Convert the Brat to Power Windows??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If I had a place to put them, I would... but right now my garage is getting kinda full. So i'll just grab the door guts. I do want the door panels tho. Its white on grey, just like Mt. Grizzley has. -Brian -

Fun day at the junkyard :) LONG

No room in the garage, and not enough money in the bank. The engine was useless, and the tranny was just an auto. -Brian -
Convert the Brat to Power Windows??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So the power window glass is the same as the manual window glass? I think i could probably get the entire door for less than just the inners. -Brian -

Convert the Brat to Power Windows??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hrm. Is all that stuff neccessary? -Brian -
I wanna convert my brat to Power Windows. Today at the junkyard I found a 2door GL10 Coupe, '83, EA81. I know the doors match, so would I just take the window and the power window guts from the GL10 doors and put them in the Brat? Will it all bolt up? Also, can I just hot-wire the switches and forget about all the wiring and the harness? I dont plan on using the center console with the switches, i will just have one switch on the passenger side door, and 2 switches on the drivers side door (one for each door). Anybody have any idea's for me? Or suggestions? -Brian

Yup, you did it right Looks great. Since you have a hatch patrol album, you should create a nested album inside that main album, and put the photo's in there, that way you can add other pictures of trips, and have them organized. Also, if you .zip all the pictures up into 1 .zip file, you can upload just that .zip file, and the gallery will unzip them and add them to your album. Makes it easier if you have alot of pix to upload. Looks like you guys had fun. -Brian

If you upload them to the USMB gallery, they will be resized automaticly. Let me know if you want a login and an album. -Brian

Eyesore, do you have more pix of your Wagon? I'd love to see some. -Brian

New center console/switchboard :)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have 8 lights to wire, so thats what these switches are going to be used for. I will have one large MASTER switch that will go in that lonely hole in the bottom, and that will turn EVERY light on at the same time. -Brian -
Im very happy with my Coopers. Ive taken them on 2 road trips (from California to Seattle and back. Then from California to Oregon and back). I have about 8,000 total miles on them, and they still kick rump roast off-road. I have them on 14" alloys, and i chose the 26's to keep my gearing as low as possible and used the alloys to save on wieght. The car drives great. Very good tires for pavement and dirt (better for dirt of course) -Brian

I pulled a high rise center console from a 2dr GL10 Coupe today, and so far I've got the switches mounted, but i still need to paint the panel and prep the console alittle. Pix! I had to use my dremel to cut alittle away from the existing panel. There it is with 3 out of 4 switches. I need 4 total switches, but so far I only have 3. There's the complete center console. I'll probably leave it grey, but the switchboard will be gloss black. Still need to find a way to mount the switchboard since i removed the original switches. -Brian

Goto the Cooper Tires webpage. Search for dealers near you from their page, and call each one. Ask them if they have any Cooper Discoverer STT's, 205/75R14's. They are about 26" in diameter. They have pictures listed on their page. I found mine and paid $320 for 4 tires mounted and ballanced. and Im very pleased with them. -Brian

Fun day at the junkyard :) LONG
TheSubaruJunkie posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, being 1/2 price weekend I had to go Got the day off and got to the yard about 2:30pm. When I was parking, some guy that was leaving the junkyard, yelled toward me. I thought he was bitching cause i took his spot or something, but he asked if I wanted a free wheelbarrel. Of course i said yes, paid my $2 and walked in. I walked past the holding bay, and I didnt see any new cars, meaning all the sube's must have already been put out in the yard. And boy was I right. Found a few new EA81's like a '83 GL Coupe, Auto. 2Dr w/power windows (gotta get that fer my brat) and a complete set of 4 spoke alloys. A '82 GL Brat, light blue with blue interior. Was able to swipe the '82 style steering wheel for my brat, and I was shocked to find a blue one. The Brat had the 3rd eye and a long style A Bar, but it was smacked pretty good in the front end. Everything up front was destroyed. I couldnt even salvage the brackets that attatch to the front of the bar. Tailgate was straight, dirty but not rusted. I left it there tho (should have grabbed it, sorry Shawn). Also, the very last Subaru on the end of the row (waited all day to go down there) was a '92 Legacy Sedan. I didnt pay much attention to it, until I got close enough to see the spoiler on the trunk. As soon as I saw that, i had to go see if it had the scoop, and sure enough it had it all. Complete Legacy Turbo Sedan, Auto (sorry Corky). The reason i didnt pay much attention to it was because it had been rolled, and you couldnt reconize it was unless you shut the hood, which had been oppened as far as it could and wedged into the windshield. The car was complete tho, but rolled at least twice. There wasnt a usable part on it. Whoever wrecked it, looked like they had some fun. But it was definatly a sad sight to see. I needed some hoses and stuff for the '89 Touring Wagon in my garage, so I looked in all the EA82T's at the yard, and every one of them were missing the radiator hoses, but there was a EA82 that had new hoses on it, so I called Austin from my cell phone to ask if EA82 hoses were the same. And luckily Austin was at the PaP up there in Washington Got my hoses, and had a good laugh with Austin. So being 1/2 price day i grabbed what i needed. '82 Steering wheel, (2) EA81 alternators, the high rise center console out of the '83 Coupe, various hoses and some plugs. Then I went toward the truck section to look for more brats, and on the way i passed by a Peugeot 505 STi Turbo Sedan with a complete set of 15" Alloys (checked, and they arent 390's), and 2 cars down was a 405 or a 504 (cant remember how they have it) sedan that was riced out. It had a complete set of 14" steels on it. Had to leave them behind. All in all, it was a fun day at the Junk Yard -Brian -
Wierd Alternator Activity
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh yeah, most definatly. Expecially because the last alternator i fried, was fried due to me NOT disconnecting the battery before removing, and I had zapped myself a couple times. But this Alt has never been removed with the battery connected (cause the battery is also my comunity battery as well). -Brian -
Wierd Alternator Activity
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im going to the junkyard tomorrow, and i need to get 2 alternators anyhow, so i will slap one of them in the wagon and see if that solves my problem. This alt worked great on the brat, and ive been using it as my "community alternator" switching it back and forth from the Brat to the Wagon, depending on which car I wish to drive. -Brian -
Wierd Alternator Activity

Regulator seems to be working fine, once it has a chance to work. -Brian -
Lately ive noticed that on my wagon, when i start the car, my voltmeter will be resting at 8volts. The lights will dim, and the car runs rough and after a few seconds (usually like 30 or 45 seconds) the alternator will kick on, the voltmeter will jump to 14volts and everything will be fine, but if I rev the engine or drive with the engine between 3000-4500rpm, the voltmeter gets awfully close to red (close to 17volts) but only for a short while. If i turn on my heater fan, it will go back to 14volts, and then after a while I can turn off the accessories and the car will remain at 14volts. I thought maybe my belt was loose, but it seems like its too consistant to be a loose belt, always happens. Even if I run the engine for a while and let it get to 14volts, if I shut off the car and restart it it happens again. Maybe a bad battery? -Brian

The USRM will have this information soon. I was in the process of building a FAQ and pre-search page (do a search for information, link that search page, and put the link on a webpage for easy access) and link it to the message board, but my admin rights were pulled before it was completed. The search engine should be easier to find. Hell, i dont even know where to find it 1/2 the time. Its not hard to do, just time consuming, and most of the people with the power have too much to do as it is. -Brian

Anyone Running 13" Kuhmo ECSTA R700s?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Call TireRack, the guys there are very nice. -Brian -
The FAQ is a good idea, problem... who's going to write it? Here's mick's wheel page: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wheels.html If you want to have wheels made, our bolt pattern is 4x140mm. Your best bet is Peugeot rims, and lucky for us, Peugeot's are plentiful in California. Keep an eye in the JunkYard. -Brian

For a rally grade tire, i think thats fairly cheap. Ive had my eyes on those tires for a long time, looks like the best off-road traction for any 13" rim. -Brian
