  1. I didn't start nothing. Just quoting a sticker I saw. Maybe that one was a joke too. Which ones funnier would depend, probably somewhat on yer education, or lack of. I got grand children what look like hippies. They don't smell. Funny thing is, most hippie haters are far too young to even have a clue what a hippie is. Probably THINK they know. Ah, the folly of youth. Ya know, I was down at the local redneck bar on a friday nite a couple of months ago, and some dumb logger (not that all are, but this one was) started giving this hippie looking dude a ration about probably smelling and needing a haircut. I saw what was comming and headed for the back door, stood and watched as long as it was safe. That "hippie" and his friends just wasn't wearing their colors as that bar has a rule about club colors) Before it was over the hippie and about a dozen of his hippie buds (all their Harleys were parked out back) had busted up that logger good. I scooted out the back door just as the ambulance and cops pulled in. Yes, comments about killing are inapropriate, as are ethnic jokes, racial slurs or whatever of that ilk. Stupid too. But I sure like that lifted Soob! Now lets stop this. I think that the feller that said he would go for the killing hippies sticker ought to consider deleting that part, but thats just me. Me, I got hair down to the middle of my back, and am liscensed to carry and often do. My point is just that judging folks by their appearence can be dangerous. I sure aint no hippie pacifist. But I may look like one to some damn fool, when I'm not on the bike or wearing my leathers. Y'all be careful now. Now lets talk about offroading Soobs. Pyro is cause I'm a proffesiona Potter, read clayman, and also a retired wildfire fighter crewboss and tanker driver. Forest Service. Pyro.
  2. I saw one the other day that said "decapitate ignorant rednecks". Didn't think it was any funnier than yours. But on topic, nice ride. Pyro. PS Hate is for losers.
  3. Yupper, I would never run an auto trans 60,000 on the same juice. Sorry, but that's asking for trouble. (I think) On the other hand, around these parts, it is conventional wisdom that auto trans in general are inferior to manual as far as toughness and longevity are concerned. (please note in the above the terms "conventional wisdom" and "around these parts", which is to say, it's just what lots and lots of different folks think. Of course, opinions vary.) One things for sure, I don't like them. Never did. Wont trust them any farther than I can throw one.
  4. When I bought these two Soobs, (86 parts wagon, 85, with shot AT, new engine, great body interior, had sat for five years), I knew zilch 'bout Soobs, except that I was going to create a reliable, lifted dayly driver. And thanks to all the great folks on this board, this is the progress I have made: Hitache carb de-emmisioned, dead AT swapped to DR 5sp, MSD blaster high vibration coil, TOD (probably from sitting for 5 years) gone, new front wheel bearings, axles, ball joints, tie rod ends, most front end bushings, aquired strange tool to pre-load rear wheel bearings (I'll get to them eventually), full sweep mechanical oil pressure and water temp guages, rebuilt power steering pump (yesterday), And best news yet!: Patrick at Ozzified E-mailed this AM and the lift is ready for payment!! So, theres lots to do yet, but I just wanted to say thanks one more time to the great members of this board who made this project possible. I couldn't have done it without you. And thanks for your patients, you know who you are, I'm a bit eccentric and sometimes a PIA, being an old half crippled grumpy redneck logger hippie biker hermit artist potter out in the backwoods of Central Oregon. Thanks guys. Pyro
  5. That seems logical doesn't it? But it doesn't work that way with these. I fugured the same when I was first learning about these engines, and had the darn ticking so badly. Apparently these external oil pumps can suck air when the micky mouse gasket is getting funky. I think part of the reason the lifters can be starved for oil in spite of the gauge reading good pressure is because of where the oil pressure sender is. check it out. Thats just theory on my part. All I know is that a new oil pump fixed my ticking. I probably could have done the same with a re-seal of the pump, but I like new stuff. Good luck. And yes, theres pages and pages on the ticking here. Good reading. Pyro
  6. I really think that "Federal fine" thing only applies to liscensed shops and certainly it applies in states with harsh laws regarding emmisions. Some states really don't give a crap. Oregon has no inspections. And we certainly have no "Federal officers stopping folks and looking under hoods and writing huge tickets for "disabling mandated emission control equipment". I could be wrong about everything I just said except the part about no inpections in some states. Are you saying that even in states with no emmisions testing that we have to fear federal officers stopping us, looking under out hoods and writing huge tickets if they don't like what they see? I guess I don't understand why you said what you said. The man said he has no emmisions testing in Colorado. I am puzzled by your comments. Here in Oregon this is not something that anyone would ever worry about. I suspect the original poster needs not worry either. By the way, I've capped off mine, runs fine, and I anticipate no large fines. "Live free or die" Pyro
  7. CCR does tranny too? If thats true, thats good news. I didn't know. Pyro
  8. I think they are telling you it MIGHT be. But sure, when you do the swap, I expect youll be doing a new throw out bearing and piot bearing. Sure is a good time to that output shaft bearing too. I think your bound to loose the rumble. Good time to do the Rear main too? Pyro
  9. Mine is integrated/spot welded to/on top of, the cat at the Y of the Y pipe. Heat sheild on this 85 has been removed, cat gutted, sheild replaced. I want to take the gutted cat and cut out of the Y pipe, and just install a fabbed up heat sheild, just havn't had time to figure out how yet. But I will. Pyro
  10. Yes, front bearing seals on both my 85 and 86 are different inside and out. Hope to tackle rear next week. Pyro
  11. I couldn't find any aluminum behing the shop in the scrap piles when I was figuring out how to do this, but discovered that PVC will work. I now carry those spacer I made in my tool box. Probably wont last as many jobs as aluminum, but it's what I had. Good luck Pyro
  12. That was a dumb mistake on my part, I know better. Sorry. I need to pay closer attention. Pyro
  13. That would be the tiny one that fits in the center of the flywheel.
  14. Yup, I too think you can do better. Many do. I did. Have you time to continue shopping? Wash and Oregon are Soob heaven. Many many of the these cars around in various states of disrepair. Pyro
  15. Yes, what they have all said. That hole is supposed to be there. Casting strangeness. The first time I saw it I freaked. Then I got another EA82 and it has the same hole! You have not described one thing that would positively indicate a "blown" moltor. I think you have several minor problems, as described by others. It seems like your worst problem is the lack of a place to work on the car. Is that problem insurmountable? Are you sure? If you can figure that one out, and can become willing take the time to sort out your Soobs problems, you'll problably wind up with a GREAT vehicle, for WAY less than a new car. You obviously have internet/computor axcess, so that is going to be your saving grace, IF you can hang in there and find the time and the space to work on this neat car your self. The experts here will bend over backwards to help you learn what you need to learn. (I'm no expert, but like to help when I can) How ever, IF it's true that you have no where to work on it, and can not create that space somehow, then,----------uh, yup, it's the proverbial tributary and means of locomotion cliche. hehe! I think this is one of the more important points to consider while you are making your discisions about this car: They are way more easier to work on and uncomplicated than modern vehicles and many of similar age. Best of luck, Pyro
  16. CCR engines frequently cost more than the "whole car is worth". And many of us put countless hours of labor for repairs and mods. Seems like "worth" is a very subjective concept. I guess my main question is are parts going to be availiable to a shop? Like the synchros and seals that I know will be needed. Thanks for the reply, appreciated. Pyro
  17. You may know this, but they are only 19 bucks at napa. Bought another one Friday.
  18. I know that lots of folks like junk yard trans. I have two highmileage 5spDR, and would like to have one rebuilt, or trade it in for a re-man. Can a good Trans shop do this? Or are Re-mans availiable anywhere? CCR, do they have them? Anyone? I can not rebuild it myself. Are parts even availiable? I know it would be expensive, I don't care. I want a new Trans. Pyro
  19. What about calling a friendly parts house and asking? I'd think they could tell you for sure? And can you tell by looking close before you get things apart?
