  1. S'Ko, im planning on taking I5 to Weed, and I heard there's a highway that intersects in Weed that heads east toward Oregon and 395. If we were to do that, its possible we'd be able to catch up to the Nevada group. Im planning on leaving Friday morning or Friday night. Depends on how the work schedule goes. If I get Friday off, I might be leaving Thursday night, or Friday morning. I still have to pull up some maps and do some more planning. -Brian
  2. Most of the stuff you saw on the newer 71's can be blocked off. The carb you have is identical, but its just as old and prone to the same damage as your carb you have now. -Brian
  3. I dont think that 1400 Manifold will work. You shoulda looked for a single barrel CW or another Hitachi off a newer model. Like a '86 Hatch. A 1400 carb is probably going to have the same problem. Thats probably the reason why that 1400 was in the junkyard. And if you go the weber route the car will never pass emissions. If I can find some time I'd love to stop by and take a look at it. Its odd how these problems developed, I never had any trouble when i had it. Message me if you see me online. -Brian
  4. Does anyone have pictures of their setup? Might be something i'd be interested in on my next rig. -Brian
  5. I wouldnt trust the stock oil pressure guage. Every EA81 Subaru ive had has never gave me correct Oil pressure readings. i end up replacing them with manual oil pressure gauges, which work ALOT better. A simple weber will solve that carb problem too -Brian
  6. Ozified Pro's: Easy to read instructions Every bolt is supplied. Geometry is untouched, without the need of adjusting anything (as far as camber etc...) Time tested and proven. Unlimited support from the USMB incase anything should go wrong Con's: Puts you in a seperate mindset, allowing you to beat the snot out of your Subaru. -Brian
  7. Any junkyard should be able to provide one. If you wanna get rid of that JDM emblem, lemme know. I'd like to add it to my collection. -Brian
  8. take the 39mm and cut a slot in it so it'll fit over the tube. Then use hose clamps to hold it on. Make sure it looks good, and it'll pass. The hot air tube is useless in california, but the smog nazi's need to see it there. -Brian
  9. I had trouble on the rear where the corrosion was bad. I ended up buying a tap to chase all the threads with. You'll find that most of the thread patterns are identical... so the tap I got worked with 99% of all the threaded inserts. -Brian
  10. Yeah, but that brat wasnt on the rubicon. Great photo's, glad to see the oldskool subies got good recognition. -Brian
  11. Got this in the mail. "Valued Customer, Here are the Sale dates for our upcoming Half Price Sale! Everything will be half off it's normal price at all participating locations. July 2-3 Half Off Sale in Carson City & Sparks Nevada< July 3,4,5 Half Off Sale at All U.S. Stores (excluding Nevada) July 10-11 Half Off at all Canada Stores note: Our San Antonio, TX location will not be participating." Kostamojen, you might wanna wait to goto the yard -Brian
  12. Gearing is whats needed for crawling. Our 80hp EA81's will crawl no problem, but the 4spd D/R has to be replaced. Which most have done recently. An engine like this would be better suited in a nice EA81 Coupe, or Hatch to race on some tarmac somewhere And yeah, a turbo would be super sweet on a setup like that. -Brian
  13. You can get a kit for around $100. It will come with the pressure plate, clutch disk, and bearings. Should also come with the centering tool wich is very important to have. Shop around, take the best price and then call Kragen/Schucks/Checkers (whichever you have in your hometown) and tell them the place with the cheapest price and the price you were quoted. They will beat it by 5% and you'll end up with the cheapest kit in town. It'll be 7 7/8" inch if the engine is from a 2WD car. When you go price the kit, ask for a '82 2WD Subaru Clutch kit, because in '83 they changed to the larger clutch for every EA81. If you ask for a '84 2WD kit, you'll still end up with a 8 7/8 disc. -Brian
  14. yeah, those are the best EA81's you can get. But they're built to make peak hp at high rev's, and hold those rev's at high altitude for a long time. Probably not the best for street use unless you like cruising at 6000rpm and dont like shifting. -Brian
  15. You need a readers ride section as well. With viewer submissions. -Brian
  16. Wires dont bother me one bit. you should see my living room!! 5 computers networked, 5.1 DTS surround setup, 3 TV's with cable... all wired, and every wire exposed. Just as long as you remember to lift your feet when you walk -Brian
  17. Steve. When i bought that set of wires it came with eight 90 degree bends and 8 straight bends. There should be four 90 degree bends left, but a couple might have gotten lost. I bought that set like 8 or 9 months ago, and the left overs have been sitting in the garage since. Saturday I'll be wrenching in my garage on the legacy. I gotta get the rear lateral bars in, drop links replaced, and then take it to Clarks Frame for its alignment. I'd love to stop by and take a look at the car, it sounds to me like a simple electronic problem. The carb was showing no signs of failure when i had it, other than the leaks that I fixed. Might be a good idea to locate a 1 piece EA71 intake with a Carter/Weber. Those carbs run about as clean as any carb made. Saturday evening I should have some time, hopefully before the poker game starts. -Brian
  18. You would just need to widen the bolt holes, you wouldnt have to modify the radiator. Would look bone stock if done correctly. I called around town and found Kragen had the cheapest EA81 Radiator in town. I was able to get them to beat Napa's Price and I believe I got it for $115 after tax etc... The cheapest online is like $90, so i figure saving 3 days instead of waiting for shipping was worth the extra $25. You always see nice radiators at pick-n-pull, but just makesure you dont pull the one some clown poked a hole in Also, the EA71 should give plenty of room for both Electric EA81 fans, allowing you to remove those rotted out fans you have there now. -Brian
  19. The wires I gave him were the leftover wires from a custom V8 set of 8mm Accell wires. Sorry Steve, I didnt realize you needed instructions, its pretty basic. But to make it easier on yourself, just goto autozone and get a set of wires. Also double check the connections on the coil. My '83 wouldnt run on anything but 2 cylinders when the coil died. And everytime you put it in gear it would studder and die. Got progressivly worse, until it wouldnt run. You can test the coil by removing the coil wire from your distributor cap and hold it a few inches from a solid ground. Have your father or someone crank the engine over and pay attention to the spark it creates. You should get a nice solid arc, not sure what color arc your looking for but you should be able to find more detailed instructions in that Haynes or online. It honestly sounds like very weak spark, or bad gas. Could also be the timing, i never did have a chance to set the timing. -Brian
  20. Here's a good replacement for your standard center console: You can find these in early '80 and '81 Hatchbacks. They might be available in other subaru's as well, but i havent seen many of them. If gotten a couple from the junkyard, here's another one that's setup alittle better: They fit a standard DIN size radio/CD player without any modification. the only problem is it sits at an angle and makes it hard to read most LCD screen's. Also, it seems most CD Players I install into consoles like this, stop working prematurely. Im not sure if its the angle at which is sits, or all the off-roading I do in my car's. But it sure is better than hacking apart the center console like i did with my lifted rig: -Brian
  21. Those plug wires really need to be replaced, and if you re-installed the coil backwards in my garage then you would have similar problems. I'd double check everything, and maybe try to get that coil to work. -Brian
  22. The PVC valve is brand new. I dont know why it wont reach 25mph or run, the thing was running great when i drove it over. You did add more fuel right??? cause it was resting on E. Did you put those new wires on? If so, make sure they're crimped tight. Sounds to me like the car isn't firing on all 4 cyl's. and if thats the case it'd run fine until you tried to reach a higher speed, at which point the spark would be too weak to fire. Lemme know if you cant get it figured out and i'll try to stop by to take a look at it. -Brian P.S. Find a heater hose that fits, or they'll fail you.
  23. Hey Tim, that car looks great! Is vicky going to let you modify it at all? When will we get to see it with a lift Should make trips to subaru shows a breeze. -Brian
  24. Steve, that car needs an oil change. There's a filter in the back, use some Castrol 20w50 in it with a quart of Marvels Mystery Oil. Is oil still making its way into the air filter box?? I think your going to need to get some hoses from the JY cause the original ones fell to pieces. The ones on there now i got from a EA81 at the yard, with a EA82T made to work. Maybe its time for another trip to Carson City?? -Brian
