  1. you bought a subaru remanufactured? exactly what did you get and how much was it?
  2. after all that arguing about if an engine should leak oil, I hate to bring it up again...but.....I was doing my annual engine washdown today.. my 96 OB with a CCR rebuilt block with 4k on it,,,,NO oil leaks moms 2006 forester...34k...NO oil leaks (I hate the shape of that new Y pipe BTW-blocks what used to be a nice view) my nieces 03 impreza 112k (cam/crank seals done at 103k).....NO oil leaks the man should NOT have any leaks on an engine that new..... his engine story is starting to scare me
  3. thanks GG...my problem is that in lower NY you cannot get the car to pass inspection with the cel light on...
  4. I never thought I would ever do it...but I own my neices 96 legacy which has a 2.2 with 165k. I have a chance to buy a 98 OB wagon with a 2.5 100K nice cond. with head gasket and other issues (not sure what those other engine issues are yet). Will this motor fit? both are automatics thanks (and yes this 96 has a 2.2 original)
  5. a question for anyone versed on using craigslist is there any way to search the complete state rather than having to choose a region at a time?
  6. from the side it kinda looks like a maxima...it's not bad looking alas...I've been driving subies since 11/79 and they seem to have ALWAYS been behind with inovative looking body styles
  7. XT....thank you very much Maybe you can answer my other post from this morning....about how long you have to use up 10 car fax reports should you buy the package...is it 30 days? I hate seeing so many owners for a car I am interested in buying.....so this guy on ebay bought the car at the auction....price seems reasonable...8500 for a 2004 impreza rs auto...60K...very clean looking. of course I don't want to pay over 7500...lol
  8. just womdering if anyone has some unused and car run this subie?? thanks JF1GD67524H510340
  9. pay more...get less...a recurring theme these days Thanks John ...good idea about asking others if they have some unused reports to obtain,,,! Hey you may be near this car...are you near Virginia beach??? you can PM me if so...
  10. anyone ever bought a car on ebay...am thinking about a 2004 impreza non WRX (seem hard to find)that is an 8 hour drive away...these things always make me leery. Carfax...I see it is $30 for one report and 35$ for 10 reports....seems like a no brainer but what time limit do you have on using all 10? thanks
  11. where can you buy that redline diff fluid does anyone think it is that much better than say walmarts synthetic ?
  12. when you get them off...let me know how...such a piece of crap design 375.00 for plugs and wires....maybe 60.00 in parts!!! ther is SOME money to be made in the car repair business ehh? almost as bad a hosing as what politicians do....
  13. My first time doing HG was about a year ago...car was in nice shape (96 OB wagon)...130K...but clean Seemed to run fine but got hot fairly soon after driving a few miles Did the gasket job...head/valve job ...replaced everything (pulleys/TB/WP/wires etc) After all said an done...it had a lower end noise/knock...aarrgghh! Bought a rebuilt block from CCR All is well...but put more into it that planned....
  14. hey guys my niece bought some halogen bulbs on ebay for for $10 for her 03 impreza. I went to put them in for her and they do not fit...but they DO fit my 96 OB. I installed them today-they are the blue colored bulbs I looked at the wattage of the stock ones and they are 60/55W H4 The new ones are 100/90W H4 Are they safe to use?? That's a big difference There was a tiny packet of grease and some cheesy translated instructions (Japanese/Korean?) saying it was imperative to apply the grease to the prong/female connectors Is this silicone grease? Just wondering if I should put more on thanks (have not had a chance to go out at night with them but I am sure they wil be an improvement)
  15. If they have an a/c hose in stock I would be shocked....that is, if they are anything like my local stealership
  16. are you saying ccr could not do the job? I bought a 2.5 rebuilt block from them...got 3k on it and it is running like a charm...found them very helpful
  17. I agree...they are tiny....doesn't instill me with confidence...we know that bigger is not always better...but you would think in this case it would be
  18. are you hearing any gurgling when the water circulates thru the heater core in the engine compartment? this would be a sure sign of air in the system
  19. PWT It just the way the engine has been deisign...if one valve is open, another is closed at any given time....pass side under no tension--driver side is under tendion. I usually line up the belt at the crankshaft first...goe to top pass side cam gear...then to top driver cam gear...then to bottom driver cam gear....then bottom pass side cam gear....finally, I install the pulley on pass side at bottom of belt ....seems to work but it is awkward
  20. What kind of price? after 2004 you are safe as for head gasket issues
  21. bought my first new car ever in the fall or 1979 (1980 4 dr DL 1.6 5 spd---talk about gutless...lol). Got in an accident and negotiated with insurance company to keep the car (had 100,000 miles but changed the oil every 2500). I wanted to do something with the motor. Eventually found a car needing a motor...bought a chiltons manual...and figured out what to do. After that, I started looking for sub's with problems and started making a few extra bucks Been driving ever since At one time, I had 5 or 6 parts cars on the property--you can imagine what the wifey thought of that! Great cars...reliable (altho more so pre 1995)....4WD awesome Downside...engines are not quiet...exhaust sys too expensive....power was lacking (in past)...and I always felt they were behind the pack when it comes to stylish body designs But hey, I'm a guy....a car is just depreciation on 4 wheels...I prefer relability and being easy to work on than those other things
  22. I doubt it but can the angle of the rear windsheild washer spray (OD wagon) be adjusted upward? it shoots too low for my liking....
  23. I've had very good experience with them on several ocassions....Ken and John were always very helpful. Hopefully it was just a fluke. Last time I was waiting for my order and the head gaskets were not in stock...I really needed them for the upcoming weekend when I was going to work on my car...they were willing to split the UPS Red shipping costs with me. So I have been very pleased
  24. a few related questions to this thread... 1--I read about those putting in amsol synthethic in their tranny. Now if you have just regular (non synthetic) in your tranny and you drain out only 1/2 the amount (thru drain plug)....and replace with synthetic...well, that does not sound like the best move, no? It's like having 2.5 quarts of synthetic oil and 2.5 quarts regular oil in your engine... 2--on my 96 OB automatic wagon...are there any external/internal filters? or an internal screen needing cleaning?
