differences between EA82 and EA82T pistons etc?
oddcomp replied to Tee Koo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think some people are as confused as i am as to what i meant... usally if you mill the whole head surface the comp goes up if you increase the "bowl" in the head to a larger volume usually from porting and polishing ect then your cr goes down if you take your turbo pistons wich are a dished type of setup and you mill down the ridge around the dish they become flat top pistons and since there is less "stuff" in the combustion chamber you lower the cr that way also now going on the theory that the spfi/carb pistons retain the same wrist pin location and ring land locations they are just a taller piston resulting in higher cr so you have extra material then you could safely mill those downa few thousandth of a inch or so and take pistons built for 9. something to something and reduce it to 8. something to something cr so now we end up with a increase in compression for turbo motors but not a huge giant make things go boom type of increase going from 7. something to 9. somthing also i suspect the things going boom due to hi cr in a turbo motor is mostly related to fueling issue's that the stock ecu just can't compensate for .. but thats for another thread feel free for anyone to correct me if i was wrong on any of my points -
my guess is timing .. either too advanced or the centrifigal weights are sticking.. i think the carby/non ecu cars have centrifigal advance plus vacum advance

hmm know where i can get new pistons built to specs for cheap?? versus the potential to have stock spfi pistons milled down a smidge to achieve my goal for little money? -

jumping on this thread anyone happen to know how much you would need machined off the piston dome to produce about ohh.. 8or8.5:1 compression? -
in the portland u-pullit has motor and drive train axles tranny hubs ect ect figure someone might want to know about it.. that stuff woulda been mine but as usuall not enough green papery substance to pay for it and it was to hard to fit everything in my coat

sheesh northwet .. first its look i found a laptop now your doing cars too! now on a serious note .. thats way sad both that it was stolen and that someone that trusting was taken advantage of bet he never trusts anyone again after this . -
1 thru 5 upshifts are fine if not a tad "stiff" and it only grinds when i downshift while moving above about 3-5 mph from second to first i know of rislone but i thought they only made a motor additive ? or is it the same stuff just used in a non suggested manner? i drained it and added fresh gear oil once it warms up its better as far as shifting but i still get the 2nd to 1st grrrrr

just curious do you have the pitch stopper bracket for the spider intake? if your intercooled and don't have it get ready to hear loud bangs on the firewall from the intercooler.. when you shift under boost i could not find a factory bracket so i made one out of various pieces of 1/8-1/4 inch plates welded up and cut shortened the factory firewall to motor rod and rewelded it together for now its big and ugly when i have the time i will pull it off and take a grinder to it and "clean" it up so it looks at least decent but i bet no matter how much power short of running into a brick wall the dam thing won't bend i'll send you some pics later on if you want to copy it -
so what have you used in your 5speed /5speed dual range in addition to gear oil to make it run more smoother / shift more willingly?

now at one time i had a nice president something or other radio still do somewhere. and a 250 watt foot warmer and a 100 and something inch steel whip antenna on one of my amc eagle wagons .. never really had a problem talking to people hehe but yes i agree tune what you have before you add power or poof .. no more finals in the radio 10-4?
-
well if these fall thru i am close enough to at least look at him funny and chirp my blow off valve a few times lol

hmm of all the tie rod ends ihave replaced and not had that problem then i suggest the following spray said taper /hose it down with some form of lubrication or.. go get about 2-5 lbs of dry ice stick the tie rod end in the cooler with it that good ol -109f temp range will surely contract the metal and make it a tad smaller thus easier to put into old rusted parts or you could keep beating on it and check to make sure they gave your the right parts.. after all its not like its 100 percent correct what the parts store tells you

well zefy my boy it wouldn't take much to change out your silly little carb for a do it yerself injection setup .. just a thought ..
-
wow .. here we got mr wizard and my dum self is the one bumbling thru the megasquirt and edis setups.. is it me or does that seem kinda ironic or sumthing? hey gravity pm me a adress and i will send you some injectors to test /clean i have this nasty little at cruise hickuping that i never had before and the only 2 changes since ihad this install in my wagon are i am now using the stock na/ spider injectors from a junkyard they came with the intake and some of my wire runs are now a bit longer due to mounting certain things differently and i am pretty sure i need some shielded wire for my edis ignition module that might be part of it but i suspect injector problems as well

87 twagon motor 85 rx shell if that helps but yeah various years would be interesting to see "what happens" on the dyno program
