WCSS6 CARAVAN? LA to Hood River

Yup, my #'s still the same. I'll have a CB Radio with me, and I encourage others to bring one along. I bought mine for $30 at walmart, and got my antenna (with magnetic base and wire) for like $10. It's ALOT easier than a cellphone and alot more fun. -Brian -
Pressurized cans of carb cleaner ususally works best. I have a parts bin that i'll spray over, and it will collect alot of cleaner after a while. You can then use that cleaner and an old toothbrush to scrub stuff clean. The presure of the can is good for blowing dirt out of jets and small passages. If you get a rebuild kit for that carb, you will get alot of those small o-rings and brass pieces. Should also come with all the gaskets for the carb too. -Brian

I'll most likely be in the Legacy. The only way the Wagons going is if I can find a carcass and rebuild the wagon. But right now, im focusing alot on the Legacy, and it looks like it'll be the main mode of transportation at that time. -Brian -

Regular Unleaded is between $2.07-$2.30 depending on if its AM/PM or Cheveron, etc... In a month, it could be +/- $0.50 easily. It'd probably be best to stay in Sac thursday night and then we all could drive to K.Falls/Bend on Friday. If we drove to K.Falls on thursday night and stayed there, we'd have to kill alot of time before the NV crew caught up with us. This way, everyone should be ariving on schedule. Andrew, look on page 2, i have a few maps i came up with. It describes the routes we're all thinking of taking. -Brian -

Did you see the maps Andrew? -Brian -
Yeah, these engines are super simple to work on. You'll never have to worry about a timing belt You can find the gasket kits alot cheaper off of ebay, and you will use alot of it. It'd be a good idea to replace the carb gaskets, and the intake manifold gaskets. If your oil pump is leaking, you'll have everything to fix that, along with the water pump, oil pan, valve covers etc... There's always gasket paper and an exacto Sometimes thats the only way. -Brian

Just looked at the map again and noticed it'll be a 2 day trip for both groups. Hrm... changes plans alittle. s'ko... when do you think you'd be aproaching the sacramento area? And Mike... you need to get online and msg me If you guys can make it to Sacramento by thursday night, you guys can get a good nights sleep in Sac. and then we all could leave sac Friday morning. If the NV Group leaves around the same time we do, we should both be in Klammath Falls late afternoon Friday and be able to meet up. From there we could finish the day of driving and end in Bend. Oregon where we could sleep. Then bright and early Saturday, catch up with any crowd that might be at Bend, and head to the show. If we leave bend at 7am, we should roll into the show at aprox 10am... just in time -Brian -

Forgot there was a fire there... we'll need to start a new thread for that one. Your right about the travel and a bed and shower for the trip. Do you think it'll be a 2 day drive for you guys in NV?? -Brian -
welcome back. Havent missed anything new. I've been switched into WCSS mode in order to prepare for the trip. Are you planning on making it Tony? Would be great for the whole family -Brian

the leak is most likely from the oil pump, they're notorious for leaking there. You should look into getting a complete engine gasket kit. They run for around $100 and will have all the gaskets you need, including a rebuild kit for the oil pump (just 3 or 4 rubber o-rings). That'd seal the engine up nicely and keep it from leaking again. Did you tear into the carb? I wouldnt suggest it unless you have a rebuild kit for that carburator (or a replacement carb) Since its off the car it'd be a good time to spray it down good with some carb cleaner. Try not to tip the carburator upside down, its a rule of thumb with any carb. -Brian

Steve, clean with carb cleaner. Let the car idle, then spray GOBS of carb cleaner into the carb and let it choak out and die. Then start the car and do it again. Then step 2: Same as step one, but dont let it die. Spray carb cleaner in the carb, and when it starts to studder out like its about to die, then cover the carb with something (like a piece of cardboard or a rag) to block all the airflow.. then it will chug chug, and die. But try to keep it running. Pull the cardboard or rag off the carb and let it come back to life. Do this a few times, and it'll clean all the crap outa your carb. Its a cheap, quick and very effective way of cleaning crap out of your jets. -Brian

LOL, im sure there's a Motel8 or something in Klammath Falls. If you guys leave NV at like 7am, that should give us enough time to sleep in and meet up in Klammath Falls by Noon. That way you wont need to worry about sleeping Dave. At Hood River, are you planning on sleeping in a Motel, or are we gonna do it WCSS3 style under the stars -Brian -

Maybe Russ.. but lets try to keep this on topic. Ken, the LC.o board has been down for a week or so. Plus, doesnt seem like they're too interested. As soon as its back up i'll be sure to solicit there for interested parties. I just wanna get all the ducks lined up in a row. Im thinking of leaving Sacramento Thursday night and driving to Klammath Falls, staying there for the night and meeting the NV Crew in Klammath falls and then heading north to Bend, then to Hood River. If that is the case, I'd need to know who's interested in joining us. From Redding, Weed, Sacramento, San Fran, San Jose etc... etc... etc... -Brian

We've got a thread in the meet & Greet forum discussing the caravan that will be leaving california and heading to Hood River for the West Coast Subaru Show. I know there are more than 2 californian's going. It'd be nice to have a list of people who plan on driving up, and some more input on the plans we have so far. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18351 Thats what we have so far, who else is going? -Brian

No walkie Talkies, but I have a CB I plan on taking along. Not sure what time i'll be leaving. Was thinking of leaving Thursday night, sleeping in Klamath Falls overnight, and that way we can meet with the NV Crowd bright and early Friday morning. -Brian -
what do you use to remove decal glue residue?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive used oven cleaner with great results. Wouldnt trust it on a painted surface, but for windows it worked great. I had to use windex to remove the film it left behind, but oh well... no more West Coast Choppers sticker -Brian -

Ok, im pretty sure i can get away with doing this. Use vacation days (last 2) on Friday and Monday, and have Saturday and Sunday as my regular weekend. That'd give me from Thursday night until Monday afternoon to play If we plan on meeting on hwy97, then we have to collaborate our times. I believe we could make it to the 97/395 split before you guys, given we'll be on I-5. But its still a good 4 to 5 hours to weed, then another hour or so to the Klammath Falls meet. How many other people are comming from the bay area and southern california? -Brian
