  1. I want to see a subaru commercial with a bunch of rice rockets on them. Not like, honda's or cavaliers, but decoy's. Just dummy cars that look like lowered, 4" exhaust, 22" rimmed ricers.... then have a 2.5 GT & STi come by and completly blow them away. The rice rockets and other cars would spin out of control in the background as the Subaru's continued on their way. Then there could be some lame punchline like "Its time to grow up" or something like that... Or just show a forester on the rubicon and say something like "And this is what all the hypes all about?" Whatever you do, get rid of the biker. What does Lance Armstrong know about AWD? -Brian
  2. I feel the same way Jeremy. The car probably wont even be ready by then. I'll be limping the Legacy up there and hopefully my tires, suspension and brakes will last long enough to get me home -Brian
  3. Me and some locals in Sacramento will be putting on a small road trip to Napa Valley to run Geyser Road. We'll be in Legacy's and Impreza's, however any Subaru is invited to join along. Not sure on times and places. Geyser Road is a beautiful 2 lane road that winds through the lower mountains up north of Napa Valley. Here's a webpage devoted to the road: http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/GeysersRd.htm Who's in???? -Brian
  4. would it be wise to go with a VLSD? Or better to use the real LSD? -Brian
  5. Brett... I assume you guys got this on film as well? I noticed at Funonwheels.com it sais something about CD's available with footage of your events. If possible, i'd like to get my hands on a copy -Brian
  6. Got the rear LSD from an RX, and a spare 3.9 diff to convert it. Problem is the RX diff is from a EA82, and the 3.9 is from my EA81. Will the 3.9 EA81 case bolt into the legacy? and will the EA82 diff hold up to the power of the EJ22T? -Brian
  7. The jump looks great, Jerry... its not hard to contact brett through his own Message board... http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl I suggest contacting him via PM, email or take it to his message board. Thanks -Brian
  8. here's some video of that 1st guy: http://www.funonwheels.net/audio_video/fossvidhi.mpg THats not from this event, thats old video but just to show what they can do I'd love to see video of this event. -Brian
  9. Is this an option offered by subaru that im not aware of?? -Brian
  10. how about that camo tape we saw on the board a while back?? Maybe they make a woodgrain pattern??? Or maybe they can custom make a woodgrain pattern? -Brian
  11. www.subaru4wd.net That pretty much sums up what ive done to my lifted wagon. There are some things that i havent put on the page yet, but it should be updated again sometime in the next year or two -Brian
  12. Nope, thats like a mazda or something Tim. -Brian
  13. /me blushes You guys are too much. Hey, yeah, im in sacramento. I was thinking of selling off my lifted wagon cause i get too much crap from the jeepers... but hell, if your gonna lift yours i might as well keep mine. There's also a guy in Reno that has a lift on order for his Brat. And there's a couple other lifted Rigs too that arent too far (mendocino & another in Fresno). I got your email, but its cool to chat here too. What help is it your needing? Are you planning on fabricating your lift or buy a pre-fabbed lift? There are plenty of connections not too far from us. We have Patrick in San Diego, and John in Eugene Oregon for lift kits. As far as accessories go we have Tony in Medford Oregon and John as well. Tires/wheels/rims... our junkyards are the best on the west coast! Stick around here, and there's much to learn. Email me and maybe we can hit the trails sometime. -Brian
  14. Take that FT4WD 5spd out and sell it, probably worth a couple hundred bucks. -Brian
  15. Nothing really beats a new radiator. But if your broke, like I usually am, then this might help. Its easier if you remove the radiator. EA82 might be harder than EA81, but to do a good thourough flush its easiest out of the car. One of the 1st things you wanna check are to make sure all the fins are clear of debris and not bent. I used my garden hose and backflushed my radiator a few times... then flushed through the cap. It removed ALOT of crap, mind you this is after a few treatments of Penzoil radiator flush (run it in the car before you remove the radiator). After flushing it a few times, and installing the radiator i noticed a drop in temp's, but here in California it didnt take long for the weather to catch up to me. I ended up buying a new radiator and that solved my problem for good -Brian
  16. Anyone here have a copy? or a backdoor link? I could use some diagrams on a '92 Legacy steering, front suspension and axle/brake assembly. -Brian
  17. I believe my wheel bearings are going south. Either that or it maybe the ball joints. Anyhow, ive done wheel bearings on all my older soobs, but never on a Legacy. Does anyone know how much harder it is to remove the old bearings and insert the new? Ive used a wood block and hammer to press the bearings in on my old rigs, but have never seen a hub for a Legacy. Also, by chance would anyone have a scan of the steering knuckle assembly? With CV, hub, rotor, etc...?? Maybe from a FSM or a chiltons or something? thanks -Brian
  18. MPFI started in '83 with the EA81T. Thats the only FI EA81, and of course the turbo model. Your right, turbo is almost useless for off-roading unless you have it tuned to produce max torque/hp at very low rev's... or if your gearing was low enough, you could harness power in the upper rev's. Regardless, your best bet is a well tuned carb and a good exhaust. Look into the Weber DGEV 32/36 as the best replacement, should cost $300 for a whole kit (carb, adapter plate, instructions). -Brian
  19. Subaru = $1200 Lift = $375 Tires/rims = $500 cant get much cheaper than that. That is pretty much all you need. If you want to go extreme, then you'd want to start looking into larger lifts, larger tires. If you want lower gears find yourself a divorced t-case, and a welder... start fabricating some stuff and there you have it. -Brian
  20. On my last wheelin trip i smoked my clutch well before any axle gave me grief. And at the cost of a clutch & time to install, i'd preffer to think of a CV as "wear item". I believe my clutch was giving me problems cause my car was loaded with camping gear and 4 people, climbing a mountainside. With a Brat or a Hatch, your looking at CV's as your weakest link, and the clutch as a close second, depending on the brand of clutch. Also, you can find front CV axles at any Kragen, Schuck's, or Checkers for like $55 to $70, with a core charge. Core's arent a problem cause i never need a broken CV Twice I have gotten away with calling Kragen, and telling them I was quoted $63 for a complete axle from Napa, and they'll beat napa's price by 5%. Might wanna call napa for a real quote though, just to compare. -Brian
  21. Does it happen when you turn or when you accelerate? Does it grind when the Brat coasts or does it only happen when its in gear. Did it make this sound before you gave the car to the mechanic? -Brian
  22. Front end is cake and Eric is right, contact Austin and im sure he'd be willing to help. Rear end is harder. Total parts for front end (both axles) shouldnt be more than $65. -Brian
  23. I think i'll look for a EA81 Hatchback Shell. All it needs is a good tranny & body. Everything else will come from my Wagon. WJM: Im thinking of Subaru MPFI from a EA81T minus the Turbo. Im totally unsure about the engine as of now though, could just do it the easy way and bolton a webber. -Brian
  24. No, im running an open rear end. Wheel placement wasnt a problem, but i had a hard time crossing some of the creeks. I didnt have my disty boot on, and kept getting water in there That and my abused clutch made it very difficult. Plus my car was packed with all my camping gear, and 3 kids... thats something im not used to. Im thinking on version 2.0 there'll be minor upgrades on the carburation, and ignition. -Brian
  25. The mechanic said it was running rich. He advised that I rebuild it. I got a kit, and changed the carb gaskets, but havent had it tested again. It needs a new exhaust, and its pretty beatup now. With its new dent in the door, it looks pretty sad. Also, my drivers side fender got munched real bad, and tore away from the mounts, so it flaps alot. I also bent the lower control arm, and radius rod a while ago. I replaced the lower control arm, but since everything else is bent, the steering is all off. Im thinking of finding a Sedan or Hatchback thats rotting away somewhere, and bring it back to life with the wagon as a donor. Just gotta find the time and place to do it. -Brian
