it needs to be changed. When the oil starts to look dark on ythe dipstick, is ussually when it gots changed. My toyota truck it got changed about every 1000 mi because it didn't get driven a whole lot, and when it did, it was usually off road My subaru git an oil change about every 2000- 3000miles

About 24-31 miles per gallon. The best was 34 driving from Co to NC The worst was 17 when I was miudding and really on the gas.

Lights mounted on the bumper
mudduck replied to LoyaleFan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks good, I thing I might use that desigh to mount lights on the friont of my 91 loyale -
Yeah, I am thinking about the gm swap, or maybe even doing dual gm alts. I don't ever think I would need a 325 amp alt, plus its case is about 9" Leece Nevile build them from 30 amps on up, so I might see if I can get a 200 amp to fit, when I have the $$$$
-
Makes me think of that scene in Dunb and Dumber, when they get pulled over, and they have all the beer bottles on the floor, but they didn't have beer in them!
-
The leece's are use in industrial applications, where alot of power is needed, or for what these guys do. Check out this link, some of these suberbans have 6 of these alts under the hood! http://www.bigradios.com/avis/

Might not be a bad idea to replace the timing belts. Woullnd't hurt to do a tune up and such before your trip also. Cheers!
-
That is a NICE looking cage in you buggy! When you cut up a unibody vehicle, a good sturdy cage is important. Cherokee are unibodys and that what alot of guy do when they cut the back sections of the roof off to gwt the support back into the unibody

I here ya. I always take in the old belt just to make sure I get the right ones, I keep two small belts and two big belts stashed on the spare. I hate getting home just to turn around and exchange belts and such

Are there any decent junkyards that any one might know of around Asheboro, N.C.? I moved out here from CO where you see older subies on an every day basis and it was easy to find used parts. Out here, you hardly see newer ones and I almost never see older ones. Did see an older ea 81 4wd wagon that was Very clean, almost went of the road trying to get a good look at it!

I found a company that makes BIG POWERFUL alternators. they have alts from 40 amps all they way up to 325 amps. Thats right you read it correct, 325 amps! I think I might have found my solution for more power. Here is the web site http://www.prestolite.com These are Leece Nevilles alternators, and I don't know if anyone has ever put one in a subaru, but if things work out, I might try to squeeze one under my hood, somday Well, I can dream anyway
-
Yeah, the alt belt seems to run every thing, even the ac pump it looks like, the back belt turns on everything exept the alt, so why the heck is the back belt on there in the first place? just to give the ac pump a little extra grunt? I have never had any problems getting belts from the parts store, at least when in CO. Now If I decide to install a second alt. then it might get tricky.
-
Ok, so I just found that the tensioner pully for the back belt was seized up today. Ripped off the front belt and pulled the back belt and pulled the tentioner and reinstalled the alt belt, and noticed that the alt. belt drives everything that the back belt did. Why is the back belt there? I did notice that when I tuned on the defrost when the back belt was on the car would buck for a second, but that isn't happening with the belt removed. I even turned on the ac for a minute and it seemed to work ok, it never really put out real cold air in the first place. Is it ok to just leave the belt off? I have been running with just the alt belt and seem to have no problems.

No, that winch is to small to pull a subaru out of the mud!! Go with a 5,000 or 6,000 lbs whinch and you'll be set. Check out http://www.warn.com the M6000 winch would be perfect for a subaru. A 2,000 lbs. whinch is better on an ATV

I want one of those buggy's! They look like a blast! And they are street legale!

You moght have to do away with the awd, but I bet a tranny from an ea81 or ea 82 car would work. I know I have raed about guys putting the legacy engine in a ea81/82 cars. could be interesting, somthing i would like to attempt if i had the $$$, and a Legacy
