  1. You would just need to widen the bolt holes, you wouldnt have to modify the radiator. Would look bone stock if done correctly. I called around town and found Kragen had the cheapest EA81 Radiator in town. I was able to get them to beat Napa's Price and I believe I got it for $115 after tax etc... The cheapest online is like $90, so i figure saving 3 days instead of waiting for shipping was worth the extra $25. You always see nice radiators at pick-n-pull, but just makesure you dont pull the one some clown poked a hole in Also, the EA71 should give plenty of room for both Electric EA81 fans, allowing you to remove those rotted out fans you have there now. -Brian
  2. The wires I gave him were the leftover wires from a custom V8 set of 8mm Accell wires. Sorry Steve, I didnt realize you needed instructions, its pretty basic. But to make it easier on yourself, just goto autozone and get a set of wires. Also double check the connections on the coil. My '83 wouldnt run on anything but 2 cylinders when the coil died. And everytime you put it in gear it would studder and die. Got progressivly worse, until it wouldnt run. You can test the coil by removing the coil wire from your distributor cap and hold it a few inches from a solid ground. Have your father or someone crank the engine over and pay attention to the spark it creates. You should get a nice solid arc, not sure what color arc your looking for but you should be able to find more detailed instructions in that Haynes or online. It honestly sounds like very weak spark, or bad gas. Could also be the timing, i never did have a chance to set the timing. -Brian
  3. Here's a good replacement for your standard center console: You can find these in early '80 and '81 Hatchbacks. They might be available in other subaru's as well, but i havent seen many of them. If gotten a couple from the junkyard, here's another one that's setup alittle better: They fit a standard DIN size radio/CD player without any modification. the only problem is it sits at an angle and makes it hard to read most LCD screen's. Also, it seems most CD Players I install into consoles like this, stop working prematurely. Im not sure if its the angle at which is sits, or all the off-roading I do in my car's. But it sure is better than hacking apart the center console like i did with my lifted rig: -Brian
  4. Those plug wires really need to be replaced, and if you re-installed the coil backwards in my garage then you would have similar problems. I'd double check everything, and maybe try to get that coil to work. -Brian
  5. The PVC valve is brand new. I dont know why it wont reach 25mph or run, the thing was running great when i drove it over. You did add more fuel right??? cause it was resting on E. Did you put those new wires on? If so, make sure they're crimped tight. Sounds to me like the car isn't firing on all 4 cyl's. and if thats the case it'd run fine until you tried to reach a higher speed, at which point the spark would be too weak to fire. Lemme know if you cant get it figured out and i'll try to stop by to take a look at it. -Brian P.S. Find a heater hose that fits, or they'll fail you.
  6. Hey Tim, that car looks great! Is vicky going to let you modify it at all? When will we get to see it with a lift Should make trips to subaru shows a breeze. -Brian
  7. Steve, that car needs an oil change. There's a filter in the back, use some Castrol 20w50 in it with a quart of Marvels Mystery Oil. Is oil still making its way into the air filter box?? I think your going to need to get some hoses from the JY cause the original ones fell to pieces. The ones on there now i got from a EA81 at the yard, with a EA82T made to work. Maybe its time for another trip to Carson City?? -Brian
  8. I want to see a subaru commercial with a bunch of rice rockets on them. Not like, honda's or cavaliers, but decoy's. Just dummy cars that look like lowered, 4" exhaust, 22" rimmed ricers.... then have a 2.5 GT & STi come by and completly blow them away. The rice rockets and other cars would spin out of control in the background as the Subaru's continued on their way. Then there could be some lame punchline like "Its time to grow up" or something like that... Or just show a forester on the rubicon and say something like "And this is what all the hypes all about?" Whatever you do, get rid of the biker. What does Lance Armstrong know about AWD? -Brian
  9. I feel the same way Jeremy. The car probably wont even be ready by then. I'll be limping the Legacy up there and hopefully my tires, suspension and brakes will last long enough to get me home -Brian
  10. Me and some locals in Sacramento will be putting on a small road trip to Napa Valley to run Geyser Road. We'll be in Legacy's and Impreza's, however any Subaru is invited to join along. Not sure on times and places. Geyser Road is a beautiful 2 lane road that winds through the lower mountains up north of Napa Valley. Here's a webpage devoted to the road: http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/GeysersRd.htm Who's in???? -Brian
  11. Brett... I assume you guys got this on film as well? I noticed at Funonwheels.com it sais something about CD's available with footage of your events. If possible, i'd like to get my hands on a copy -Brian
  12. Got the rear LSD from an RX, and a spare 3.9 diff to convert it. Problem is the RX diff is from a EA82, and the 3.9 is from my EA81. Will the 3.9 EA81 case bolt into the legacy? and will the EA82 diff hold up to the power of the EJ22T? -Brian
  13. The jump looks great, Jerry... its not hard to contact brett through his own Message board... http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl I suggest contacting him via PM, email or take it to his message board. Thanks -Brian
  14. here's some video of that 1st guy: http://www.funonwheels.net/audio_video/fossvidhi.mpg THats not from this event, thats old video but just to show what they can do I'd love to see video of this event. -Brian
  15. Is this an option offered by subaru that im not aware of?? -Brian
  16. how about that camo tape we saw on the board a while back?? Maybe they make a woodgrain pattern??? Or maybe they can custom make a woodgrain pattern? -Brian
  17. www.subaru4wd.net That pretty much sums up what ive done to my lifted wagon. There are some things that i havent put on the page yet, but it should be updated again sometime in the next year or two -Brian
  18. /me blushes You guys are too much. Hey, yeah, im in sacramento. I was thinking of selling off my lifted wagon cause i get too much crap from the jeepers... but hell, if your gonna lift yours i might as well keep mine. There's also a guy in Reno that has a lift on order for his Brat. And there's a couple other lifted Rigs too that arent too far (mendocino & another in Fresno). I got your email, but its cool to chat here too. What help is it your needing? Are you planning on fabricating your lift or buy a pre-fabbed lift? There are plenty of connections not too far from us. We have Patrick in San Diego, and John in Eugene Oregon for lift kits. As far as accessories go we have Tony in Medford Oregon and John as well. Tires/wheels/rims... our junkyards are the best on the west coast! Stick around here, and there's much to learn. Email me and maybe we can hit the trails sometime. -Brian
  19. Take that FT4WD 5spd out and sell it, probably worth a couple hundred bucks. -Brian
  20. Nothing really beats a new radiator. But if your broke, like I usually am, then this might help. Its easier if you remove the radiator. EA82 might be harder than EA81, but to do a good thourough flush its easiest out of the car. One of the 1st things you wanna check are to make sure all the fins are clear of debris and not bent. I used my garden hose and backflushed my radiator a few times... then flushed through the cap. It removed ALOT of crap, mind you this is after a few treatments of Penzoil radiator flush (run it in the car before you remove the radiator). After flushing it a few times, and installing the radiator i noticed a drop in temp's, but here in California it didnt take long for the weather to catch up to me. I ended up buying a new radiator and that solved my problem for good -Brian
  21. Anyone here have a copy? or a backdoor link? I could use some diagrams on a '92 Legacy steering, front suspension and axle/brake assembly. -Brian
  22. I believe my wheel bearings are going south. Either that or it maybe the ball joints. Anyhow, ive done wheel bearings on all my older soobs, but never on a Legacy. Does anyone know how much harder it is to remove the old bearings and insert the new? Ive used a wood block and hammer to press the bearings in on my old rigs, but have never seen a hub for a Legacy. Also, by chance would anyone have a scan of the steering knuckle assembly? With CV, hub, rotor, etc...?? Maybe from a FSM or a chiltons or something? thanks -Brian
