  1. Carson should have all the GEn1 parts we need. Matt, thats a better plan. I usually cruise at 80-85, and at that speed reno becomes a blurrrrrrrr. Lets say Sparks at noon, 5/15/04. more details later in the Meet & Greet section. -Brian
  2. Brake Cleaner will take alot of crap off an engine block -Brian
  3. We'll fight for the Gen1 Parts!! We're planning on being in Sparks early morning and then hopefully in Carson City no later than 2pm. That should give us enough time to get what we need and still make it back home before dinner Hope everyone that plans to join can keep up with a EJ22T -Brian
  4. saturdays a busy day. Me and steve will be looking for quite a few parts for the 78. Jeremy, IM me when you know if you'll have saturday off or not. -Brian
  5. Doesnt matter what Junkyard Dave goes too... he ALWAYS gets the hookup! Every yard ive been to with him, ive seen him get SMOKIN deals! Like a Full size brushguard for $30, the A-Type Pushbar for $17. $5 cargo covers, $10 wheels.... Dave, we should goto the yard together more often again Speaking of... im planning on being at the PnP in Sparks and then in Carson City on Saturday the 15th. Seems like more members are popping up, maybe its time we all get-together. -Brian
  6. In the Subaru world... modifications are just that, modifications. Most are not educated, but frankenstien'd. Nobody knew 5lug would work on a RX until Corky did it the 1st time. Nobody knew a 5spd would fit behind a EA81 until Ken did it (unless he wasnt the 1st??) nobody knew rear disc's would bolt onto a EA81 until Pat pulled it off. I'm not saying research is pointless, or useless... but you'll often find that the best way to modify your Subaru is through Trial & Error. But, im glad to know im not jepordising anyones life by advertising the ease of the rear disc conversion. -Brian
  7. I think GD was talking about making custom Poly mounts for us EA81 guys. Not sure what ever happend with that. When are you doing the clutch? If you need a hand, let me know and give me a time-frame. I have weekends off now, but this weekend is booked and same as next saturday. Sunday the 16th im free tho. ive done 2 EA81 clutches, and both are cake! Are you going with a performance clutch? or just a plain reman clutch? I was able to find a clutch kit for my '84 for $120 from AutoZone. -Brian
  8. None of the cars ive had with rear disc brakes have ever had a braking problem. its possible to hold the brake and drag your rear tires with the car in FWD, but on ice and snow... anyone who brakes hard will loose control, regardless of how well their brakes work. If EA82T's have some sort of valve, or special master cyl, then prove me wrong... but as far as I know, there are absolutly no differences between a stock EA81, EA82 and EA82T brakes other than the drum's and disc's.... everything else is straight bolt-on. -Brian
  9. Ive done it on 3 of my 4WD Subaru's. All of them were EA81 body styles. It is a direct bolt on. There is nothing special that needs to be modified or removed. I also say tell your friend to stick with Chevy's. Oh yeah... here's a page I put together the 1st time I did the swap: http://www.subaru4wd.net/New/mods/reardisk.html Pretty cut and chase. -Brian
  10. A welded diff made me unstoppable when I had it. As soon as I broke it, I was vulnerable again and had to remember how to off-road I feel with a welded diff you dont have to pick a line... just point the car and shoot. With an open rear end its completly different. Havent used a LSD yet, so i cant compare against Weld vs. LSD. -Brian
  11. No matter what it is, $2k for a '99 Impreza Outback is a steal! Does the one your getting have the scoops and everything? I wasnt aware there was an Impreza Outback available w/out the scoop? Are you sure this isnt just a standard Impreza L Wagon? -Brian
  12. What does the '81 have to clear the steering? Im sure Subaru didnt let it rub when they rolled them out of the factory. If we're able to find a Junkyard car, we'd be set. Steve, I need your #, PM me from here when you read this if you can. Its almost pointless to goto the Rancho yard, we already know it wont be there. I'd like to take a trip to Sparks NV, and Carson City NV. If there are any other yards anywhere in between we should prolly look. NV is a great source for older Subaru parts. -Brian
  13. If it was a '87 Coupe, it didnt have an EA81 The '81 GL Brat isnt really that rare. Of course, it will be hard to find one, but they are out there and end up in the yards more often than you might think. Reno, Carson City and anywhere other than Sacramento will be our best bet Or we can just keep looking for anyone parting out a 81 Brat. Any EA81 should bolt to the x-member, but the bellhousing is our main concern. -Brian
  14. I have dibs on a EA81T Parts car, and thought about stuffing it into the 78. But this is a budget that Kostamojen has to come up with, so right now we're trying to keep things as simple and cost effective as possible. I think im going to search for an 81 Brat, and try to get the entire front cut -Brian
  15. Thanks a ton to Kostamojen, i hope i spelled that right. Anyhow, he dropped off the AWIC today and pump and oil cooler (the radiator i might end up using). The oil cooler is like 1/2 the size of the stock radiator, but the AWIC is perfect! Are there any other board members that are running a setup like this? From what I understand, it came from a JDM Legacy EJ22T, and was mated to the TD05 turbo as well. I plan on using the stock VF11, but am unsure where to get the pipe i'll need. The section that leads to the intake manifold looks pretty straight forward. Soon I'll have pix. I need to get some hose and a resevoir, and locate a place to mount the radiator(s) and the pump. -Brian
  16. What bellhousing does the 81 Brat use? What if we could just get the bell housing from the same 81 brat we get the cross member from. Dave. If you get some time, could you take a peek at the Carson City yard? I know there were a few Gen1 cars in there last time i was there, but not sure if any were 81 Brats. If we could find a '81 Brat Steve, i think we'd be set. -Brian
  17. What all needs to be modified? I would assume the engine and tranny mounts would need to be worked on. Im thinking of taking a EA81 and 4spd from a donor car. -Brian
  18. Can I adjust the ignition timing? If so, what is stock and what controls the timing? Also, I need new plugs. i have a Diamond Coilpack and 7.5mm Magnacore wires. Does anyone know the stock gap and what the highest i can go would be? Not the largest gap. but safest for best spark? Also, if anyone knows what the compression of the cyl's should be, that'd be sweet. I'd like to give the car a tune-up before I add the I/C. Thanks Guys -Brian
  19. Bring them over sunday and we'll test fit them to the 78. -Brian
  20. Thats sweet Matt. After I got back from Oregon with the Broken Wagon, i set off to find another daily driver. I picked up a 1992 Legacy Sedan, AWD, 5spd, Turbo. Its a very fast car in comparison. Should be able to get me to Reno in an hour and a half, if not sooner -Brian
  21. SWEEEEEEEET!!! Now i just need 2 Front CV's, 2 Ball Joints, and 1 rear CV. Could also use new Bearings, but i can probably squeeze another trip out of these bearings. -Brian
  22. I know, i saw the pix. You need to hurry and get your subaru lifted so you can hang with me! -Brian
  23. Naw, this northern Nevada group likes the rocks and dirt. Jeremy, you wont be saying that next time you get stuck and need me to pull you out!!!! HAHAHAHA Well... as soon as my car gets fixed, we're on. Now that Matt's got a tru 4WD we can start planning some camping trips. Are you down to tackle the summer heat Dave? We can have it close to your house to keep the driving to a minimum -Brian
  24. New Wagon??? Let me know if you need any help. What does it need? I got a new Subaru that will get me to reno ALOT faster than the wagon does -Brian
  25. As its been told, you were instructed to leave the car at the farmers? Unless im mistaken. -Brian
