Riddle me this
I paid $370 for the 4 tires, including mounting, ballancing and new metal valve stems. You wont find many more tires in 14" rim size that have a better tread pattern than that. I believe there maybe some SuperSwampers available in 14" rimsize, but im not 100% sure on it. -Brian

Riddle me this
I got 205/75R14's from a local tire shop. You can see everything at www.subaru4wd.net Follow the links to the tires to see my combo. I lost some gearing, but not alot. Its the poor EA81 that cant keep up. The tires dont give too much road noise, but alot more than your average car. Ive taken my Wagon on 2 round trips out of state. Seattle and back, then Medford oregon and back. Plan on more as well. The tires, lift and car have put up with everything ive put it through, and even had to hobble home a few times as well. -Brian

Riddle me this
I ended up pulling ALL the A/C crap from my EA81 when I did my lift. I tried to fab up some lift blocks for the A/C, then when that failed, i tried to beat the snot out of the fender where the A/C was mounted... when that failed, i just removed all the A/C crap Thats with the 3/3, with the 4/3 you might as well skip step's 1 & 2 and just remove the A/C. Besides, with T-Top's, you dont need A/C -Brian

Riddle me this
Alloys are not the greatest for off-roading, but are useable. I went with Pugeots on my rig to keep the ease of 4x100 and spare sets of tires (important). I also have a full size spare in 26" to match my tires. The tires I got were Cooper Discoverer 26x8" on 14" pug alloys. The tires you choose will play a very important role here. You will find alot more tires available for the 15" rims, but you will have to go with alloy as opposed to Steel. With a 4" pk lift you'll be fine no matter which you choose. With a 3" lift, it'd be better to go with 14" rims and the steels you have work work perfectly. Let me know when you get this thing built, i need another local to go wheeling with -Brian

Yard Run!! Reno Then Carson City!! (5/15/04)
Saw that on the news here too. This weekend is crackdown on 50 all through to tahoe. I preffer 80, i cannot stand 50. Its not the Tahoe roads (EXTREMELY beautiful, and love the windy pass through kyburz), but its the tourists i hate. I have to be extremly careful now more than ever. I have an outstanding speeding ticket, and cannot afford to get another. THat will be taken care of by this weekend though. I dont want to skip Sparks. I know they'll be rolling out some fresh meat for 1/2 price weekend, but I also know that Carson is HUGE! and we'll probably have close to 20 or 30 Subarus to sort through. What time does PnP open? Anyone know? -Brian

Yard Run!! Reno Then Carson City!! (5/15/04)
Im going to be really pressed for time. Its a 2hr drive just to Reno, in the legacy i can prolly cut it to 90minutes. After that, its another 40minutes to Carson. I'm going to need to pull 3 CV's, 2 front and 1 rear. Along with some other parts and help steve. I doubt i'll be in Reno any earlier than 11am, we're planning on noon right now. That puts us in Carson at 3:45, way over the scheduled time. Lunch is do-able but I've got a set amount of priority's that have to be taken care of. I doubt Sparks will have all the parts we need... and I know Carson has always been good to me (Sparks is iffy at sometimes). More info as it comes in. At this time, lets all plan to meet at Sparks PnP at 12noon. If anyone can do a prelim run to get a basic inventory that would help out greatly. Steve will need Gen1 parts, I'll need EA81 Axles. -Brian

Yard Run!! Reno Then Carson City!! (5/15/04)
With that being said Jeremy, i might just skip the Sparks yard all together. I dont have time to deal with a huge crowd, long lines, and anoying people all day I have to make it back to Sac by 6pm. The best way to keep the wheels from spinning is to shove something into the spokes on the rims, rotate it until it catches, then break the lugs loose -Brian

Yard Run!! Reno Then Carson City!! (5/15/04)

Frankinintake!!
If you put it behind the engine, it would make the intake alot closer to the firewall. Then you can add some stacks to it and stick them through the hood. Should loo nice further back than stock Do you already have carbs for it? and how hard would it be to make another? -Brian

Yard Run!! Reno Then Carson City!! (5/15/04)
Gotta make a yard run. Me and Kostamojen are in search of Gen1 Parts. So far, the plan is pretty simple. Meet at the Pick N Pull in Sparks, NV. We hope to be there by Noon Saturday afternoon. After spending a couple hours, if we cant find what we need there we'll head off to Carson City to the Pick N Pull there. Who's in?? -Brian

Goto www.DiVX.com and get their codec. Goto their Download page and make sure you find the file that is JUST THE CODEC! do not get their ad-supported software, there is a link there with just the codec and no GAIN. I havent seen the video yet, will see it when i get home -Brian

Wheel Types
Carson should have all the GEn1 parts we need. Matt, thats a better plan. I usually cruise at 80-85, and at that speed reno becomes a blurrrrrrrr. Lets say Sparks at noon, 5/15/04. more details later in the Meet & Greet section. -Brian

Its a miracle! (degreaser)

We'll fight for the Gen1 Parts!! We're planning on being in Sparks early morning and then hopefully in Carson City no later than 2pm. That should give us enough time to get what we need and still make it back home before dinner Hope everyone that plans to join can keep up with a EJ22T -Brian

Wheel Types
Doesnt matter what Junkyard Dave goes too... he ALWAYS gets the hookup! Every yard ive been to with him, ive seen him get SMOKIN deals! Like a Full size brushguard for $30, the A-Type Pushbar for $17. $5 cargo covers, $10 wheels.... Dave, we should goto the yard together more often again Speaking of... im planning on being at the PnP in Sparks and then in Carson City on Saturday the 15th. Seems like more members are popping up, maybe its time we all get-together. -Brian

About to start my disc conversion: help
In the Subaru world... modifications are just that, modifications. Most are not educated, but frankenstien'd. Nobody knew 5lug would work on a RX until Corky did it the 1st time. Nobody knew a 5spd would fit behind a EA81 until Ken did it (unless he wasnt the 1st??) nobody knew rear disc's would bolt onto a EA81 until Pat pulled it off. I'm not saying research is pointless, or useless... but you'll often find that the best way to modify your Subaru is through Trial & Error. But, im glad to know im not jepordising anyones life by advertising the ease of the rear disc conversion. -Brian

clutch install advice and motor mount Q?
I think GD was talking about making custom Poly mounts for us EA81 guys. Not sure what ever happend with that. When are you doing the clutch? If you need a hand, let me know and give me a time-frame. I have weekends off now, but this weekend is booked and same as next saturday. Sunday the 16th im free tho. ive done 2 EA81 clutches, and both are cake! Are you going with a performance clutch? or just a plain reman clutch? I was able to find a clutch kit for my '84 for $120 from AutoZone. -Brian

About to start my disc conversion: help
None of the cars ive had with rear disc brakes have ever had a braking problem. its possible to hold the brake and drag your rear tires with the car in FWD, but on ice and snow... anyone who brakes hard will loose control, regardless of how well their brakes work. If EA82T's have some sort of valve, or special master cyl, then prove me wrong... but as far as I know, there are absolutly no differences between a stock EA81, EA82 and EA82T brakes other than the drum's and disc's.... everything else is straight bolt-on. -Brian
